I am an Asian European and I think that so many Asians has waited for this moment. No matter if the film will flop or be a success I just hope this will cause a flood of Asian representation in movies/series/tv shows in the future to come!
@Ax Martel he said he's Asian European not only European like Chinese American!!!! I disagree with you..you will never be Chinese but if you are born in China you will think as Chinese more than European because you will spend your life there..your friends and colleagues will be Chinese and you will probably marry to a Chinese like most of my cousins and I did.. so since you are not an immigrant kid don't talk about something that you don't know!
Being white, I went to see this film today. Hoping I could learn more about the Asian culture. This film was more than that, it was an important lesson for all that are in the business or those aspiring to be in the business. It's not the location, it's not the ethnicity. What will and has made this film successful so far is the universal need for acceptance, no matter the race. This film wraps up this universal theme in an Asian land, but the story can be told anywhere, with anyone. And that's the point. Good stories are universal, they speak to us all - Crazy Rich Asians does that and more. Go see this film.
Kristopher K ❤️❤️ Can’t wait to watch it this week. It’s screening in Malaysia from 22nd August. Proud of my fellow Malaysian actors Michelle and Henry. Also to the rest of the casts....
why do you have to start with "Being white". what does it matter. you trying too hard. forget the race thing. Your last line is what really matters. "Good stories are universal, they speak to us all - Crazy Rich Asians does that and more."
zacktam big facts it was good that he was like there’s more than the movie but I feel like the Asian ethnicity was very important to there not a lot of movies that focus on Asians this movie also shows how theres diversity in film industry so u shouldn’t just say that u just sound like some racist white kid that’s jealous over the success of the movie smh
Clarke.and.Coffee Fantastic measure of success. People from all these DIFFERENT countries, cultures, ethnicities, races ceding their actual diversity for the Asian label. Remind me of all the Europeans immigrating to the US now they are all just called "white".
It is odd that such a term is now used so often to apply to so many people. And seeing the "what's your ethnicity" question on tests tickles weird sometimes. As for Asians ceding to the label, what's wrong with that? No recognition or some recognition for a film where multiple attempts were made to change the lead character to a non-asian face to "appeal to an American audience". Small stepping stones in Hollywood. This is a video attempting to reach a wider audience than exclusive groups. They could have listed every nationality in the title, but it'd be huge. And one does not have to be Chinese as the character's role to understand the film's themes of identity and family really. I went to see the film and it's a fun romcom with additional themes threaded throughout. Not perfect, but fun.
@@OhayoMacchiato Think of it in terms of the negative stigma of "white pride". A diverse accumulation of European descendants took on this label and now they are shamed for even mentioning wanting to be proud of it. It's a Hollywood movie and Hollywood movies regardless of who is in it find their way into international theaters anyway, setting box office records of international viewership. If we wanted to support diversity, we would promote foreign-sponsored and produced films, not the patching together of "people who we can't tell apart" ascending in the Anglophone hegemony.
Gemma chan is exactly how I imagined astrid would sound and looks like in my head while reading the book. I haven't watch the movie yet so I should go and hurry watch

As an asian growing up in the Bay Area around all kinds of asians from Japanese, Chinese, Indians, Filipinos, Koreans, Vietnamese, hapas, etc... and even those that immigrated from the UK and Australia, I am proud and happy to see that the cast is as diverse as possible within the context of the script. There's more to come for more stories to be told that can get as granular as possible. Hopefully we'll be witnessing and playing a part in this multi-dimensional narrative. And damn Gemma Chan is Queen Bae and Chris Pang represent!
The cast is not "diverse". If you've noticed, they're all chinese from diff countries with some exception. They should retitle the movie as Crazy Rich Chinese. It's more appropriate that way.

I loveeeeee this. Idk but this video just brings positivity. Thank you for interviewing the rest of the non-main-casts as well. Ive been on youtube and all the recommended videos are just about the main casts. I mean the rest of them made the movie great also and she should be more involved in the interviews i think? O h and btw how this interview showed their variety of background, accent, culture, i loveeeee it. Thank you again.
Gemma's dad - breaks my heart every time I hear that! Well Sir, I hope you see lots more faces like yours and your beautiful daughters - there is so much talent in this movie, and Gemma's role in Humans was phenomenal!
The words of these people are so true and relevant to Asian American lives. We face prejudice and racial hardships on an everyday basis. But with the release of this movie, Asians, and minorities in general, can finally receive the same treatment as other people. The movie is honestly inspiring and I praise the work of these people.
Thanks, Los Angeles Times for this interview. This is one of the better interviews of the cast, writer, and director. I loved the movie and thank the author, director, and the cast of fine actors. I so appreciate this.
Constance Wu is the BEST! Everyone i know was expecting to see another “Jessica Huang” like character from her, but we all loved her as Rachael instead...what a wonderful character actress!
