dawgs, this has happened before in so many other star wars stories, dark side users can survive potentially lethal wounds with their hate and anger, because at the end of the day, they’re scared of death, while people on the light side can accept it. Been happening for awhile

@@stag2177 Yes but the fact that it has happened other times doesn't change how narratively terrible it is. Lightsabers are arguably the coolest and most dangerous handheld weapon in the history of fiction. Yet the folks behind the brand keep nerfing the weapons' effectiveness. How can lightsaber duels remain dramatic and tense if defeated people can literally"walk it off" by being angry enough? 🤦
      To make matters worse...
George Lucas showed Darth Maul being sliced into because he initially wanted the character to be permanently dead. But Maul was so popular that LucasFilm brought the character back.
Now anytime LucasFilm or Disney think of an interesting / merchandisible character, the character almost never dies or remains dead. Fennec Shand, Fives, Asajj Ventress, Boba Fett, Asoka Tano, the Emperor (somehow), the list goes on and on. Don't be surprised when (not if) when Cad Bane returns in a future Star Wars project.

Two parallel stories of Obi-Wan and Vader in which they never actually meet, but instead their time together is flashed back to would have been the most tasteful way to do this. Have it take place 3-5 years after ROTS, and have the story be of Obi-Wan growing stronger in the light / reconnecting with the force, and have Vader struggling to put behind his past as Anakin. The resolution being we see Obi-Wan get on track to become Obi-Wan from ANH, and we see Vader begin to let go of Anakin, falling deeper into the dark side, and foreshadowing the calm, cool, collected, and callous Vader we see in ANH.

As underwhelming as Kenobi was, Boba Fett was far worse. That score for BoBF is far too generous IMO. Kenobi I’d say was some scattered awesome moments surrounded by terrible writing and setup for a much less interesting series.
Where Boba Fett was painfully boring throughout and scatterbrained. Even though it had two good episodes, those should’ve been saved for Mandalorian Season 3 and had nothing to do with the show itself. Besides, those good episodes were followed by a horrible finale that makes Mando S2 completely pointless.

Ironically, I could've seen that being a crossover that could've worked when Disney owned Power Rangers (if the right people were working on it). "May the Force be with you" verses "May the Power protect you." Maybe a prequel where Zordon was a Jedi padawan becoming a Jedi knight that gets lost and badly injured to the point his physical body cannot exist outside an containment field for a long time. He travels on a ship that later crashes on Earth while pursuing Rita Replusa, an evil force user that's not truly a Sith. He and his companion wait for Replusa to awaken. The highs of Boba fett(the two episodes that didnt include Boba Fett) were greater than highs of Kenobi. Boba fett was never a central character show nobody really cared. Even if Tbobf is overall a worse show, the magnitude of failure of a show like Kenobi makes it the worst star wars dinsey+ product. They had a perfect opportunity to explore so much lore with Kenobi and give us a deep dive into the post ROTS era with better writing and execution than what the prequels were. This could have been the most interesting character study of how Kenobi went from a beaten middle aged man to the hopeful wise man we know from ANH. Yet all we saw was 5 episodes of Obi wan's side quests and tbh except the half mask Vader moment, nothing else from that fight is memorable at all and i dont think Kenobi being stronger than Vader with the force is the right way to connect to the line 'I was but the leaner but I am the master'. Kenobi was always known for outsmarting his opponents and not outfighting them, the fight didnt do justice to that.

Not to mention the writers egregiously dumbing down Obi Wan's character. He's now officially useless. Completely complicit the deaths of millions even after fully realizing that Anakin is gone.
Right before the final fight Obi Wan admits to himself that he must do what must be done. I guess those were just empty words. Such a malicious character assassination of these fan favourites is going to cause significant anger in the fan base.
This was the last jedi for prequel fans. Just like Luke was turned into Jake by Rian Johnson, this series turned Obi Wan into Noobi Wan - a man who needs ten year olds, scam artists, ice cube jr. and incompetent spies to lead him around everywhere.
Darth Vader went from the most iconic and feared villain in movie history to Saturday morning cartoon villain.
The combined IQ of Kenobi and Vader in this show is less than 50. That's unforgivable.
All who use PTSD as excuse for both Kenobi and Vader's incompetence here have no idea how PTSD or depression work.

