It's a bell system, you are suposed to press on the can until all the water in the bell is replaced by CO2 and in theory the gas slowly moves into the water at the contact point. In practice only 20% or so actually gets into the water and everyday before you press on the can you have to let the trapped CO2 out, basically wasting it. Tropica and ISTA also make stuff like this. And TBH it's crap. Same with the CO2 tablets and with the yeast and sugar disposable cans. The disposable liquid CO2 metal ones do function well but it's not worth the price. From my experience the only ones that function well and worth the price are those CO2 generators that use citric acid and baking soda. You can find them in Europe and North America under various brands, but don't fall for that. If you look close you'll see that all look the same, and that's because they are all made in China by the same company ZRDR and the resellers just slap their name over it. So you can get them from Aliexpress at, sometimes, half the price. And are very well made. But those only work for tanks up to 30 gallons (115L). Above that you have to use what is the best and most expensive: refillable CO2.

I just started with water wysteria to avoid CO2 entirely. I'm letting it float. Red root floaters also do extremely well. in my tanks.
My focus is removing nitrates, not so much the aquascaping. For me, it's all about the fish.
Nice job with the vid, and thanks for sharing this with us.

Yeah I'm not a massive fan of aquascaping. I like planted aquariums and using plants but I prefer trying to replicate the elements found in natural habitats with them as you said its all about the fish!
Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate it 👍🏻

I have the same system, but you can also fill empty Gatorade bottles inverted upside down (place a rock inside the mouth of bottle to weight it down). Yeah, this is an old school "passive" CO2 system and you are not going to see bubbles from the diffuser. It does work, but it releases a minimal amount of CO2 in the water by pressure and surface contact with the water. I agree that the suction cups are horrible, so I use EHEIM suction cups and find that they are a lot better. If you want to see bubbles you need to get a pressurized system with a ceramic diffuser. :)

Ive had mine a few month now 1 to 2 full srays right to the bottom of the diffuser. Plants are doing well but now the diffuser has gave up the goose taking forever to diffuse 🤦

jesus my dude you need a quieter air pump, or maybe build something around it or put it in a cupboard like damn its almost as loud or louder then you in the video.

Believe it or not its sitting on a sponge too! Proper industrial air compressor pump. Normally I turn it off to film but forgot this time round haha.