Being a Filipino American, born in the Philippines, grew up in Tokyo for my first ten years and back to the Philippines until I finished medical school, identity was never a problem to me. I saw Japanese actors on TV on NHK, Filipino actors in movies and TV, having the Filipino channel in my house in Indiana seeing Filipino films day in and day out, and American films on weekend being Asian american is a non issue being a first generation American. My identity as citizen of the world was ingrained in my DNA from birth because I have a half Filipino half Chinese father who was a lawyer and a diplomat, a mother who was a pharmacist from a prominent political family in the Philippines, having international classmates from the get go(kindergarten), I was acutely aware that people were diverse and proud of who they were and where they came from. Interned in New York and trained in the deep south, I did occasionally encountered racism but I will just raise my eyebrow and pity them and think how unfortunate they are for creating a small world for themselves instead of embracing the diversity of our world, different cultures, races, traditions and belief systems. At the end of the day we are all human who love and get hurt, who reaches for the stars with our own dreams and aspirations and yet remain accepting of who we are. I saw the movie. I love the fact that Kris Aquino was Princess Intan. Very classy, very intelligent actress in the Philippines. Born Kristina Bernadette Cojuanco Aquino, she is the youngest daughter of the late Philippine President Corazon Aquino and the slain Philippine senator Benigno Aquino and sister to former President Benigno S. Aquino III.I hope she gets more roles from Hollywood as the current administration has exerted efforts on the Philippine entertainment industry to close doors on her for political reasons.
I too come from a multicultural background, grew up in 3 cultures, & speak multiple languages. We may not struggle with cultural identity, & can glide smoothly across different worlds, but there are many Asian Americans (or Asian Australians, BBC or CBC) who never felt seen or represented. This movie means a lot to them & I'm happy they finally got what their souls craved. Selamat po for the background information on Kris Aquino, even though it was just a cameo.
They did not close the doors on her though, she left abs after her brother’s term because of the plane scandal. She has every right to come back to showbiz. She even had a new movie. Lol
Cool. I'm a mostly white American with a little Native American around the edges but not enough to really stand out. I checked out Bruce Lee, Tai Chi, Kung (Gung, Gong) Fu and just dug into Chinese culture more so a few years back. I'd like to go see the film soon. I'm also aware that the treatment of the Chinese by the USA was pretty bad. Glad this film will help open some eyes as well as give a voice to those who grew up as this being their culture/family/traditions. 🙏❤️☯️❤️🙏
This movie is one of my favorites and I’ve seen it three times. Every time with my best friend. He was so excited to see people who looked like him on the big screen. When he moved to the Americas he was jarred to not see asians on the big screen. This year, this man has been so excited for two movies. This one and love Simon. It’s an amazing movie and it made me emotional to see this movie all three time, not just because the important representation, but because how excited someone I loved was and how this year is his absolute favorite year for representation. His boyfriend was just as excited to see this movie and was excited to see it the three times he made us. It’s a great movie! . I definitely plan on buying it when it comes out on dvd
so refreshing to see an all-Asian cast in a Hollywood movie in English! I hope there will be more in the future! This film was really good and well thought-out.
This movie really resonated with me. I was born in Canada but my parents came from China. I have never been more eager to go see a movie and feel that this makes being Asian kind of neat. At least until the next “ pro diversity” movie event comes around!
I was just as emotional about this movie as I was about Black Panther. This is the beginning and i pray it only opens doors for more. We live in a diverse world and our movies should reflect that too.
i see this film as the first step is it a great film or an awards contender ??NO but its a small step to show the world that asians are'nt just the best friend, nerd, martial artist they can just be allowed to be real down to earth characters with real everyday struggles who just happen to be asian thats what i call progress
Seeing how much this movie means to the actors and actresses just reminds me of how much it means to me. I am an proud Asian American who up until high school, never actually realized that I wasn't represented in the media in a a full capacity, the only people I ever looked like were the sidekick or the nerdy friend. I was never a main character. I don't think I actually realized that this literally affected how I acted up until recently. I've never had a person on the big screen like me and it was just so meaningful to be able to watch this movie and see people who look like me and have traditions like me.
I loved this movie. My boys loved the movie and they are 8 and 12! It was beautifully written. The actors messages were poignant, we do need more movies like this in American culture. Embracing all cultures to show the world for what it is, diverse. The movie was intriguing, funny, cinematically beautiful, the wedding scene was the most amazing wedding scene I’ve ever seen. The message of acceptance despite cultural boundaries. I hope it wins awards. It was just hands down a wonderful movie.
I'm so proud of this movie as it really reflects how much Asians all over the world wants this to happen! My tears keep flowing when at the end Eleanor played by Michelle Yeoh was the one that made this movie what it is, his embodiment of the "Asian values" that only we know is part of our culture..the remaining cast are all amazing!! I will have to watch it again and again for sure

The three of them are special in their own way and many people don't care about the ethnicity of the cast..my crush is terrence Howard and he's Chinese/Italian and not so fit either ah ah
OMG. you guys seriously got me all emotional.
