    I bought Tolino shine 4 and noticed that every hour of use, the battery lost 10 percent... Is this normal? Should I return it to the store? Please answer me, thank you

    I'm from Belgium and have a Tolino Vision 2. Very old thing (2014/2015), but I use it daily and it still works great after all these years! Great battery life, ect. But I wanna update and get a new e-reader (treat to myself).
    Still debating on buying a new Tolino Shine 4 or a Kobo Clara 2E. I don't need any online libraries or online bookshop stuff like Thalia.
    All my current e-books have a epub format. I read a lot online on Kobo and if you fully want to enjoy Kobo, like reading stats and stuff like that you need a kepub file. Is this true?
    If you have a normal epub format on a Kobo, it doesn’t give you those stats?
    I also read you can use Calibre to change the format from epub to kepub, but I’m not sure if it’s easy to do because I don’t use Calibre. Unsure if the convert of epub files in bulk can be smoothly done in Calibre without issues like corrupting the original epub file.
    I have a few manga’s, but they all have a pdf format. Tolino is not known for its quality in the use of pdf formats. But it’s working good enough for me, even on my old Tolino. I don’t need to use the zoom function a lot on my manga’s. Is a Kobo really that much better for pdf files?
    Still a lot of questions before buying :) Outweighing the pros and cons for each device.

      That's a tough one 😅
      I generally like the Kobo Clara 2E better because the UI is cleaner and more refined. Navigating PDFs works OKAY, but not great, because the CPU isn't especially powerful.
      The Tolino Shine 4 has more powerful hardware, which should be better for viewing PDF-files. But unfortunately the software isn't optimized, so the PDF viewing experience is pretty bad in my opinion. Worse than on the Vision 2. Only when rooting you can get more out of it - but that takes a bit of tinkering.
      But Tolino said they were working on an updated user interface, so that MIGHT change in the future.
      As for the kepub situation: Yes, it's true that you don't have reading stats for regular epub files. But you can convert epub to kepub pretty easily with Calibre. You just need to install the extension "kepub output" directly from within Calibre. You can even convert them in bulk, which generally works without a problem. Only "hard" DRM-protected ebooks can't be converted with Calibre.
      I'll post a Kobo Clara 2E video within the next couple of days, maybe that helps with your decision 😄

    Thanks for this video. Very helpful indeed 😊 Do you know if the PressReader app can be used with the Tolino Shine 4, and if so, how is the user experience? (e.g. with newspapers that have several columns on one page). Thx

      If you mainly want to use it for Android apps, I'd suggest getting a dedicated Android ereader. The Shine 4 generally works fine for apps, but at this point there are better options for Android to be honest.
      The Meebook M6 offers a good compromise between ease of use and Android expandability. Or you could go for a Boox Poke 5 or Boox Page. Those are nice as well. Just get any of those from a local reseller or Amazon, which should make warranty claims (if needed) easier.

    Hey :) at 8:11 you wipe briefly from bottom to top and then you come out to new Menu Points... I cant do that the same way... Nothing happens with my Tolion when I`m doing this the same way... Do you have an idea way ? Thanks for some Info :)

      Sorry if that wasn't clear - that's the App I installed by rooting the ereader. You can find more info on that here: allesebook.de/anleitung/tolino-vision-6-root-adb-und-apps-installieren-anleitung-982588/

      wenn es etwas mehr kostet ist das kein problem, mir ist nur die Akkulaufzeit wichtig und da sind Tablets ja oft schwach (wegen des displays)
      danke 👍

    If you have installed KoReader on this, does the faster processor make a big difference when compared with KoReader on the Clara 2E? Or even on their default ebook software? I'm surprised they have different processors - I thought they kept pretty much the same specs.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say KOReader is a bit faster than the default reading app on Tolino.
      I can't say anything in terms of speed compared to the Kobo Clara 2E at the moment, as I'm not having it with me right now. But the hardware is identical, so any difference should be minimal and is only related on how KOReader is running on either Android (Tolino) or "pure" Linux (Kobo).

    • @andysmith1996
      @andysmith1996 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChalidRaqami Thanks, Chalid. The hardware isn't quite identical, at least according to Tolino. They claim the Shine has a 1.8GHz processor, while according to Kobo the Clara 2E has a 1GHz processor.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andysmith1996 Oh, you're right. For some reason I thought they updated to the Allwinner chipset they're using on the Sage and Elipsa - and all new Tolinos are using as well. 🙄
      I guess they opted for the less power hungry chip, which brings enough performance without the stylus support.
      I'll compare KOReader speeds when I get the chance and will mention it in my review of the Clara 2E.

    • @andysmith1996
      @andysmith1996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChalidRaqami Thanks. I'll look out for that review. I'd also be interested to know if the comfort light pro goes a deeper orange on the Tolino than the Clara. It looks like it does, but it's hard to tell on TH-cam and the LEDs vary between individual Claras anyway. I wonder if it would be possible to buy the Shine 4 and load the Clara OS on it in the same way people swap out the internal memory card for a bigger one. That would give you a Clara with a faster processor and more RAM.

      I'm using the Tolino Vision 6 and Kindle Oasis 3. I always pick the Oasis for traveling, because it feels more robust and battery life is better than on the Tolino.
      Dropped it a few times (hard), had it with me on the beach and on flights - all without a case and while the aluminum backside looks a bit rough after all this time, the front is still without a scratch.

    Very sad that a european ebook manufacturer has such poor translate UI. Half the time, we are reading books in a foreign language.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are signs, that Tolino might update their UI to something completely new. There are no announcements as of yet, so we can only wait for it at the moment. I expect something for the Frankfurt book fair 2023.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, unfortunately not - it's only available in Europe. Importing it would be the only option to get it, but even though it's a great device, I would recommend getting the Kobo Clara 2e instead, which has the same screen. Only if you want to use Android, the Kobo Clara 2e isn't the better choice imho.

    Thanks. Tolino Shine 4 or Kobo Clara 2 E better?

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hardware is the same, but software is very different.
      The Kobo Clara 2E is better out of the box, but the Tolino Shine 4 can make use of Android apps (although not intended by the manufacturer), which is nice if you want to tinker with the device.
      I personally would recommend the Clara 2E to anyone who just wants to read and maybe want to use audiobooks.

      @@ChalidRaqami Thanks. And if Clara is compared with Paperwhite 2021?
      The diagonal is different, yes. I'm not for that. In your opinion, what is better to use

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VNB.. I find this to be more difficult to answer, because there are more variables at play.
      Short answer: Kindle Paperwhite.
      Long answer:
      I'd say softwarewise they are similar in terms of main features, with Kindle still being a bit better, especially when it comes to additional features (vocabulary trainer, kids mode, whispersync for voice etc.).
      Hardwarewise they use the same display technology and are pretty even in terms of quality (contrast & lighting). But I like the flush screen and haptics of the Paperwhite more.
      So I personally would pick the Kindle Paperwhite, because it has more advantages and the bigger screen is actually more comfortable to use imho.
      But depending on where your focus lies, the Clara 2E may just as well be the better device. You can hardly go wrong with either one.
