  • Places where history has been made. This records a visit to some fascinating collections and sites from which the Secret War was waged. These included the Museum of Military Intelligence at Chicksands, Bletchley Park the WW2 Code Breaking Centre, RAF Tempsford the Secret airfield which supported Special Operations Executive operations during the Second World War. We visited the Shuttleworth Collection of vintage aircraft to view the Westland Lysander aircraft which flew behind enemy lines on nights when the moon was full to ferry agents and equipment. The tour also included Harrington Airfield where the US Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the Wartime Intelligence Service operated its Carpetbagger missions. We also passed the massive hangers at Cardington where two ill fated airships were built one of which, the R101, crashed in 1930 on its maiden overseas voyage, killing 48 of the 54 people on board. The trip was run by Travel Editions www.traveleditions.co.uk/
