I've been doing things to guitars, even ground~up builds, since about... LOL... without dating meself... about 1980, or so? 😮 I found this Tom DeLonge at an open air market, totally covered in stickers! Even the back of neck & fretboard! Crazy... no one even saw I was a strat, got if for $60US. Seafoam Green, totally natural relicing under all the graffiti! I did the opposite as you~ made it into a regular 3 pickup strat, but a hardtail bridge, i left that. Totally looks like a late 60's model but left "Squire STRATOCASTER" on headstock. Neck is fabulous, where body is missing paint, looks like ash wood. Weight is light, nice tone unplugged. Used 3 early 80's Fender Japan pickups, sound great. What blew my mind is when removing orig PG & seeing this long square route, for pickup and one volume pot! ??? I had to route all the rest out. These are really underrated guitars, harder to find now. I think your reverance of & reproing it, is uber~cool idea! 🆗🎸🎶🆒🎼😎
Awesome man! This is the only viable way to do it nowadays, fuck paying £2k for a beat up Mexican Strat lol. Squier have just released a single humbucker hardtail Strat in Surf Green with a pearloid pickguard. Tempted to pick one up and chuck an Invader in it to create a TD of my own 😊
9:09 Will get mine in a week. 220$ for the brand New guitar, a foam green one 😀. 160$ for the pick up. My friend will modify her Damn... Christmas was going to sucks but now... i am happy dude! That will be my 1st guitar... at 56...
Sorry to peck again man, might sound stupid and I can’t find answers online but I’m having a nightmare attaching the volume pot to the pickguard, either the volume knob sticks out too much, or if I slightly over turn the knob it becomes lose, hit a brick wall here and it shouldn’t be this hard haha
I would buy a short shaft volume pot. Mine sticks out a little but it doesn't bug me too much. Double check your washers and locking nut on your pot shaft. It shouldn't be spinning if tightened properly
im currently making my own tom delonge strat, when wiring it up is it literally just the humbucker going into the volume knob? I'm using my old wires which have two tone knobs attached and a pick up selector, should I remove all this so its just the one volume knob? hope this makes sense
I’m guessing you’re just adding an invader to a stock wiring system? For what it’s worth I’d remove it all and get a new 500k volume pot and wire it up from scratch. It was really easy mate 🤘 www.seymourduncan.com/images/wiring-diagrams/1H_1V.jpg
Hi I’m wanting to build my own Tom Delonge Stratocaster and I was wondering where you got the pick guard? as I can only find them for £40 also great build and video no one has given as much information about how they built so thanks 🔥
Thanks very much mate. My pick guard was from eBay. It lets my build down because the pickup cutout is square and not rounded. Unfortunately the delonge style official fender pick guard is really hard to get in the uk. Lifted works make a good one if you can wait a couple of weeks www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-AGED-WHITE-PEARLOID-Pickguard-for-Tom-Delonge-Fender-Strat-/265299648097?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
wait you can't just swap a 22 fret neck with a 21 fret one! you're going to have intonation problems!! what's the scale length now?? *Edit* ignore me. I'm wrong!

Too much gain on the amp
I think he's just using the headphone/Di out of an amp or an amp sim with no IR. But either way the guitar is sick
Way too much gain, bad eq and intonation is way off.... We can try to excuse this all we want but at least try to be honest.
Multiple times you say your not gonna sell it.
But when you have passed away, it will find its way on the market.
Just for you I will put it in my will that it is to be buried with me
@@chrisyoubeauty hahahaha this guy. nice job on the guitar mate.

I’ve done it! Sounds good for a fraction of the price.
tom never had a blue one but still cool
I love this strat in blue! Honestly better color than all the others!
Couldn’t agree more. I know the standard was pretty much surf green but for me it’s always been daphne blue

Not hating looks good but your playing left hand with a left body and right neck, the video shows you put together a right body with a right neck??

@@chrisyoubeauty thank you 👍
nice are u going to make one same colour as your logo at somepoint
Now that an idea!!
nice

The 22nd fret on the old neck overhung the neck pocket so the scale length hasn’t changed bud
@@chrisyoubeauty wow...I'm pretty embarrassed! I didn't think it was that straight forward - thanks for the reply cheers
@@vav413 haha no worries man! It was a valid concern 😁
