How I Live in LA Without A Car: Electric Scooters! (FF Lite 2024 Review)

  • I am what one would call an "urbanist," meaning I enjoy living in dense, walkable, bikable cities with lots of public transport. I think the North American lifestyle of "every single human owns a car and get around solely in their car" is inefficient, unhealthy, and damaging to the planet.
So whenever I'm in LA, I get around solely via scooters and bikes. The Solar FF Lite is one of the best one yet. It packs dual 1600W motors, 10-inch tires, with max speed of 45MPH and 45 mile range. with a large LED screen showing stats and info.

Great review! Wondering why you opted for off-road tires when Solar offers road tires? Hope to see follow up review of your FF Lite in the future. Glad I found your channel.

I've been really tempted to buy this scooter but the fact they don't have a locking mechanism in the stem where you can carry it with one arm is like a deal breaker for me.

Makes me wonder if this scooter actually makes sense in HK or Bangkok. HK traffic is very fast and walkways are tight and packed with people while Bangkok walkways are broken and cars drive really near each other!

Hey bro it's awesome seeing you on a scooter. And not doing the phones. I've been into the scooters for a long time now 🙌🏽Yes I have vsett 8 and I'm getting full battery 27 mph and it's just right for me when batteries low 22 24 mph but you are so right I just keep slow when you have the speed there's no need to show off but it helps with the cars on the road maneuvering out of danger. Like your scooter. But can you pick it you like normal?

How good is the regenerative braking? Does it help you slow down considerably?

By chance do you know what that white rubber button on the neck of the scooter is for?

If the top handle bar could rotate or pivot parallel to the board that will make it even narrower.

Wouldn't that also create more joints to rattle and points of failure? Don't get me wrong, I live in a NYC apartment so I would love to see a working implementation of the folding handlebar, however the one's I've seen (with my Mercane Wide Wheel Pro) and from YT reviews of the Solar EQ, Dultron, etc... these types of handlebars leave much to be desired especially when the device is capable of 40mph + speeds.

Ben, this definitely appeals to me, but I like bowling and have my own bowling bag that carries 4 bowling balls. Do you know of anything that would be able to transport such a load outside of a car?

    • @bensgadgetreviews
      @bensgadgetreviews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Four bowling balls would be difficult on a scooter lol. I'd say one or two balls max

Ben, you're not new to LA or someone I'd call uninformed. I'm sure you're well aware that most of us living in LA are not digital nomads like yourself snd a car is essential to getting around. Many here are going upwards of over 30 miles one way to work and if you've seen how terrible public transit is here in LA you'd know using it to get to and from work is out of the question for majority of people.
I'm glad you have the luxury of being able to use a electric scooter to get by but sadly a lot of us don't and as much as the leaders in LA try to turn public transit into something you'd find in Frisco or NYC, it will never happen. LA is way too big ans spread out for that to ever work.

When have I ever said people in LA ***should*** use a scooter instead of driving? I just said I *DONT LIKE* the car reliant life and choose not to live it, and I said *for some* it can be a car replacement. But yes, LA (and most US cities) being so sprawling and unwalkable is why I leave and go to Asia so often because I rather just walk around a lively city

If you drive 30+ miles to work in LA, you're not from around here. In LA, people choose their living space based on the distance from the workplace.

Weighs more than my folding ebike that has a seat, a rack for carrying things, and costs half as much. Peace

True, I have a Lectric XP 3.0 and it weighs about the same as this scooter, however I'm hoping this scooter is less cumbersome to carry than the Lectric. I guess I'll find out when mine arrives in a couple of days.

How can a scooter have an IP dust and water rating? It's a damn scooter that you presumably use outside! 😂

Far from the best electric scooter. Cool to see you review one tho. Personally the best imo would be the roadster, inmotiin rs, wolf gtr and upcoming Roadrunner RX7
