      The main factor is how much I "need" a certain plug. The Dynamic EQ I purchased some years ago was my first and thankfully I'm happy with it. If I wasn't I would look out for a new one. Yet, the Acustica plug is more versatile and appears easier to use!

      The main factor is actually how hard it is for me to me to come up with a fake reason to convince myself that I absolutely need that thing. It should be how disappointed I will be if my music still doesn't sound any better after I spend a lot of money for it. I guess I will never learn.

    For anyone getting into Acustica Audio plugins, it's very important to note that the presets window that pops up at the bottom, is like changing the sound of the entire plugin! The reason for that is they sample "Real Gear", so each preset is of a different setting on said gear, or a different piece of gear. So when you change the preset, you'll get an entirely NEW sound many of the times. So with Acustica Audio plugins you really have to go through and learn each preset and what it's strengths and limitations are! Can take a lot of time fore each plugin, but it's equally important to benefit fully from them IMO. And yes they DO sound better than any other plugin, however they do use significantly more CPU than any other plugin, and I really HATE their GUI's, and their customer support is not very good IMO. But they can basically make that analog gear in a plugin format, that's closer than any other plugin I've ever used! Try to use busses if you don't have a HUGE CPU! And if you have 2 computers with 1Nvidia GPU, and another with an AMD GPU, I've read that they are optimized for Nvidia GPU's to offload some of their processing power. Not sure if they still do that, or how well it works(as I read it in an update a few years ago), but it would be interesting to know for sure if this was true.

    The main factor for me - is to think : how much do i really need this or other plugin/ plugins. Do i just want to upgrade my plugins collection without visible reason,or : if this is the plugin,that i will use in every mix,and its possibilities shows to me: yess!!! From this video, the plugin sounds great and I am impressed! It is a shame that Acustica requires the installation of their "Aquarius" software to download and install these plugins. Plus, it looks like your DAW needs to be connected to the internet for the plug-ins to work. One of the pre-requisites in the manual says "Fast and reliable internet connection (offline mode is not possible)." We all sometimes lose our internet connection, and to have that happen in the middle of work is frustrating. Plus, it is another external party connecting to your computer and another path for someone to potentially hack your system. That leads me to not even want to try the free versions.

    • @ohmcustomguitars5752
      @ohmcustomguitars5752 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Right off the bat, I like these styles of plugins, because they force you to use your ears, instead of looking at a graphical display. I learned that with using plugins, for instance in Reaper the build in EQ looks graphical, but you can put these away and use only your ears. Which is in my opinion a better workflow. Without staring your eyes out.

    I'm not sure if you got it wrong, or if you just stated it in a weird way, but the ones that say "ZL" at the end of them, in AA's vernacular, stand for "zero latency". They are the exact same plug-ins, but use a ton of CPU and provide significantly less latency. (for use w/recording through them instead of mixing onto a dry signal) The free versions have the ZL ones, too. The difference BTW the free and paid versions, and really what is cool about the plug-in, is that they have included convolution sampled eq emulations. The free just has the emulation of the 'Eminence' eq; Eminence is another one of AA's free offerings, so its nothing new there except using it as a dynamic eq. The paid volumes include emulations of different classic eq's that are mostly part of the other AA channel strips and eq's that they sell. Except the Mowtown eq. That's new to them. The video helped me understand the settings a little better, but I would have like to see you adjust the attack/release/threshold/sensitivity buttons and talk about why and when and how to use external sidechaining w/dynamic eq. Especially when mixing vocals and kick/bass. Thanks!

JET MIX one instance no problem, JET however as the ONLY plugin loaded massive CPU hit. I tried JET Mix because I had just been using Plugin Alliance bx_dynEQ V2 today so I thought it would be interesting to compare. I liked the sound of JET MIX but for my poor PC the CPU hit of JET is too much. I have other Acustica Audio plugins e.g. the original Pensado EQ which I hardly use because of the CPU overhead - I'm just not up to playing with the Big Boy toys I guess - I have too many plugins in any case so I won't loose any sleep over missing out on this one but the free Jet Mix I'll probably use again.

    Yes Acustica's plugins are CPU hungry, so as many other with high oversampling. But have you guys considered how much does your DAW allow you to harvest the whole potential of your CPU? We expend 100s or even thousands in a CPU/machine only to find out that although the DAW CPU Meters states100%, that isn't the real CPU usage. I did test all the mayor DAWs, and was really surprised with which one can really use the all 8 cores of my i7. I passed from using 5 Acusticas to round 30.

I was, and still am for some projects a Pro tools user, but I was getting frustrated to get the Dae CPU errors mixing and mastering ITB, just to realize that on the task manager performance meter was at 50/60% max. So I decided to check how where the other Daws doing on the CPU management, tried Cubase, StudioOne, Ableton, Reaper, and Cakewalk. I also tried the demo of PT Ultimate just to be sure that it was not my regular pro tools. The typical benchmark test with a same plugin in 100 channels doesn't really tell the truth, because in a real mix you tend to use many different plugins in a channel, maybe specially in the mix buss. I made the same mixing session to use the same routing and plugins in all daws mentioned. This took me a couple of months by the way. And Reaper took the 1st place.

    I used to be of the mindset that I did not like or rather did not need the graphical interface referencing when using Dyn EQ, {the C6 days from waves} coming from an analog large frame console era, Dating myself here, But then oh around 15 years or so ago I had really started to become not only appreciative of the Graphicle UI while using my ears, so I became pretty much demanding of it for me to consiuder the plug iun for purchase, Except about 8 years ago I started to use Plug-In Dr, I started to realize the far out of range some eq were are from the what the data says 10K and the Dr says OH NO that is 8K so I have come to where I am now and that is liking the graphical reference and then depending on it once I know where it is according to the Dr. so what am I saying in all this? I am missing the graphical reference, would be nice if it was an option to turn it on or not in these.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Acustica stuff is very much the highest quality, their Reverb we tested before was as close to highest level hardware we’ve ever heard. So it all comes down to how powerful your computer is to how many instances you can use and balancing that out with other products that are less taxing on your cpu but maybe not quite as transparent etc as the Acustica

    • @Rhuggins
      @Rhuggins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you. I tend to use Acustica because of the character it imparts..if I want transparency I’m going for linear digital - not Acustica or analog modelled stuff. Multiband expansion and compression are fantastically useful - but up until now have always been function over flavor pursuits. I never thought of spicing up the flavor of a dynamic EQ.
      LISA, from Plugin Alliance does a similar thing; its a colored dynamic parallel EQ. Much lighter on the CPU, despite being extremely powerful. I believe it can expand as well.

    Saying that Acustica plugins are heavy on CPU is an uderstatment, don't expect to use them with virtual instruments, mates. Ticks and craks are in the place even on an honestly well equiped machine, so keep in the audio track/bounced /rendered domain.

Esp. When the exact first usecase is one, where I myself at least really DONT want any coloration. I want clear control over what to pull out. I think a lot of plug-in testers like Dan worral and witse point out correctly; the time of the slick interface has come.
