Hey everyone - I forgot to mention this regarding the trem, but if you are lucky enough to find one with the original bar, you'll be even happier to find that it is a push in style one - Cheers!🎸
I came here today, Sept 2024 because ,my neighbor sale me one in around 100 us dls, i just back to home pluged in and sounds amazing, I just re-string it, set in tune, and i used the trem bar as maniac and it still in tune, it is an awesome guitar, if you see one in a good price go for it's a great choice
Very interesting and informative video! I walked into a Pawn shop a week or so ago and found a Yamaha RGX 312 for $30.00!! They were selling it for parts. I snagged it and took it home to test. The pots needed cleaning and I used some contact cleaner to get that done. It was also missing a knob and one of the bridge screws. I was able to replace all of them, put new strings on it, and had a tremelo bar for a Strat style guitar which worked (I cannot find the type that originally went on this thing). I cleaned it up and it sounds great!! It was also in pretty good condition! I am just a couch guitarist, so this type of guitar is right up my alley!! 🎸
@@dexdeimos425 I plan on it! I replaced the knobs with gold metal ones and have a gold tremelo bar. The guitar is black so it is gold on black and looks awesome! The only thing I have left to do is replace two springs on the center single coil pickup. Whoever owned it must have removed it for some reason and I want to raise it a bit.
I like what you've accomplished here. Sometimes people make fun of collectors but for some reason, I have the same appreciation you have for Yamaha gear, specially in the guitar department. Keep uploading, even if you've already talked about an instrument, if you discover something new or buy some new replacement hardware for it, tell us about it, we surely be very glad to hear it from you. ( Please, just mind how your videos might affect the used market, do it carefully....).
A friend of my dad gifted me this guitar and still today 10 years later is still the best guitar I have ever played. (Still changed to EMG pickups though)
I've covered it with band stickers as a teenager! Also, I recently installed a killswitch on it and with the active pickups it's a monster of a guitar.. So light and comfortable to play. It even stays in tune pretty well. 10/10 🎸for me!
Had several of these back in the day...poor man's Jackson...lol. The reason I got into them was seeing Rick Emmett playing a white one (pro model of course) and wanted one. Ended up buying 3 of them, white, red and black. Swapped out the bridges for Floyd's, Seymour Duncan bridge pickups, gotoh turners and 9-42 strings. Properly setup, they were killer guitars for the price range ($399 Canadian If I remember correctly). Sounded great through my marshall jcm 800. Wish I still had the white one though. All my current guitars are white and love all!
Oh man, I had no idea Rick played one but that makes perfect sense! I remember watching an old REH video with him where he was definitely endorsed by Yamaha and had a sweet custom SG2000 (maybe 1000?). Such a monster of a player. Very underrated. 🎸🙌
Had one in metalic blue with a slight sparkle in the paint. Somewhere its in one of my senior pictures from '92 with a mullet nonetheless. This video certainty took me back
Oh man, that’s killer! 🤣🙌 It seems quite a few people had these back in the day. I’m starting to think owning an RGX is a bit of a rite of passage for shred guitars or something 🤣🤷♂️ I’d love to see that blue one - I’m a sucker for blue sparkly guitars! 🎸.
Fantastic review and love the guitar but I'm a yamaha man . I play drums as well and have a yamaha set They just make stuff that may not be the prettiest but it just works
Hello there , Great video , I own a white one , it’s still in very good shape , love how it plays , mine is stamped PN20114 . How would you decipher my serial number ? Made in Taiwan . Cheers .
I just use the Yamaha published charts. Here is where I found the details for this one. Maybe yours is here too? www.yamaha.com/yamahaguitars/ElectricandBassGuitarSerialNumberSystems.pdf
Yes Yamaha should bring these back!

Same problem here, you solve it?
@@AllenThrasher I haven’t had to yet. I was lucky and this one came with the bar. 🤷♂️

That sounds like an incredible score! Hang on to that thing! 🎸

Seriously underrated guitars. They feel so nice to play and sound amazing. Really wish they'd can off the inferior pacifica and bring the rgx back.
I use to have one of these YEARS ago! Great review. Thanks, bro! :)
Thanks so much - glad you liked it!

No doubt - great guitars! Glad to hear you’ve hung onto it all these years and still play it! 👍🎸🍻

Great review! Thanks for the video. I was thinking about getting one of these to add to my collection.
Thanks! Super glad you liked it. These old RGX models are really fantastic for the $$. Cheers! 🎸🍻

Yeah, you see in action on his "Big Lie" video. Cool tune too!
@@dexdeimos425 my bad! It's on Triumph's "Somebody's Out There " video.
I’m going to check that out ASAP! Thanks a bunch 🙏🎸
Got a black one for $50 last year. Pretty nice guitar.
What a steal! 🤯

Thanks! 🙏 Totally agree - I don’t think I’ve ever played a Yamaha instrument that wasn’t half decent. Even the super cheap stuff. 🤷♂️🎸🍻

Thanks Eric! Glad to hear you’re liking the channel! 🎸🙏
I grabbed a RGX612 and gotta say it’s become the go to, replacing the Ibby RG4ex don’t know how this didn’t gain traction absolute rippers
Oh, nice score! I totally agree! One of my biggest regrets was selling my 612S 🤦♂️. Cheers! 🍻🎸
yeah the 612s in white with a hardcase for $400 was hard to turn down. It even convinced me into getting an RBX800a @@dexdeimos425
Very cool, reminds me of the jack butler guitar 👍
Thanks, and you’re right! This definitely does have that crossroads vibe! Maybe I should do a rapidlick on some of those monster Steve Vai licks 🤔🎸
@dexdeimos425 that would be awesome dude!
