There could have been a small building on an island. A food store? The island could have been built up (with turf) to accommodate it. A turf shed that wouldnt last long but perhaps often renewed, particularly if it stored something smelly. I'm basing this suggestion on knowing turf was often used to built an extension to houses for overwintering animals and then the smelly peat burnt come spring. Plus, how common crannogs were on Scottish West Coast. Those I know are in fresh water. Some tiny, not suited to placing human habitation on and likely more recent than the crannog farms surmised about from a couple of millennia ago. The shore and tide line, the islands, as you said in video, may have looked a lot different. Not unusual for water courses to change.
I think the shore line would be quite different now to back then in the early 1900's. Tie a couple of the logs together on an old palate and pull along the water edge with a decent rope from shore. Its an easy decision fence off the area nearest your house so the sheep don't poop there, its not as if they hav'nt got anywhere else to graze as they have plenty. Your food supply and growing veggies is important and comes 1st. Take care 💕🇦🇺

If you're going to grow sweet corn, you need a much bigger garden. Cut your wood and pull it back to the house on a sledge. Easy to make one and very useful for hauling anything. Groceries, wood, coal, fuel, water, stone, seaweed etc. Easier to use than the wheel barrow. Scott, you can be Capt. Cook! I don't think he went anywhere near the Hebrides, but I wouldn't swear to anything! Meeting a stag would be fun. Beats a bear or a moose.

Another great video, my grandfather was from the Hebrides, came to Canada after WWII, we use to love to listen to him speak Gaelic, and he often called fern bracken. Also your new microphones are doing their job.
When you were pulling the leaves out of the water spring. Why not put a piece of chicken wire over it to stop leaves and stuff falling in. That would be easier to clean and putting your hands into the water

Definitely try floating the logs round, behind a dinghy or just walked back on a long rope. Choose the appropriate tides to work with you though (coming in, not going out😉). Good luck🙂🌸

That sheep poop is good fertilizer. I'd save it up for the garden this spring. It already comes in nice manageable pieces to cast about. Seaweed is a convenient slug and snail deterrent, I must try it for we have an ample amount living on the Northern California coast. Is it the sodium content that does the trick? The madness could be due to island fever.
Love you idea about the wildflower meadow. That would look amazing and is very beneficial for insects. You mentioned that you didn’t have a boat…i thought that you live on an island. Don’t you need one to go to the mainland?
I am told that snails and deer do not like the smell of sheep's wool. But if it is very wet and the smell is not released, the snails can take shelter under the wool. Maybe something to try
That would be a good option, especially with the drop-bow section. I mentioned the dory because I see so many of them lying decaying everywhere, so maybe very cheap. They are heavy, and if the foam inner is soaking wet, heavier still...but almost indestructible! Anyway, I do so hope you find a suitable craft soon as it will make life much easier! Think you are right. in that the dark line is the high water mark of average spring tide and light line is the low water mark. and it just shows what is visible at high water mark. the way to check is see if there is a circular rock on the island to the right.
Do you eat the just opening heads of the Bracken? Fiddleheads my friend in Maine, USA calls them, lightly boiled and served with salted butter. They taste like asparagus. But I think you'd need to be sure the species was edible first. Jo in France 🇫🇷
Wood floats. You could tie the pieces of wood into a log boom and tow it back with the row boat. Bigger pieces would be better and you can cut it when you get to the home beach

Can’t you take the log round in the kayaks? So interesting the conclusion of the building on the island. Makes sense though for sure. The microphones worked so well no wind noise at all. Do they work with your phone camera or do you use a camera with them? Loving the videos x

why not make a raft out of a couple of wooden pallets, get a pair of chest waders, load the raft with the logs and tow them round to the cottage on a suitable tide
Maybe your sheep would like a radio playing somewhere that doesn’t involve your walkway? Just a thought. Although I’m guessing if they hear your voices, they're going to gravitate back to your voices.
Add that sheep shit to your gardens it's great stuff. Also the leaves 🍃 drag them back and pile up in a compost heep. As for the island insanity, its the wee folk whispering in the wind, loosing the stays of societal expectations.

I wouldn’t put glass on that old water tank for a coffee table, it doesn’t need glass-looks great as a coffee table as it is.
Might want to look into a log spliter. Then you could transfer smaller bits

If you have two kayaks, create a bit of a net between the two and float the wood around.
And at one point lumber was rafted down both the Mississippi, & the Missouri. They are still harvesting lumber from both rivers
chop that wood in place use an old bed sheet to load wood into 1 at the front 1 at the back easier than a wheel barrow on that terrain i would think
Here in Alaska, we live next to the ocean. When we harvest seaweed for our compost, we rinse the salt out of it.... do you do that also?

We are looking into potentially having to put a damp-proof membrane all along the front of the house, digging it down into the ground.
