This guy had an edge like a kick ass guitar player while the skill of a keyboard nerd but not so white bread. And most of all, mikes intro displays what a great sense of humor he brought into the band!
Now i see the atmosphere of this concert and others of Falling Into Infinity era, and can agree that was a difficult moment of their career. You can see that they look having fun playing but at that moment (in Portnoy's words) they were about to split... a sort of tension is in the air. I think that Rudess in Metropolis Part II saves Dream Theater (although that i don't like the way that they follow later).
Wtf, even Stevie wonder could see that he kicked that solo in the ass, put his own spin on it while also stayed true to what made the original special to boot!