As someone who strongly disliked both Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett it is absolutely clear BOBF is so much worse. Kenobi has some redeeming qualities, BOBF does not. I think the main reason Kenobi ranked lower is because people had high expectations for Obi-Wan and Vader (then felt tricked when they had a smaller role than we thought) and because BOBF left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Ironically, the same way BOBF is making some fans hate Kenobi more, it is probably also make some fans love it more since "at least it isn't BOBF"

Look, I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s Star Wars “experience”, however, if you happily accept crap, they will never do more than give you crap.
An analogy, if a restaurant gives everyone food poisoning every time anyone eats there and no one ever complains and just keeps going and giving them money, what motivation does the restaurant have to stop giving everyone food poisoning?
These are the basic requirements for a competent story, not a multi-million dollar production , but ANY story.
Obi-Wan fails at all 10 of these requirements.
Ten Basic Requirements for a competent Story
    1. Have a Story to tell. A beginning, middle & end.
    2. Follow a story structure that works, such as "Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___."
    3. Follow the Law of Noncontradiction.
    4. Write interesting, memorable and relatable characters.
    5. Keep character consistency.
    6. Honor cause and effect.
    7. Detail the rules of your universe and Obey the established rules of the universe the story takes place in.
    8. Set up & then pay off.
    9. Subversion, make the subversion as logical and rewarding, if not more, than what you are subverting from.
    10. Write a good ending, ideally something you may not see coming, but ultimately feels inevitable.

I liked Book of Boba but it's best parts were the Mando episodes, honestly I'm both shocked and not that Kenobi is rated lower, you major expectations that when not met will result in major disappointment, sadly that's what Kenobi was faced with and yeah I hoped those in charge would know the risk of botching this story after the many backlash from other legacy issues, I myself did enjoy this show more then Boba, but since boba is an untold story in an era after the OT there's less risk of getting wrong vs a major character Kenobi in a era before the OT, there's just something more to lose.

I, for one, think that this series could have been fantastic if they actually studied the main characters (Obi-Wan and Darth Vader) and enhanced them in a way that you could watch the prequels then the series, then the originals seamlessly and they would compliment each other. Kind of like how Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad enhance eachother. I would have Obi-Wan NOT learn that Anakin was alive until he slashed Vader's helmet in the "Rematch of the Century". Shocked, confused and mortified, Obi-Wan then gets stabbed in the guy by Vader and thrown off a cliff, Vader thinks he's dead, Qui-Gon appears as a Force Ghost to Obi-Wan and gives some motivational guidance and Obi-Wan leaves to get healed. It's one plot hole I think would've been fixed, in a show apparently riddled with holes.

If you don’t count the two random mando episodes squished into the Boba Fett, I think Obi was a much better show. I haven’t thought once about Boba since the show and I blamed it on a lackluster director. Obi however I had much higher expectations for and it really makes me sad since we might not get another chance to see Ewan play Obi Wan again. Most of the show was sloppy and cheap looking, but with some very high moments as well. The finale with obi vs vader was one of my favorite Star Wars moments in the last few years and yet the episode as a whole was still disappointing. I feel like they got us hooked with a super high quality show like Mando and now are cutting budgets on future projects because they know we’ll watch whatever they put in front of us. If this were any other show, movie or IP, what I'm about to say would not be challenged, shilled or at the very least, disputed or gaslighted:
When it comes to any type of entertainment or even fiction in general, one of the first things a story needs to do is grab your interest that either gets you to click on the next episode or watch the sequel.
    Right?
    Well, under normal circumstances..
Being that the show is called Kenobi is misleading. It should be called The Adventures of Reva, Leia & Kenobi. And if you think that's being sarcastic or that I'm being cross, THE SHOW ITSELF took somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 minutes before we even get to Kenobi in the very 1st episode of his own show. Again, that is a technical, objective fact that ultimately informs you subconsciously of the importance of said characters.
Now, if it would have been played as campy, or had not taken itself so serious, (especially to those who either bypass it's flaws or admits them but still praise the show) that would be a totally different scenario.
Yet, 90% of the action, dialogue cinematography and locations, are at best, cheap or amateur. It reminds me of Sci-Fi Saturdays. The ONLY difference now of course the music which again, informs you subconsciously how to feel. Characters are taking a stance to only change a few seconds later, lightsabers bouncing off stormtroopers, Kenobi not walking around a laser fence, before hand, saying Leia's real name in front of stormtroopers while they're wanted fugitives, Lala discussing infiltration plans in the same exact space as the enemy, and the list gets quite lengthy.. before we get to that infamous tench coat scene..
Those issues branch further in to plot holes, inconsistencies and entanglements of Grand Father Paradox proportions.
How is Bail Organa not in prison before A New Hope seeing as how Vader now knows of all that transpired in this show? How can a youngling survive a stab wound by one of, if not the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy? Is Reva the only one that survived? And how does that keep Anakin/Vader as the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy if he can't kill a defenseless youngling??
Star Wars or not, there's very little in the way of compelling or even good storytelling that gives you a vested interest in continuing other than one's own interests. The only real emotion came in Episode 6 of a 6 episode show. The show refuses to give try basic story structure, refuses to make sense even if given the opportunity, makes holes and inconsistencies at nearly every plot point. Were it not even the largest IP in history, I'd still rate it a 3.5 out of 10.

