Ursula Andress had a spectacular body, but that overly structured bikini didn't do her justice. Even so, she's the most iconic of all the Bond women in this scene.
To give you and idea. $100 US in 1962 is the equivalent of $857.95 today. She has about a dozen shells at an average of $25 x12= $300, Or $2573.85. Not a bad gig for beach combing and shell collecting.
The best Bond ever. Saw his first Bond movie Dr. No. When I was 16 and ever since I admire him. He was my Idol until this time/ I am 68 years old. Love you Mr. Bond my Hero.
Filmmakers to this day still cannot figure out how Ursula Andress energing from the sea became such an iconic scene. It is a perfectly simple shot by Young, but yet he somehow had everything line up perfectly. It's probably one of those instances where if you make an effort for great movie moment, it just never happens. Obviously Andress has a lot to do with it - sort of a Venus and shells concept and which Young probably had in mind. But it's not just that. It is the color and the sand - the whole mise en scene which does the job. I shall never tire of the remarkable direction on display here.

Connery aged so quickly. He was actually almost bald here too (wearing a toupee). By 1975 in 'The Man Who Would Be King', he almost looked old (he was just 44), and did not visibly age any more than that until his retirement in 2003.

Hard to believe how far we have fallen from these far better and simpler times. I love nice cars, technology, information, but it all comes with a very steep price.
I totally agree. I'm 50 now and my generation has had the chance to have THE best outlook on it all as we today take full advantage of technology, have witnessed all it's bustling rise first hand but still remember how things were before when there was very little of it. My two cents: - cellular phones, started off as a great commodity (used it first in 1994) in respect to home/office landlines + phonebooths in the streets...but were not accompanied by any education about the new technology so today people pretend to dial a number and expect to have another person answer within 3-4 second in any given moment...even if they are having sex, are in the shower of shitting on a toilet. It becomes really annoying at times especially because some people panic and think if you don't answer in 5 seconds and two calls you must have had a car accident, gave up you job or are dead on the floor... - PCs, fantastic tool and a formidable aid in many things, they literally created hundreds of different jobs from scratch (among which mine), their performances and reliability grew exponentially while their price tag dropped dramatically so today you can access formidable processing power and memory storage with 4-500 euros while 2-3000 euros give you access to actual supercomputing and the possibility to run top-notch complex SW that 20-25 years ago was limited to advanced scientific facilities. Probably the best thing that happened to humanity. - the Internet, excellent platform per-se, allows unthinkable data exchange among billions of people in real time (my first navigation on BBS in 1988 as a kid, online 24/7 personally since 1998), eMail totally revolutionized the world and if it suddenly disappeared the planet economy would collapse in a matter of days. Online systems are showing endless possibilities in many fields. - Social media, meh... in the beginning it was fun and helpful (started with Tagged.com 4 years before FB was born, already had a 3D avatar on ActiveWorlds.com years before SecondLife.com even existed, had P2P accounts on eMule and such) as long as we used it as a side-tool to organize a meeting or maybe a family dinner or so. Today I see a nonsensical use of it (except maybe YT) that absorbs people into the shallowness of their hedonism and basically makes people waste their life. - Smartphones, meh... they started off as a cool and useful thing but today have become in fact the base for Orwell's Big Brother...people unconsciously pour toms of personal information in them daily...where they go, what they do, what they buy or like, how they look, who they frequent for business or pleasure...all this information is silently gathered by private and governmental organizations for a wide variety of goal, most of which are not in the person's favor. Cheers.
