    The Renault Laguna has a classy cabin and is well equipped, while the refinement is good and the 1.5 dCi engine brings low company car tax bills.
    The diesels aren't very flexible. Rear kneeroom and boot space are below par and many rivals are better to drive.

    The 150HP is a good car. Totally reliable. Looks stylish and not as ordinary as an Audi or BMW. Much cheaper used buy. The money I saved on a German equivalent afforded me 3 weeks break in Papua New Guinea.

      I am surprised to read this (seven years later) as those Volvos are famous for being one of the most unreliable Volvos ever made (Geely Volvos not included). However, speaking of old Renaults, the 2000 Safrane 2.5 with the 5-cylinder Volvo engine is one of the most reliable 20th century cars Renault made…

  • @mcmkcd
    @mcmkcd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    ....got a 2.0l 140 cv flexfuel laguna 3 (flexfuel from the factory,) : the car has 10 years of service on all kind of roads (including trips to Austria, Scotland etc...), reached 190 km/H on Munich motorway free zone with boot full & 4 persons in board.... Always serviced on time, at cheap cost at Renault local dealer. Never changed anything on it except tires, brake pads & clutch last year ..... Now the car has 151 000 kms, it didn't have any breakdown & passed MOT 3 months ago with no fault...To be honest, I drive as much as possible like a WRC pilot, so this car has not been "protected"....
    So, reliability? yes!!! It still handles great, the engine runs as on the first day, eveything is Ok inside, nothing is worn or broken inside after 10 years carrying kids, a dog, and all kind of stuff...Now I could afford a luxury car (porsche, Jaguar, BMW etc.) but, no, thanks... This car is built as a rock, handles fine and doesn't cost me an eye in maintenance & fuel... So, what else to say except : I keep it !!!

      @mcmkcd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RallyVozac Hi, I bought an Abarth 500 180 cv since I wrote my comment. Sold the Laguna to my son in law. The car is still fine without problems on the MOT this month.
      The laguna handles really great , of course it is not a Formula one as it is built for family purpose, but I can compare it in corners with my previous : Alfa 156 V6 (Legendary V6 Busso & superb handling) , Xsara VTR (underrated car, great handling !!!) & BMW 316i compact (great handling too, & no difficulty with the rear wheel drive).
      Obviously you can find much better than the Laguna for sport, but for a cheap to buy & maintain roomy second hand family car, it is a great deal.
      The Abarth is fine, but needs much more attention & concentration in corners, obviously it is more powerful, brutal & lighter. Hope it will help you, bye.

      I add the fact that my laguna was professionally maintained each year by Renault dealer's workshop, tire condition & pressure controlled by myself every 2 or 3 months maximum. I'm a bit obsessive with security & mechanic health (what is real security when you drive fast).

    Ok so cars are getting more reliable but at the end of the day you have more technology to go wrong & more expensive repair bills.
    One more thing car engines rely on a rubber timing belt & if this belt snaps your engine blows up, go back to timing chains, to replace a rubber one after say 40000 50000 miles if it hasn’t already snapped is about £300 to £400 it must be like sitting on a time bomb.

Even here in the U.S. with the Renault Allianc, Eagle Talon, NISSANS's VQ engine, timing chaine issues and oils consumption issues. Renault leaves behind trash wherever they go. It's a shame cause they look nice with nice features. But that's where the honeymoon ends.