You know when Vader is dominating the fight or viceversa. It was not enjoyable except for the obvious fan service for all of us that love Star Wars I would have like a full on battle like Revenge of the Sith, except this time ending in a stalemate. Then Vaders words to Obi Wan still holds up true: “When I LEFT you I was but a learner…”. Because none won the fight. I hated that after all that time Obi Wan still won the fight at the end and worst, he left Vader on the ground without doing what he must. It’s not consistent at all!

I know a lot of other people didn't like how he was portrayed in the show, but I actually liked it. Kenobi just kinda put a bad taste in my mouth and I felt it was completey unecessary and took away from the OT somewhat. Boba Fett, while it could've used a lot of improvement, didn't do that. And him getting killed off then not giving an explanation of how he survived. And they ended up doing the same with Reva being left for dead and she just quickly gets to Tatooine. Also I thought it was weird how Obi-Wan sorta just leaves Reva hanging on the mining planet when he said "Because all he'll see is me" which would imply that he'd stay and fight while Reva would try to sneak attack Vader. "You won't stop him alone." And maybe the sixth episode should had been Reva and Obi-Wan fighting Vader, where Reva would die leaving that actual final fight. But among other things, hearing James Earl Jones still being able to deliver his role as Vader was awesome. And Hayden Christensen having to speak to Obi-Wan with a mix of him and Jones' voice I think was more exciting than the battle. And the little things, there was a Stormtrooper in the third episode who was a bit laid back, showing his human side. I actually thought Obi-Wan would have to kill him, but instead a different group of Stormtroops, and I really liked that they showed a pretty graphic death at that scene. Also Reva just cutting off the woman's hand was surprising.

Honestly, I kinda liked it. I didn't think they ruined any characters or did anything offensive. And amping up the Force use/power level was pretty cool, doesn't make any sense... but it was cool.
Edit: want to add I am SO HAPPY Hayden didn’t ruin it for me. I thought he did perfectly fine, which is all I needed.

I think Kenobi was unnecessary you can ignore what happened in the show and nothing will change, in fact, everything is better if you ignore the show, and in some aspects like the props it’s the worst Star Wars Series, At least Boba Fett looked descent at minimum in its props and settings

Star wars writers: *tries to keep everything the same so that they don't retcon anything important in the original trilogy*
"Fans": Omg they didn't do anything in the show, everything is the same if you ignore the show.
      My prediction.
Star wars writers: *changes or adds literally anything that can explains any previous plot holes in the prequels, original, clone wars, etc*
"Fans" what the actual living fuck? Why would you change/add anything to star wars??? Do they even know what they're doing???

I have to wonder just what kind of injury did Darth Vader inflict on Reva that she recovered without a bacta tank, like putting a bandage on a burn and is perfectly OK. This is a bigger plot hole than Leia and Darth Vaders needing to forget that anything happened.

Star Wars live action has gone from being a must see spectacle to just a content factory to pump stories out to keep people subscribed to a streaming service in less than 10 years. We aren’t even getting movies like the MCU does, that’s how far Star Wars has fallen. Thanks Disney.
I like a compelling consistent story with competent villains, sadly Kenobi lacked all that. I’m not surprised this scored lower than TBOBF. People didn’t like what they did to Boba and it did have some plot holes & bad writing but Kenobi was far worse for plot holes and poor writing.
Star Wars isn’t Marvel or DC comic stuff with multiverses and rebooted characters etc. What I liked about Star Wars, for the most part, the content creators tried to be consistent with the overall story but now LFL doesn’t care about it. Want to retcon something that happened in a comic even though it adds nothing of value to the overall story? No problem, go right ahead. The EU got made Legends so they could have more freedom and create a new single unified & consistent canon, that lasted how long? Pablo has said as long as the key moments line up how you get there can be up to the current creative. I hate this approach.

The show felt like a tug of war between two different writing teams. One team wanted to tell a deeply emotional story about Obi-Wan struggling to overcome his guilt over Anakin and having to come face-to-face with the monster that Anakin has become, all before learning to let go of that loss and not let it define him anymore. The other team wanted to write an adventure story about young Leia and subtly change the lore to state that Obi-Wan only succeeded because Reva turned back to the light. The finale really felt like they were trying to say that Reva is the real reason Luke stayed a secret from the Empire and became a Jedi, and that they were undermining Obi-Wan.

