My sister spoke her truth and her impact statement touched a lot of hearts.

This testimony was heart wrenching. She has such high hopes of a better life for herself & others. A real goal oriented girl. He STOPPED all that by killing her & her baby. A sexual deviant who dropped out of 7 th grade bc he became a father. Psych eval stated he was egotistical, narcissistic and blamed other for his uncontrollable impulses. Give him death for the 2 lives he murdered and the sexual deviancy of his other niece, Iyanas baby sister. NO MERCY! Took jury 58 minutes to convict, all 12, will only take 8 for DP. No life imprisonment. NO MERCY FOR VICTIMS, NO MERCY FOR KILLER!
The new law mandating only 8 does not unfortunately apply to this case (occurred b4 the law passed). WIll need all 12, and I think they will do it, if there's any justice in this world, all 12 will voted DP.

Pay attention it's a reason why. Sometimes it's to get away from their home life, maybe they really do love to be around you or you let them do/go wherever they want too.Sneak around with the wrong crowd.And most of all...there's a boy or man in your neighborhood, walking vicinity, next door,across the street, around the corner and sadly in your own house 😢Pay attention! I feel so incredibly sad for the sister. The burden that has been and probably currently on her shoulders. I pray for her healing. I pray that if she carries any guilt, that she forgives herself.
Just sickened. To know I live in this city is even more disturbing. The blatant disregard for life is outrageous. He just used her body for his own sick pleasure then discarded her like trash when he had no more use for her. No regard for her, his unborn child, her future, her friends, her family, her legacy, nothing. Just had himself in mind. What a beautiful, loving, and heartfelt statement by Iyana's Aunt under such horrific circumstances. May God's love embrace this family and reassure each one of them that Iyana is in His loving presence now and forever...and they WILL see Iyana and her baby again. (just as a personal "side note"...I watched this trial from beginning to end and what was so "off-putting" to me was how the Attorney's on BOTH sides chose to refer to Iyana as, "IS" throughout the trial. They also referred to Iyana's sister as "SS". I found it very disrespectful, dehumanizing, and unprofessional. "Iyana" is a BEAUTIFUL name, she was loved, a live person, human being....given a name by her mother that reflected that love and beauty....she was not an "IS." "IS" was in fact NOT a form of "nickname" widely used by Iyana's family, friends, or social circle, so I continue to "wonder" why this was done.) Do you know what the name "Iyana" means? It means: "God is gracious"......

Having to hear the gruesome details of what happened to this child, must’ve been devastating. I hope that he literally rota in prison. He’s right in his element. I agree that they failed her, but it happens every day because people don't want to believe that something that ugly could happen in their family. I believe her favorite aunt is the one who expressed concerns about the uncle. I didn't think their acceptance and support for their 16-year-old pregnant niece wasn't an example of neglect but of unconditional love. We can disagree and even disapprove of our loved one's behavior but still support them.

Those were the most beautiful, gracious impact statements I have ever heard. They really painted a picture of who Yaya was, someone who had so much potential and had her life cruelly taken from her before she had a chance to truly live it. God bless her family.

No more Victoria Secret fragrances and body lotions for this young teen that was soon to become a mommy due to the poor choice(s) made by the man married to another to auntie’s husband. Dish soap on the kitchen floor could end up with broken bones or a cracked skull. Otherwise a very touching impact statement by a loving auntie. Their faith will help this broken family heal for the sake of all the children affected by this tragedy. Hopefully mental health support is available.

This is a sweet statement, but I wish more relatives would encourage their family members to not be sexually active at such a young age.
I think it would be better to discourage males from interfering with underage girls, disappear them, and destroy whole families. Those who violate this should be ostracized from the community and dealt with by the men. Girls being sexually active is natural, especially with kids your age. Those girls were sexually assaulted and taken advantage of by adult males.
I'm sure their mother didn't encourage them to have sex at an early age, however. when you're sexually abused, it can cause you to be promiscuous.

Lord this poor family! My heart goes out to them. However, I am finding it hard to comprehend how this family handled this situation. The wife initially went against her whole family and sided with this animal she called husband. It seems to me that the family just danced around it and went on to an acceptance of it being a dirty open secret. They knew but were carrying on as if it was a great thing for a 15yr to be pregnant. The accusation about the uncle had been out there for a while, so when this poor girl pops up pregnant they were acting as if it was a mystery who the father could be. The mother only went to the police with accusations against the uncle after SS finally admitted to SA. SS only came forward with this after IS disappeared and it became increasingly apparent she was not coming back.

Though I think this had been going on/started a few years when the girls were way younger so he as the adult and the aunts failed those girls- the aunts should have been more protective and vigilant if them. As the girls got older and knew exactly what was going on, they themselves should have confessed the grave issue. I know the girls felt guilt and shame as well

Her being pregnant at a young age seems to be acceptable, all because she was an honor student. Parents tend to look the other way, as long as 'your grades are good'.
