We talk with Frostgrave creator Joseph A. McCullough about the new The Red King expansion and how all of the 1st Edition Expansions still work with the 2nd Edition of the game.

So cool to see someone trying to make all the supplements compatible, complementary, yet optional, instead of the usual power creep we often see driving game sales
Very much this. I think that layering simple mechanics [with a decent helping of randomness] is both the best way to add complexity and variety to a game system, but also to keep things simple enough for the developer that they can see and correct any broken combos before they get published. I know some companies seem to just pump out new books without really comparing the contents of each one.
The fact that Frostgrave has as many books as it does now and NONE OF THEM are not good says a lot about how incredibly talented Joseph is
I love the idea that Forstgrave is an evolving world and you add and take what you want from it. I love these chats with the writers.
I like the way the “new” rules expanded and improved the game experience without replacing the “old”. My son just started playing with me and he likes the campaign ideas to grow the wizard and warband. Have a happy New Year’s holiday!
Getting back into Frostgrave is probably what I’m looking forward to most when clubs can reopen
I like the concept of how the expansions can be used together or on their own. Great way to let people grow into the product line.

As a former AD&D player, I love putting some roleplaying in my tabletop games. Special settings with scenarios and monsters are great at feeding that storytelling urge!
I love the idea of the string separating parts of the table and different game effects taking place on either side of it. That’ll be really interesting to explore. 😀 😀 😀
100% agree with Gerry about random tables... the best part of character/warband/dungeon creation!

Frostgrave is the only game that I have purchased every expansion book for (as well as all of the issues of Spellcaster Magazine). I will continue to support the game for as long as I can. It is just a very enjoyable game that can be played so many ways.
The Red King sounds like a fun adventure to play through.
It really is cool how the expansions are both modular and future proof. If I see one that interests me I don't have to make sure it's for a given edition.

Awesome to listen to the people who create these games. It's cool to hear their thought process and how they come up with those idea..and the red king expansion sounds particularly wild..using a string to divide up the board and there are different rules depending on what side you are on because reality is twisting sounds pretty freaking cool lol.

I have to echo so many prior sentiments in that it is commendable that they are going out of their way to make sure everything old is compatible instead of just saying "Sorry about your luck, buy the new stuff".
