As always very clear instructions and well presented. Your videos are my goto reference for the NUX MG-30(0). Yes I own both but I love the MG-30 much better due to its versatility, robust built and processing power. Now I am waiting for my midi commander (MeloAudio/Harley Benton) to arrive to build an even more flexible and gigable setup.
Thank You for the video. You answered my questions and helped me decide to order one. The standalone modeler is great, but I have to be able to use it with my amp, both preamp and in the loop. Subscribed.
Well explained Helmut !! I think I have to buy it now because of the black friday offer from Thomann. (I have the MG 300) A pity though that the Send and Return are not independent blocks !!!
Hello Helmut. In Output mode, in what scenario would you choose combo front versus combo rear. I have a Fender combo amp. Input is in the front. Send and Receive are in the rear. Thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial. I have one question: does it make sense to use the AMP section of the NUX MG 30 while being connected to a tube amp with four cable method?
How do you know in what order in the "signal path" to place the various items such as amp, send/receive, compression, effects, etc.? The answer shouldn't be whatever sounds best. There must be some logic and procedures to follow per NUX, but they do not seem to have published anything on this subject. It also seems to be very important to follow signal path instructions to avoid issues. I have an external combo amp and I am using the 4-cable method. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you, Helmut.
@@helmutshatner Thank you so much. Where should send/receive, amp, eq, and IR be placed in the path? Also, there is no field called preamp, so can you clarify what you mean by that?
@@genasuarez It's all always a matter of personal preferences. But i'd put OD/DIST/BOOST/COMP in front of AMP. Then time based effects and/or inserts afterwards. IR (cabs) would be the last in my chain.
Hi! Nice video!! I have a basic question...to get in context..., I have a NuX Cerberus and was imaging that the 4 cable method connections for the mg30 would be the same (output of the nux to the input of the amp and send/return loop of the nux to the send/return looo of the amp). Here I see you makenit different for the mg30...could you please explain why this difference? Its clear that in the cerberus you dont have the amp simulation, but if I would want to use the real sound of the amp (orange rocker 32) and only the effects of this NuXmg30, it wouldnt work the 4 cable method Im telling? (And switch off the amp and the IR??) Many thanks in advance!!!!
Thanks for the video Helmut, I wanted to ask you what type of cables are suitable for this connection: Are they worth Guitar cables or do they have to be head-to-cabinet connection cables? Greetings
So I just got a MG 30 and love it. My amp, a small Fender Bass breaker, doesn't have an efx loop so my signal chain is guitar-mg30-amp and I think it sounds good. Is this an ok method of routing? When I play live, I plan on just going direct. Thanks!
Hello. I've got a Blackstar 20 mkII head going through 2x12 cab. I want to get the nux mg30 to runnit in the 4cm.. I really love the clean and the high gain channel of the blackstar but I would still love to be able to use some of the amp models in the mg-30. Is this possible in the 4 cable method? Cheers
This is a very noob question. Planning to buy this NUX mg30. I wanted to ask. Can you plug this on an amp like of an old Line 6 Spider IV 15 which doesnt have a Send, Return Output etc. Just a basic INPUT slot. That’s it. Hope you can give insight to this. Thanks

3 Stupid questions - what type of hookups on the amp are required? Solid state or tube will work? Will the cab sims work with this hookup or just the Efex?
It would be good, if the amp has effect send/return. Solid State or tube, both will work. Depending on which Output mode (Combo Front/Rear...) you select, the cab sims will be deactivated automatically.
Hi @helmut , I am an blackstar official artist and was looking forward to use the fx of this unit with my amp. what are your thoughts with professional pedalboard which I already have if you compare the quality of the fx?
Hi. IMHO the MG-30 works best in direct recording or straight into PA situations. It's strength is/are the various very authentic amps and cab sims - you would lose that by just using it as a efx unit (which - of course - would work absolutely fine).
Hi i would like to ask question if my ampil is boss katana 50 do i just straight connect to the nux mg 30 as my boss katana50 is not FRFR amp any idea ?
@@helmutshatner so it mean i only have 2 cabel guitar which mean one cable straight to the guutar go to nux mg30 and the nux mg30 have two output which mean i can only use one put as status my ampil only 1
This setup gives you a lot of options. By using the 4-cable method, you can use channel switching and the preamp sections of your amp, bypassing the amp modelers in the model, if you have a nice preamp in your amp that you want to use, and still use time-based FX after your amp's preamp by having them in the amp's FX loop. Alternatively, you can switch off the FX loop on the MG30 (or similar devices) and then use the modelers in the device, which then go directly to the power amp section of your amp. Basically, if you're using time-based FX and want to use the dirty channel on your amp, you need to do it this way, or else your sound will be muddy, as the time-based FX will be mangled by the distortion in the amp's preamp. I hope this makes sense. It's really not that complicated once you have done it a few times.

The basics are to put OD/DIST/BOOST/COMP in front of the preamp and all time based efx (MOD/DLY/RVB) after.
