  • I have previously had issues with starting my freelander 2 in cold weather and had to recharge the battery after attempting too many times to start it.
This neat little trick has worked everytime for me down to -7. currently has over 160,000 miles so a well run in 2007 freelander 2.
If your having issues starting your landrover freelander 2 try this trick.

Hi Alex, yes that trick can work, however your glow warning light on your FL2 is not coming on so your glow plugs are not working anyway, at 160,000 miles they are long overdue to be changed, but I would also check the relay or module depending on the year as 2012 they changed the set up. normally glow plugs on FL2's will work at sub-zero not above.

Thanks for this. I do get it serviced each year so I will have to ask about the glow plugs and module. Thanks!

No clutch on that one Alex 😁 But thanks for this info. Can't say I have noticed my glow plug symbol either so will check to see if it illuminates.

I've had the same problem with my freelander 2 when cold. I had tried the single no press start warm up which I had seen elsewhere and the past week I did the same thing twice, still had a starting issue. Maybe third time is the charm. Having said that, my glow plug indicator only came on the first time and not the second so I'd have to assume the plugs were at temp on the second try. Even so, still had the knocking rough start and clouds of white exhaust. Very frustrating. A bit warmer today and started very first push of the button on first crank. Strange.

Change glow plugs. Mine never has an issue starting cold since. As for the voltage draw check wire around engine for chafing. Or interior lights.

I am just wondering what it may cost to have the glow plugs replaced if you know?

@@alexwilliams7685 if your machanicaly minded you get can get the glow plugs for £18-£27 from eurocarparts. But if your paying your looking at £150-£300 quid depending on labour rates around you.

Mine starts first time in much colder conditions. Check your glow plugs

@@alexwilliams7685 I've had same problem with my 2008 freelander 2 and looked into replacing glow plugs. A bosch set of 4 will cost around £45 quid and from what I've read, a garage should charge around £200 to £300 quid to replace them. A bit of a fiddly job apparently as the exhaust manifold has to be removed.