One thing that disappointed me was Haja Estree. I love Haja but he is all over the place. Why did Reva not kill him when we saw her chop someone's hands off for no real reason in the earlier episode? How closely tied is he to the Rebellion versus the grifting we see him doing as his introduction? Hubby and I were chatting and we would have loved to see him as Leia's new personal head of security at the end. That would have been a brilliant blend of the goodness we've seen in him and that grifting/streetwise side of him that would be ready to counter Leia’s developmentally appropriate moments of child brattiness, as well as show respect to his willingness to help Obi-wan.
Just picture it: Leia stands in the doorway looking out at the forest. Enter Haja in formal robes with a datapad. “Not today, Princess,” he says with a grin and a wink. Leia looks up at him and grins. “I know! Duty comes first.” Haja chuckles as she disappears behind a screen with attendants to get dressed.

Honestly, Kenobi wasn't that bad. I do think it could have been better in certain areas, but overall it was a pretty decent show. It's clear to me that there was more effort put into this than in many of the Disney+ shows of recent memory. (like Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, The Book of Boba Fett, Mando S2, The Bad Batch, etc.)
I don't think it was really the show Star Wars fans were hoping for, but it's far from being terrible. Also, the fact that they got Andrew Stanton, the Director of Finding Nemo and WALL-E to write for the last two episodes is amazing. (And there was definitely a big quality increase in those two from episode 4)
Edit: I do agree with you that they should have done more with the flashbacks. The rumor of there being flashbacks to The Clone Wars in the show was one of the main pulls towards it for me. I do like what they did with it in that one episode, but it could have been so much more. Additionally, I was not a fan of how Vader and Obi-Wan's duel ended. I know Obi-Wan can't die because that would break canon, but I would have preferred it if it ended with either Vader leaving Kenobi buried under those rocks, or some force of nature causing the battle to end in a stalemate.
That way, it wouldn't undermine Vader's strength, or make Obi-Wan look too powerful. (Like how he was able to chuck all those rocks at Vader, when Vader could literally have ground them all to dust and flung them back at him.)
Additionally, the Inquisitors all felt very out of character to me. I heard that the actor playing the Grand Inquisitor didn't even bother to watch Rebels before taking the part, which was definitely a red flag for me. In comparison to the ruthless yet cunning Jedi hunter we see in that show, the Grand Inquisitor felt very stiff and cold in Kenobi. Similarly, Fifth Brother seemed to only have the character trait of being aggressive, and lost the more sinister edge that he had in Rebels.
Leia was portrayed very well in that show in my opinion though. She's exactly how I imagined she'd act at that age.

It's super interesting seeing the writing on this, after it came out along Stranger Things 4, the writing for which has been incredible. Obviously completely different genre, but why can't we expect the same high quality writing when dealing with such a beloved set of characters, when the Duffer Brothers are out there demonstrating incredible modern tv writing?

Kenobi is definitely the worst directed and shot of the series. Wobbling hand held camera switching to over the top shaky cam and jump cuts during action to hide poor choreography. Not like star wars filming at all. Mos SW fan films do this much better understanding how star wars footage should look.

Considering how little she heard from the holo message, and the fact that Obi skipped on her on Jabiim, I agree with the thought that Reva thinks Luke is Kenobi’s son. She couldn’t fully read Owen in the beginning but now she knows what it is Owen was hiding at the time, the fact he knows Obi. Now she knows of “the boy” but that’s all she got. No mention of Anakin, just Vader, and it’s conceivable that Obi could’ve had a kid over the years, and if he DID he’d of course not want Vader knowing (the “if he finds out about the boy” part) Assuming she’s thinking this way, It would make sense to her if Obi had a kid he’d leave him with family before going on a rescue mission. Now she thinks she knows something about Kenobi that even Vader doesn’t know and she can get her revenge by killing the son of the man who left her to fight Vader alone. Basically she got the wrong idea and then came to her senses before she could do the deed. Plus I think the Force had a hand in it as well.

@@shinian6523 You’re right, but he also told her she can’t take on Vader alone. Add the “I’m bringing him to you” bit which was an ultimatum, and Vader telling Reva it was wise for Obi to use her against him and you can see why she’d feel betrayed. Again.

While I thought the show we got was ok, a 2.5/5, the expectations of the fans were at the high point that only a near perfect story would satisfy them. What we got was not that. If they had taken out the Kenobi/ Vader story lines and made it about the first Jedi we saw on Tatoonie, I forgot his name, and have him go through this story line and going against Reva, it would have made more sense. Of course the title would need to be changed, but it may have been enjoyed more since no main line characters were mentioned (maybe keep Vader around to organize Reva and the rest) and no large expectations or plot holes to rune. Than you would have people compare it to Jedi: Fallen Order, so maybe it would be a lose/lose situation anyway.
