RI is blessed to have Ted and Tim. They do a great job staying fair and balanced in spite of being in such an unbalanced State! 👏👏👏. With that being said my vote is for the woman who cares about RIers not the corrupt ideologue. Morgan 2024!
Patricia Morgan really exposes Sheldon Whitehouse in this debate. Every Rhode Island voter needs to see this. We need to quit mindlessly electing big government liberals into power over and over again. (On a side note: Impressed by the job Ted Nesi and Tim White do as moderators. They should be the moderators for national debates)
Whitehouse has been in the US Senate from Rhode Island since 2007 when he defeated lib Rep. incumbent Lincoln Chafee by 7 points. Since then, he's won reelection by 29-30 points in 2012 & 23 points in 2018. This election will (possibly) be his closest reelection bid in his electoral history for a few reasons: 1. This is an election year that's favorable to Rep. & Trump. 2. During the early 2000s, RI was a D + 25-30 state that voted for Obama by 27-29 points in 2008 & 2012. In 2016, Clinton won the state by 15-16 points & lost Kent County to Trump. Kent has historically voted for the Dem. candidate by likely margins since 1984. Kent would then flip back to Dem. by 7-8 points in 2020. The County went from a likely D County to a lean D territory in 2016. The main reason for this trend to the right was that Trump's trade policies resonated among the manufacturing sectors (Coventry's auto & railroad, West Greenwich's timber, etc.) & parts of the retail sectors (Warwick & West Warwick). 3. New England Latinos trending to the right, especially among the Puerto Rican population in Providence & its northeastern suburbs. I believe he will still win reelection in 2024. However, he may not win as much as he used to in 2012 & 2018. In 2006, the race was only close because he was facing an incumbent that's liberal on social issues. This will be a test if he can outperform Harris & Biden in a Rep. favorable year.
