I appreciate the DJ art form. As a DJ, I realized there are different methods and all DJ’s have their own style respectfully. Fat shoutout to all the DJ’s worldwide, keep doing ya thing and don’t let nobody stop you 🫡💪🏽💯💯💯

All of us are prone to mistakes, but after at least a decade on the decks the control should be crispy. The CRSS12s are tight control/like a controller, and the S11 is a monster. After decades in the game I just hope to sound much more polished for simple juggles.

Flex never said he was a turntablist.

By today’s standards all the old school early DJs have pretty basic skills because it’s the style they invented. Jazzy Jeff is one of the extremely rare exceptions who continued to change and adapt as styles progressed.

This a classic Hip Hop Break Beat Playlist for sure. I'm not sure if they were feeling it.

This reminds of watching the Disco performaces in the 70's where the crowd would sit there like zombies watching the performers shake their groove thang!

Though parts of this set were quite repetitive The thing I luv about flex is his originality. The simplicity. The way he incorporates simple techniques, stabs, baby scratches and the signature spin back. Anyone who knows flex will know it's him just by listening to the first transition unless he starts yelling on the mic😆

Not all radio DJs are turntablists and vice-versa. As someone who literally grew up listening to Hot97 and witnessed Flex be the first Hip Hop DJ there I can say that this doesn't surprise me because I've seen it before. DJ Evil Dee and DJ Mister Cee (RIP) would never...

CRSS12 aside, I hadn't realized Flex is going by Funk Flex and not Funk Master Flex. When did that happen?

This is a perfect example how a DJ can overdo backspins, drag them out far too long, not be on point mess up all transitions and on top of it distort the mixer, even after the tech guy helped him out...Jazzy Jay left quick...🤣🤣🤣

In my opinion. There is nothing wrong with change. Flex did his thing. I love hearing the artistry behind the art. Flex clearly was all hip-hop killing….. But this era of hip-hop is way different then we came upon. I'm sure the crowd had an idea but wasn't in music era of hip-hop!!!!! And besides I could be wrong. But haven't seen too many DJs doing this anymore!!!!! Again just my opinion!!!!! Great job DJ Flex

If you look on the PLX-CRSS12, he does not have the needle on the timecode vinyl. Through his whole set, he is using the built in DVS from the PLX-CRSS12 which is a key feature of the CRSS12.

He was extremely clean with his backspins. What really intrigues me is that he seems to have mastered a technique of backspinning by monitoring the headphones. You'll notice that after flipping the fader, his hand moves to the headphone cue, and he flips that as well to monitor the backspinning.
I learned the hard way by using the stickers on the record, and on DVS, you have to ensure that both stickers are cued at, e.g., 12 o'clock before you touch the cue point button for accuracy to work in your favor.
The only advantage I have is that I will not build a reliance on headphones, especially since I've mastered the number of rotations I need to go back depending on the number of beats. But that does not seem to bother Flex; he has managed to work with this technique and can be fast while retaining a high level of accuracy.

Jazzy Jay would cut those breaks so much smoother and with a lot more class like Dimples D once said about Marley Marl...He Cut The Music With So Much Class !!

Yooo...I remember on the radio growing up...that "Dance to the drummers beat" with FMF and some real vinyl, I grew up to that routine, young teenager...for real...way before controllers...he should have used the needles on the CRS 12s...I hear the difference

Does he even use any of the features of the mixer and the decks during this performance? The whole time he uses the laptop to load songs instead of the controls on the mixer and decks that he is supposed to be showcasing.
