    Nice set of heated leather front seats out a modern car Mel, look for preferably no airbag, and controls on seat base.. if runners don't match you can make steel adapter plate, or a cardboard template if you don't have skills etc.. take it to local engineering shop and they can cut it out, attach studs for new runners and drill bolt holes for mounts on your base. If they overlap, you can buy countersink head Allen screws, so when adapter is bolted to yer seat base it's flush.. leaving a nice flat surface to sit new seat on.. all the best. Mick

    I could understand if the DVLA wanted one window on each side but not two windows on one side, this won't suit most builds and could even cause structural weaknesses in some vans. Adequate light can be had by sun roofs ( Sky lights ) anyway.
    Keeping it registered as a van and insuring it as a camper or hobby van is probably the best idea.
    The DVLA were probably hating the extra workload changing over all these new builds as it's getting so popular now lol.
    Another great vid Mel 👍

    Hi Mel, happy to see you’re still on top of the mission.
    If you take the passenger seat off and measure the bolt spaces you may find that a trip to the breakers yard could turn up a replacement from another make of van.
    That’s just another one of my crazy ideas.
    Hope it helps.
    Stay well and keep smiling.

    Hi Mel if your putting in a single passenger seat you can get single seat bases as well, so you don't have anything to climb over getting in and out of the cab, under the seat is a great place to hide your deep cycle battery and solar charger, and it is only a few inches away from the main battery which is under the passenger floor, good luck with the build and can't wait fro next weeks, BTW who are you supporting in tomorrows Rugby????

    Might be worth a check that chopping/modifying the seat does not need anything from the DVLA. My front double seat has been chopped - done when I got it - but we have had to have a special certification plate to say it still meets the seatbelt/seat criteria here in NZ and many of our rules are similar to the DVLA. My top tip would be to decide how wide you want it - then add on a few inches and cut the fabric first and peel it back to where you want the structural cut - then you'll have fabric already there to tidy up the end. I can put a pic of my chopped seat on Insta if that's any use - just let me know. I want to swap mine for a single cab seat as its not adjustable at all - but the price is ridiculous for one here in NZ, even though there are lots of Sprinters here.

    Why dont you use waxoil spray on the inside where the plastic clips are. I removed the passenger double seat in my Sprinter and used a drivers seat (a lot cheaper to buy from a scrappy )and fitted the seat belt and used any existing holes to bolt it in and brackets to fix the seat to the floor. I also found that the airbag sensor would not work with the new seat, luckily a local garage plugged in and sorted the fault out for me for free.

    So in the UK the tell you what you can and can't call your vehicle or is it just for the MOT classification and insurance purposes? Personally I feel that is too much government oversight that is just there to make life more expensive. With the moisture issue I would look and see if the little plastic clips are leaking air, if they are and the inside is warm you will get condensation build up. For just the sake of knowing there is no air leak I would use silicon on the backside of those tabs, if nothing else it will ensure no water coming in as they will be sealed.

    • @BigVanSmallWorld
      @BigVanSmallWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don’t know why people don’t use polystyrene I think it’s a trend thing most caravans are insulated with polystyrene I’m only going to be using it low down and on the floor it is flammable maybe that’s why it’s not used? I’ll use and have used 15 mm for the flooring it’s still cold down there in the winter in the mornings but definitely makes a massive difference when you insulate the floor and polystyrene is probably the best thing for this 🤓👍

Is there perhaps a significant other than needs to be accommodated ? Seems quite popular to buy a BMW seat with integral seatbelt and mount it on a swivel base.

    Mel, the new DVLA regulations aren't even prescriptive, never mind draconian! They have no vested interest in whether your van has windows and decals or not, or whether you want to sleep in it. "Body type" simply refers to the vehicle's general appearance. If you've altered its appearance then you need to let them know is all.
    Since "Does it look like a motor home?" is ambiguous and subjective they instead specifically ask, "Does it have windows and decals?" If the answer is no then you don't need to change the body type. Either way you can still use it as a motor home.
    This is as straightforward as changing the colour; the only DVLA requirement being that the colour has indeed changed. They couldn't care less what colour it is, so long as what's showing on their records matches what the vehicle looks like in traffic.

    • @nagualdesign
      @nagualdesign 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogerrabbit6522 I think you've misunderstood the requirements. The document you linked to clearly explains the procedure for changing the body type of your vehicle and what that means.
      Essentially, changing the body type from van to motor caravan means informing the DVLA that your vehicle now looks like a campervan. The 'requirement' being that your vehicle does indeed look like a campervan (ie, it has windows, decals and wotnot). They're not saying that you have to have decals, they're saying that that's what they mean by body type.
      If you have a stealth camper (no windows and/or decals) then the body type will simply be "panel van" or whatever. That doesn't mean that you're not allowed to go camping in it, it just means that in traffic it looks for all intents and purposes like a panel van.

    • @rogerrabbit6522
      @rogerrabbit6522 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you read it properly you will see that whilst their intention is for conversions to look like campervans they detail the list as a checklist of multiple options and not mandatory. That is the current problem because it is not clearly stated, very poorly done so it is likely to change or at least be rewritten.
      Permanent external features, 'combination of the following' but not mandatory or minimum requirement.

    • @nagualdesign
      @nagualdesign 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogerrabbit6522 _"..their intention is for conversions to look like campervans."_
      No it isn't. They couldn't care less what it looks like. All they're asking is that _if _*_you've elected_*_ to change the vehicle's appearance_ then you have to let them know about it.
      If you've fitted a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom in a panel van but no windows or decals then the "body type" is still "panel van".
