      They were supposed to be a couple in the original draft but it was changed so Sharpay could have a crush on Troy and have more reason to be jealous of Gabriella. It's a little hard to notice the change without that specific line as they are trying out for the ROMANTIC leads in the musical anyway. But I guess they thought, "It's just acting so it's not weird." But it's still weird.

But seriously I guess he was really charming. I tricked him though. I just wasnt born till after he was done killing people and I out smarted him by being a guy.

      I mean, Zac Efron's wanted to play Troy as a serial killer for basically years. A movie version of Death Note had been in development hell for years, with Zac Efron as the star. It was one of the first projects he wanted to do after getting away from the claws of the mouse. And you can kind of see how Troy Bolton fits into Light Yagami's character: an outwardly charming and handsome young man whose unthreatening presence hides a dark secret. Like ScarJo in Ghost In The Shell (2017), it's good casting if you ignore gigantic whitewashed elephant in the room.
      Unfortunately, Efron got far too old to play Light Yagami, but he still wanted to play the role. So, he settles for Ted Bundy.

    I was in kindergarten when this film came out, and I can certainly say that while I still like the music and am thankful for it getting me interested in playing basketball during Phys Ed, nowadays I mostly view HSM as a misleading look at high school - especially in regards to the ending song "We're All in This Together".
    While the message is uplifting for the most part, it's fake because high school is a giant race to see which student is better, so the idea of overcoming social barriers to become a unified group is virtually impossible due to our current education system being designed to determine which students are better.

A cool boy and a sweet girl meet during the holiday, suddenly they are in the same school, the boy tries to show of his cool, disappoints the girl and at the end they are happy after all. Only the difference is: This movie tells us that we should never have hobbies and only stick to the status quo and be who we suppose to be, never try something new etc., like dancing, baking, playing instruments etc.
    And let's not forget the Sesame Street version of this movie named "Pre-School Musical". And lets not forget that Zac Efron's singing voice was mixed with some other guy for the movie, therefore another guy was playing Troy in the live shows.

      @TheRealNormanBates 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      luv4hutch I think PC Principal was a lame attempt to address how critics commented on how OTT the show has gotten since the beginning (which is saying something) while still doing the same boring shit.
      At the same time, while I feel they’ve “sold out”, I think they realize this and have just gone for broke, and don’t care if the show gets cancelled for how stupid it gets.
      Anyone remember the Ass Burgers 2 parter? You know... the one where they may as well have told the audience they were ready to quit the show and “make a left turn” to see what else they could do... but then ended it with Sharon saying: “sometimes you just got to stick with what you know”... and it infers that Stan (one of the author avatars) was becoming an alcoholic at 10?
      So yeah... I think most (not all) of the SP shows starting with PCP have been super lame and it’s obvious that Matt and Trey are sitting on a beach, earning 20%, while the manatees do most of the writing... and I think they know this.
      I believe that they realize that they’ve had a fantastic run with over 15 seasons of SP, they’re worth @ $100 million and they _could_ end SP whenever they want to... but why not say “fuck it”, sell out, get lazy, do whatever the fuck stupid lame political shit they want, because if SP crashes and burns they’ve made their mark... as well as another $100 million.