"It doesn't matter how good you are or how talented you are,how many faces do you see in the screen that looks like ours?" shit. that made me cry a little bit. the power of representation man...
their stories resonate so well, and I love this movie so much
Gemma Chan is so elegant! Her voice is like silk
I love Astrid! Really like someone i wanna be when i grow up! AND HER ACCENT OMG I'M IN LOVE
Gemma's dad - breaks my heart every time I hear that! Well Sir, I hope you see lots more faces like yours and your beautiful daughters - there is so much talent in this movie, and Gemma's role in Humans was phenomenal!
A huge plus that the film itself is magnificent. I watched it twice and enjoyed it thoroughly. Props to the cast and crew.
Gemma`s voice can melt me in one second
The words of these people are so true and relevant to Asian American lives. We face prejudice and racial hardships on an everyday basis. But with the release of this movie, Asians, and minorities in general, can finally receive the same treatment as other people. The movie is honestly inspiring and I praise the work of these people.
Loved Gemma Chan since Sherlock. So glad to see more of her.
Thanks, Los Angeles Times for this interview. This is one of the better interviews of the cast, writer, and director. I loved the movie and thank the author, director, and the cast of fine actors. I so appreciate this.
Omg Chris Pang that plays Colin is from Melbourne? Me too ahhhh so proud of you. Your movie sold out in cinemas of victoria
THIS MADE ME CRY. THANK YOU! I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PROUD TO BE ASIAN, BUT NOW IM EVEN MORE PROUD!
Thank you so much @LATimesEnt for sharing with us their stories, their stories inform us all of ours.
Constance Wu is the BEST! Everyone i know was expecting to see another “Jessica Huang” like character from her, but we all loved her as Rachael instead...what a wonderful character actress!
Must be the smartest cast ever assembled! So many law and med grads! Truly an Asian thing.
gemma chan! im your all time fans for sure. she is stunning perfected with her voice omg. Love from Indonesia
being puerto rican, I am so proud of my asian brothers and sisters making a fantastic movie. that wedding scene had me floored!
Gemma Chan … Talk about drop dead beautiful!
I hope this is more of an indication that we need more stories like this. :) I want more stories like this.
I cant wait anymore!!!!!! Its 20 more hours to go.... argh! I be in the movie house to watch these Asians first hour tomorrow morning!
LOVE Sonoya Mizuno's short haircut!
ken jeong will forever amaze me: an MD AND an actor. like, wow.
Gemma Chan!!! This woman is elegance personified 😍
This literally made me so emotional. The movie is phenomenal.
God Bless the Asian Union (A.U.)
KUMUSTA
Robin the correct term is "KAMUSTA" and the correct reply is "MABUTI, SALAMAT" which means I'm well, thanks.
Lol
Love how Constance and I are form the same city!! RICHMOND VA LOVE YOU CW XOXO❤️❤️
So proud of everyone in this film!
Just amazing! Crazy Rich Asians was fantastic and the theater was packed on opening day when I saw it.
Gemma Chan is so classy and elegant.
🙏❤️☯️❤️🙏
The way the world is going, this movie could be the peak of Asian representation in Hollywood
I could listen to the Gemma chan talking to the end of time. the woman is such a class act
IM FROM IPOH MALAYSIA TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO PROUD HAHAHAHA
Gemma Chan thooooooooooooough!!!!😍😭❤❤❤❤❤
This movie really resonated with me. I was born in Canada but my parents came from China. I have never been more eager to go see a movie and feel that this makes being Asian kind of neat. At least until the next “ pro diversity” movie event comes around!
I was just as emotional about this movie as I was about Black Panther. This is the beginning and i pray it only opens doors for more. We live in a diverse world and our movies should reflect that too.
Gemma Chan is the definition of elegant.
loved learning about their backgrounds!
Hella ya, this makes me PROUDER to be an Asian American. Movie was great. 👊🏼
I saw the movie today and I couldn't help it when I saw Gemma. A true definition of class
Hah.. malaysian tvs have all the faces in the world!! Bollywood cantonese latin telenovelas arabs .. truly asia is an understatement.. truly rojak!!
i see this film as the first step is it a great film or an awards contender ??NO but its a small step to show the world that asians are'nt just the best friend, nerd, martial artist they can just be allowed to be real down to earth characters with real everyday struggles who just happen to be asian thats what i call progress
Just brilliant, sharing this far and wide!!
I've never had a person on the big screen like me and it was just so meaningful to be able to watch this movie and see people who look like me and have traditions like me.
im crying because it's diversity is so important and ive watched it multiple times already
Went and saw this film with my wife and mom yesterday. It was great! Better than I expected.
Gemma Chan is so gorgeous and classy I love her!!!
I’m crying.
