I considered a vintage jack for my D28cw because i didn't want to alter the originality. Eventually, i realized that for modern guitars, it's not considered heresy to add a pickup as it is on a vintage or prewar martin. I also didn't want to deal with the adapter issues you mentioned. I think adding a pickup to most modern guitar is actually a plus for most buyers.
