Hawkins Cheung - Wing Chun Distance Fighting Kicking
Distance fighting puts you in kicking range. A timed response is required quickly going from stationary to moving and starting when the opponent starts. Again the power comes from the body moving in while maintaining structure. The timing is necessary for power and you have to reach your target before your opponent reaches his target in order to survive. In order to catch the timing you need to train for timing in addition to regular Wing Chun training.
There is no more "real" and skillful sifu than Hawkins Cheung. He is a force of nature that I have had the honor of studying under for many years. I continue to learn the most invaluable lessons from this master, and will be his dedicated student for the rest of my life, dedicating my practice and whatever skill I have been lucky enough to pick up to him. Thank You, Sifu.
Cheung Sifu, you might not claim to be one of the best, but you are one of the best.
One of the best pieces of advice I ever learned was from Traditional Wing Chun...always close the distance and attack your opponent's center-line. Never give up your center-line.
TWC is a beautiful and powerful art. Most have no idea. Most have a Hollywood image of Modified Wing Chun or some hybrid-version of it, burned into their heads.
TWC is an ambidextrous gate. It can open or close from either side. It flows forward naturally & with power. It both attacks and defends, at the same time.
Its all about being alert, realistic and sensible. Its a street fight.
I think Sifu Cheung makes perfect sense. Thank you.
Excellent video, I am a kicker myself and I admire this sifu's work against kicks.
Excellent advice and great show of the sil lum tao form at it's best, specially for those who doubt the forms have any meaning. Great and authentic master and trainer. More! Please !
Awesome video !! Learned a lot thanks !!! I have always heard that Wing Chun teaches how to deal with a bigger opponent, but this is the first time I have seen it being applied. Thanks !!
6:57 Hawkins rebounded that kick like a boss.
Very realistic!!!!! this is a good example for instructors and teachers of any martial art
Sifu Chung thanks for your time and knowledge that you provide. Muchas gracias

Impressive. I couldnt understand much of what he said but what I understood was worth study
Simple blunt and to the point direct interception definitely real concepts from twc
I learnt from this. great vid. thank you
Very interesting concept. Thank you.
Excellent explanation
Sound Wing Chun advice, from first principles
The only problem is he seems to have a problem explaining his ideas, you know, putting them into English in an explanation that we, as beginners, can understand. That seems to be a problem among Chinese teachers. The two languages are SO different, that sometimes a teacher has a hard time finding the words, or coming up with the idea he needs to describe whatever he is doing concisely and accurately.
That guy is 70 and I am scared of him.
Interesting ! Very good stuff ! Thanks !
This guy is like a kung fu character
