I am a simple man: I see a low pass - and I vote up!
Haha, thank you!

fr = for real
Absolutely stunning compilation! I thoroughly enjoyed it- those New Zealand scenes are pure magic, and Livno is just as awe-inspiring. Other places as well of course. It’s amazing to see the art of gliding showcased so beautifully, harnessing the wonders of nature with such skill. Fantastic work all around!
Because it's looks so easy, I can imagine how strong it is to get to this point of perfection - well done Mr. SteFly! 👍
Thank You! 😄
wonderful having you soaring in New Zealand.... wow some great footage Stefan!
Woo hoo, you are like a low pass fighter jet pilot there. Absolutely phantastic video.
Simply awesome Stefan! Moments to remember forever!
This is so beautyfull. The interaction of technology and nature!
Incredible Stefan!! I once flew with a friend 30 feet over Icelands southern black sand shore. Mind blowing!! Thank you for sharing 💛💙
Wow, Iceland sounds amazing!
Very nice scenery and low flying
Absolut!
You can watch the low passage over the water and mountains endlessly. It's very exciting and cool!
Nice compilation, thanks Stefan. I always think that the sound of the wheel touching mother-earth is such an anti-climax... like the bird has finally been snared!
Very nice! The one over the lake ist the best in my opinion.
Traffic pattern in Potch 😂
@@SteFly Yes the low Passes in Potch are also very nice. The ones in New Zealand Look also unreal when you are chasing the other glider it has to feel Like the Part in Top Gun Maverik, when you now what i mean😂.
Heute hab ich dich mal am Flugplatz kennengelernt, ab jetzt bist du mein Segelflieger Star .
Simply stunning
Wow this must be a blast !!
Excellent flight.
Du machst die coolsten Segelflug Videos😮💨💪♥️🔥
Danke!
As a non pilot myself, I am curious as to how the glider gains altitude when so low over the water or beach. Isn't the glider in constant falling state? Are there thermals over the beach? I am intrigued as to the physics.
The beach has the cliffs which deflects the wind to rise up. The glider can use this lift to gain height or speed.
@@SteFly Thanks for the reply. Your flights are very impressive and these close to ground sequences had me on edge as you got closer to the ground.
@@SteFly And here? 1:17
Stunning! 😮
As a former hang glider pilot and currently a small plane pilot, who gets in a few hours most years dead stick ridge soaring, I "get"it, but the performance your aircraft has STILL boggles my mind!
beautiful.. take care and happy landings
any chance you could tell us where these places are? the first one looked like NZ
Wow great shot.Best music I ever heard.perfect view.I love this Paradise.❤🛩️🎵love you bab.
Very beautiful flights!
That must take a lot of skill and knowledge to aviate like that. Truly remarkable. It looks more like powered flight!
What a magnificent sport...Pure poetry in action !
Couldn't agree more!
congratulations on the content, where is this beach?
West Coast North Island New Zealand from Murawai .

The ground rush is fantastic. Did you have a pusher just in case you ran out of energy at a key point ?
Fantastic !!
this is freedom. How this thing can travel far and low is amazing.
Having only really ever flown on the Schleicher K7 and K8 all these chill low altitude clips are giving me panic attacks. 😅
The glide angle on these things is just amazing.
what can one do to make the plane much more quiet in the cabin? what can be done outside on the design and what sound proofing measures can be done?
Energy management done well!
This looks like a dream...
So cool, wow!!
Fun video!
Looks beautiful and terrifying, whole new meaning to range anxiety.
Very impressive flying - I expected to see a small thermal exhaust port at some point ... no bigger than a wamp rat.
Hey Stefan, amazing flying as allways! If you could mount a polarizing filter on your gopros, that would remove a lot of the reflections in the conpy! 😁👍
Thank you for that!
Hi Stefan, Since you have this new glider with e-motor, you take more risks with low flying! But the videos are great.
Really?! Except a short scene, all footage is with different gliders without propulsion. Even the electric system would not help when I‘m flying so low.
How do you know you can make it to an airport when you're so close to the ground? Experience? Hope? Is there an instrument in the cockpit that shows you your gliding range based on altitude and airspeed?
One aspect is that all the low passes are done at very high speed - therefore, if necessary, the speed can be used to climb to a much higher altitude & extend the glide range.
High speed during the low pass will gain you only about 150m , maybe 200m thanks to conservation of energy. Your main friend is the wind blowing on the terrain and forced upwards. Glider goes down in an airmass going up "fast"; glider goes up relative to ground. You need strong wind, wide mountains/cliffs and airmanship.
Also the ground is high on many of these shots so it gives plenty of gliding distance to join an airstrip (count in 10 x km gliding autonomy).
Hope is useful but not mandatory.
Yes, there is such an instrument (glide computers, can be part of the glider or in your smartphone) but a map, knowing your current height relative to target airstrip and a simple cross multiplication will do very fine. Don't forget to allow a few meters as margin for error for a a good, safe final glide. Also fly slowly. Your glide ratio will be about 40. 50 if your glider is state of the art. Good luck
Excellent.
0:54 that might be one of the most epic moments from your channel
Thank you 😄
Can I ask what the left-hand movements that appear similar to throttle inputs are?
Amazing 😃
wow , amazing
I flew the German GroB acrobatic glider 2 seater. Outside loops, Inside loops, hammer heads etc. Arizona desert has strong up drafts, took no time at all to reach desired altitude.
Didn't know you could get enough lift in what looked like pretty flat terrain. Impressive!
