      Axios .king diverse in this case means a non-white cast, so yeah, movies like black panther and crazy rich Asians ARE diverse

      it _is_ odd to use term diverse indeed tbf. It should said 'an all asian cast finally (in Hollywood)'. Idk, there's plenty of other words and quotes to put but 'diverse', that here just looks absurd and even distracting as it clearly isn't.

      I have ultra-low expectation for this movie to begin with, it is still managed to "exceed my expectations" :). There is a reason why nobody in China is watching it and with unusually low Douban Rating. In comparison to any other Chinese movies, or even Antman released in the same week.
      It's like *certain group of people try to stereotype Asians, this fit perfectly to their taste, make them call Chinese Food lol(American Chinese food, Couching tiger, Hiding Dragon, Gangnam Style ...). Don't expect a real good Asian movie to be popular in America - just have this mind set, then you have zero expectation you will feel much better, (as long as *certain group of people with *certain agenda dominate).
      :)

    I liked the movie because the writing was good not just because of it's all Asian cast. It went beyond just being a rom com and dove into Asian family values and culture

      leotube39 your right it doesn’t represent all Asians but there is a big difference between the values of Asian Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, etc) than western culture. So while Chinese core was a focus in this movie it’s the ideas, values, ethnicity represented by the cast that I referenced. However, you’re right and over generalisations is what can lead to unintended racism/bias. Will reflect more on my choice of words in future. 🙂

      I do agree that Chinese is NOT all Asian but you have to understand that majority of Asian share many of the same values of the Chinese. The majority of the cast are East Asian across the board with only few ethnic Chinese. Its was a great cast and the movie came out very well.

    I saw the movie tonight. Loved it! I’m Caucasian (shouldn’t matter) and what I saw tonight was a fun, romantic, funny movie with wonderful characters. There was music in Chinese - didn’t care (in fact enjoyed it ). The were occasional subtitles - didn't care. The movie was an all Asian cast - didn’t care. What I did care about was that the movie I was watching had a great story, something that touched the heart, great film making, characters I could indentffy with cause who can’t identify with love, family, and being an outsider at some point in their lives? I’m very happy that the movie is doing well ‘cause maybe that’s a sign others don’t care either.

    I watch a bunch of Korean and Chinese shows so the hype around an All Asian Cast makes me think duuuuuuur since it's not anything new to me. Crazy Rich Asians was really an amazing movies with incredible actors that played their role flawlessly. So many moments during the movie got me teary eyed emotional and other moments had me bustin a gut laughing.

    • @zy5992
      @zy5992 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @leotube39 Crazy Rich Asians does not copy any Korean drama. It is based off a book written by Kevin Kwan, and the book is based on the old money families in Asia, namely Singapore and Hong Kong. Secondly, Chinese actors do not copy Korean actors, nor do they copy the dramas. And of course, Chinese don't copy the looks of Koreans; most Asians have the same facial structure. Since Chinese copying Koreans seems to be a big issue for you, may I remind you that more than 50 percent of all Korean vocabulary is derived from Chinese loanwords, a reflection of the cultural dominance of China over 2 millennia.

    • @JessT2K7
      @JessT2K7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Although I do enjoy them, I feel Korean and Chinese shows dont necessarily reflect the East Asians who grew up in the West. Its less seeing an all Asian cast for me but its more meaningful just to finally see a group of Asians that reflect my day-to-day (conversing in English, using occassional phrases in mother tongue, relatable humour, etc) Most of the Hollywood studios thought it would be fine to cast Rachel as a white girl since the rest of the cast is Asian but her Asian-American self is the character us first gens connect with the most.

    • @zy5992
      @zy5992 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @leotube39 Maybe it's not really centred on copying, it is APPRECIATION. I don't watch a lot of dramas as I find some of them quite tasteless, but one of the best is a historical Chinese drama, which is something I find could never be more of a difference from my other favourite historical Korean dramas. Korea is a lovely place, and is also the central beauty hub in the world. And personally, as long as the people look good and are happy and confident in them, I don't care. Fashion is universal and is never defined by forgettable trends: I know many people with unique, beautiful style from both China and Korea.

    • @zy5992
      @zy5992 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @leotube39 I think it's quite prejudiced to think all Chinese have no unique style, and that the 'Korean way' is the 'superior' way. Anyway, aren't Chinese more westernised than anything else? Perhaps there's a cultural gap, but those I've seen is very different from what you have seen.

    I'm so glad this movie uses actual Asians to play the role specially with this name instead of Scarlett Johansson or Tilda Swinton.

    • @jlhabitan50
      @jlhabitan50 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the case of Scarlet Johansson in ghost in the Shell, I have this understanding that because it was a cyborg, the main character was made to be ethnically ambiguous uppn getting her human skin. Even the anime movie's creator appeoved of her casting.
      With that said, Attack on Titan's live action film have Japanese actors playing roles that bear European sounding names. By the logic we had with Scarlett, should AOT characters be played by European/American actors to be accurate?

      ChowDownDetroit [Seoung Lee] I believe that was directed by an american. I am not sure what standards were used to determine that joy luck club was the most recent movie with an all asian cast.

    It’s never bother us when a good movie comes along because It’s not us who are racist. The Joy Luck Club is in my top ten for movies, because it was written perfectly, it was acted perfectly. Perfect movie.

      @@MrApples9999 over in the west Indians are separate from Asian continent and idk why. Ask the white people. And like I said, indians had Life of pi and slumdog millionaire and the rest of Asia we don't get anything. In Hollywood I don't see Asian American actors on big Hollywood movies as the main lead and not as a Kung Fu master or side character who's a nerd

    :)
    America, please, just don't make movies about Asian -- WE DON'T BLAME YOU, same as we don't blame you ban latest Huawei and ZTE 5G equipments for *certain reasons, or call Huawei copies when Huawei deployed world first two camera phone.