    • @luv4hutch
      @luv4hutch 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRealNormanBates So, you personally feel that Ass Burgers should've been the end, or at least led to an arc that culminated in the end, of the series? Ending with Sharon and Randy divorcing and Stan moving away from South Park, and Kyle and Cartman being friends and business partners? Or something along those lines? I won't lie, it does sound like something that could definitely have given the series a surprisingly emotional resonance.
      While current South Park isn't as insufferable as current Family Guy is (where absolutely everything and everyone is unlikable and unsympathetic), it is also surprising that for all the ways Matt and Trey have always belittled Seth McFarlane, he is also curiously better equipped to actually engaged and handle the world at large (he doesn't write or do anything creative for Family Guy anymore, and hasn't in years, and he's said many times the show should've ended years ago and he wanted to move on, but Fox wouldn't let him, and now Disney won't, either), because he isn't a misanthropic cynic.
      In many ways, Matt and Trey represent trying to live like BoJack Horseman (at his worst), Rick Sanchez or Gregory House in real life and taking their way of thinking as gospel, even though the shows' writers have made it clear that you're not supposed to. You want to see if it's possible for BoJack to find peace and meaning, amid all the ruins of his life (plus the show is handling all the hot button cultural topics in a far superior manner than South Park currently is), and while you don't want Rick or House to change and stop being who they are, you also don't consider them the arbiter of moral judgment and possessing the meaning of life. You know that Morty, Wilson and the like have very important points that Rick and House should learn and accept, but you realize they never will, which really establishes these characters.
      In addition, it feels like Matt and Trey have tended to think of themselves as the heirs apparent to Howard Stern and his shtick, especially his crusades for freedom of speech against the FCC and those who criticized him. They also tended to absorb his penchant for moralizing on his show and on the pages of his book, and basically molded themselves as such. It especially shows in their both sideserism (that really only skewers those left of center), casting the firebrand extremists and bullies weaponizing the movements to their own needs as representative of the movements as a whole, and messages that caring is "gay" and apathy and being left alone is true freedom. But Howard Stern has mellowed out with age, and also become a visibly happier man. He knows that he no longer is the standard for rebellion, and basically knew as soon as he moved to satellite radio that he was untouchable now, so he has simply decided to relax and enjoy it. He's also definitely not a cynic in this day and age, and has even shown a warmer side of himself. Basically, Howard has learned to age gracefully (in his own manner), while Matt and Trey, besides "selling out" like you feel, want to double down on their message, even though, with how fucked up our world is today, it's more important than ever to care and engage in the activism and moves for change that they roundly attack. In short, the world is in a state that needs bold action, but Matt and Trey are content to sit back and watch the world burn, because they know that they can "get the lulz" out of it.

    • @TheRealNormanBates
      @TheRealNormanBates 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      luv4hutch It’s not that I think ASS BURGERS _should_ have been the end of SOUTH PARK... it’s that I believe Matt and Trey were telling/hinting to those fans who weren’t complete idiots that they were seriously considering “packing it in” and going their separate ways (ie Sharon and Randy divorcing and _moving away_ from South Park)
      Jesus man, just read the post. Don’t assume anything and just read it.

    turns 15 today!
    I missed the premiere on TV
    But got the dvd later
    Who knew it would turn into such a phenomenon with merchandise, concert tours, ice shows and theme parks?
    Musicals did die out for a while but this and movies like Chicago brought them back into the foray
    Director Kenny Ortega only did a few episodes of ally Mcbeal and Gilmore girls before this movie
    Catchy songs, bright colors, some new upcoming actors who's careers got launched thanks to this series
    I'll always be a Vanessa Hudgens fan for life
    The soundtrack was the best selling album that year and it received the highest tv ratings in history
    The movie is also a great message about standing out, not sticking to the status quo, and reminding us all we're all in this together, satirizes that mindset even if it is unrealistic
    A person no matter what clique or social group can have more than 1 talent that defines them
    Breaking free from your social constraints isn't a bad thing
    Yes these characters are stereotypes and they're one dimensional but it doesn't mean they're bad actors
    It's a more squeaky clean version of high school
    The movie succeeded enough to inspire two sequels, a spin-off series on Disney +, theater productions, and self made videos on TH-cam
    All 3 movies made over $4 billon in retail sales
    It's interesting too that even though tweens love it there are a secret number of adult fans as well
    It's like the grease for the generation during the early 2000s

    Whenever I think about High School Musical I remember that time in elementary school in which we went to a once act musical at another nearby school. I’m guessing it was written by kids our age (at the time) because the plot was essentially The Amazing Race but it was with siblings and they were all like 9. The “evil” kid was obsessed with High School Musical and wanted to be referred to as Sharpay but the running joke was everyone called her Sharpie. All in all it was pretty unremarkable. Then there was a gentle song where the lights turned down and the chorus had candles and hummed while the protagonists sung. You know what happened next?
    A girls hair caught on fire. She was a background singer and screamed causing the other singers to try to help her, one boy accidentally made it ignite even more.
    The musical stopped for like ten minutes while adults took the girl on fire off stage and it eventually resumed, the girl was fine but she didn’t return.
    So that’s what I always think of when I hear High School Musical, the smell of burning hair and someone in the back of the theater laughing.