If flat, there is no lift. Mountain / cliff / ridge + wind = lift
Geiles video
Repost without the music
Rewatch with the sound off.
@ Geiler Sche***😁
How does this work...
Pilot dives to convert potential energy to kinetic energy (altitude decreases -> airspeed increases). Then pilot uses the wing to convert kinetic energy to just enough lift to balance drag and maintain altitude (airspeed decreases). When the glider rolls to a stop on the runway, its total energy is zero. Observe the Air Speed Indicator starting at 4:48. On the beach runs, the glider seemed to be gaining some energy from the off shore breeze hitting the beach because the airspeed only dropped when he climbed back up higher on the ridge.
High performance gliders have low drag over a wide range of airspeeds, so they're very good at playing this game.
Hallo Stefan, geniales Best off!!! Gruß aus NRW
Vielen Dank!!
So how does this actually work? I though when flying a glider, once you come down, you can't go up unless there is some cloud with air lift above you?
Ridge lift from deflected wind works aswell
Is there a "map" of thermals how do you know you can make it back for sure when you go so low while bleeding off energy by going so fast with parasitic drags?
no thermal map. E = m.g.h = 0.5.m.v^2. Also Glide ratio is about 40 at normal speed so 1000m is about 40km of gliding. Much less if you fly fast
@@guillaumenicodeme4391 He was going about 120kt at about 50ft in one of the beach scene, how high would that kinetic energy get you then that would allow you to glide back to airport without any thermal?
Hey, where is the traffic pattern? Cowboy flying!
Grandios!
at 2 mins what would you say your speed range is?
Close to VNE, about 270 km/h
@@SteFly Faster than I would have thought. As fast as a wingsuit. incredible stuff mate. Cant wait to start Gliding 😍
Awesome
Expert class in energy management.
Der Hammer.
Wow, getting rather flirtatious with the Vne at times :p
Yes but the condotions are not very turbulent so that‘s fine.
Can a pilot of a paraglider learn to fly this sail plane?
I know nothing of gliders so forgive my question. When you are low and your kinetic energy is depleted what then?
Crazy!
Three gliders were landed into the water to make this video 😮😮😮 But it was worth it 👍👍👍
Großartig fliegen! Sehr spektakulär! 😎😎 (Ich kann nicht das mit der IS-28b2...😄)
Excuse my ignorance, I don't know anything about gliders. How is this particular glider propelled? I couldn't see any propeller.
@@TheNamAfrican only by the power of nature!
@SteFly but the way I understand gliders, they stay in the air by catching updrafts. How does this glider fly so far so low without losing altitude and crashing into the ground? Can there be air drafts that can make it increase in altitude again so low off the ground? I am confused because I don't fully understand the workings of gliders. I know there are some that have propellers though. My brain doesn't understand the power of it. But I know a TH-cam comment section is probably not the place to expect a full science lesson.
I like to know exactly where it's happening.
Damn, I don't even try that in my MSFS Gliders (VR).
super
Wow!
Stefan, can you teach me to fly? Live in France, 65 years old.
do it!
I´m not an instructor, sorry. But there are many aero clubs in France where you can start you glider training. It´s not so expensive and a lot of fun!
@@SteFly I've had some lessons at Nogaro. Not as much fun as what you do. Nevermind.
Lucky he had the air speed. No thermals over water
Gentle reminders: While fun trying, the World Low Flying Record is effectively finite and cannot ever be beaten. In loose formation, keep the lead below the effective horizon.
The Planes are so awesome compared to the ones I flew - Blanics Asks etc
MSFS 24 is so realistic!
At times flying like a wingsuit !
@@EarthWatcher736 But with unlimited glide ratio ✌️
Someone should build a powered aircraft based on a severely clipped glider. A bit like the BD-5, but better.
Plenty of those - see Pipistral Electo E eg. They started as a hang-glider manufacturer.
And there was a glider BD-5S but not put into production.
@waynerussell6401 I am aware of Pipistrel's models and none of them are what I am talking about. The BD-5S also doesn't fulfill what I am talking about, because it is, well, a BD-5 😄
I think there may be a misunderstanding, I wasn't suggesting a motor glider, I was suggesting a "real" single engine aircraft "incapable" of soaring, optimised for powered flight.
Something closer to a Micro Imp than to a Pipistrel Velis or Virus.
@@daszieher Checkout the ultra/micro- light expos like Friedrichshafen for innovation and the electrics for efficiency.
@waynerussell6401 electric isn't really worth as much as it's being hyped. A generator and fuel gives more energy per kg than a battery.
@ Electric has arrived and is definitely the future of light aviation. Already Electric has arrived and is definitely the future of light aviation. Already Electric has arrived and is definitely the future of light aviation. Already over taken ICE with best selling vehicle last two years a BEV.
The point is if you are seeking the efficiency of a sailplane for general aviation, electric is going to show the pinnacle of that because it is crucial. ICE gives over much of its power advantage in gross inefficiency from heat, vibration and noise, inability to shut down or recover power in descent - at ~20% efficiency cf electric at >90%. High maintenance, cost, poor performance and tech with low innovation and very small production has ruined general aviation. Research and innovation on electric drive trains means very few sailplane projects under development do not include electric options. Catch up on light aircraft electrics in April at Friedrichshafen.
Of Mad Dogs and Glider Pilots“ th-cam.com/video/x46ffIbdRA0/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Why do you say it is dangerous???? it seem to be very easy no???
It’s safer to fly higher and you don’t have the option to collide with the ground;)
