Church dates from the 12th century, arcade from early 13th century. Restored by Lancaster architects Paley and Austin in 1878-79. They rebuilt the north aisle on its old foundations and opened up the blocked medieval arcade. The doorway is Norman and is late 12th century. There's a 14th century effigy of a priest. The glass box inside contains the head of a 13th century corbel. The font is Norman on a 19th century base and the cover was made in 1636 during the reign of King Charles 1st. The wast window has fragments of 14th century glass. Multiple apotropaic (witch marks) on the outside. A lovely surprise here and very well worth the visit.
