Nice review video but the music is annoying.

I believe this is simply a difference in revisions. My pair are some of the original production run--they are very old. And mine say "MADE IN JAPAN", but have a strain-relief like the pair on the left, but do say Sony on the plug. Also, the perforated shield in front of the driver looks like the pair on the left.

When Sony makes a high tech product the first batches are usually from Japan until they get one of the factories in another country up to the same standard. Bought mine in Japan in 2000 and it also has "made in Japan". I would prefer the "made in Japan" version but I doubt their is a lot of difference :)

It's said that Sony had them first made in Japan then the Philippines then Thailand.

Some say one pair is fake, some say both pais are fake. Only Sony themselves in a thread in their forum say that both are authentic :D

Mine were made in Philippines and they fit the description of the authentic, which means there were different versions. Honestly, I doubt anyone would waste time counterfeiting headphones (although these were the "Beats" of their time). I am sure Sony itself started cheapening their quality (and price) as they were slowly phasing them out.

Top of the line Todays Sony Headphones are made in Thailand.... and the mass prodution cheap ones are made in China.
My MDR-V7506 is made in Thailand
The old ones (like MDR V-6) were made in Japan

Actually, there are 4 versions of this headphones, the last version is CHINA. It doesn't say Made in China. It just says China. From my research, the last version of these headphones were the CHINA versions before getting discontinued. The CHINA version has all of the indicators similar to the Japan/Thailand version in your video. Another thing is that I've heard the CHINA version is very rare since not much was made. You can also tell if they are not fake if you do have a CHINA version. the SONY logo on outside of the cups have very small lines indicating they are authentic.

Mine say Made In japan they are also 15 years old. I think sony changes where they are made after so often also. Those are def cheaply made with the wires the way they were

hi. Some years ago i was bought a set headphone mdr-V700 on ebay. Viewing this video, my headphones have the plug that says SONY, the conector is soft. They have the plug adapter. But only difference is that mine, says "MADE IN CHINA" in the right side. But they are good construction and never a problem. I have the pouch, with the sony label. How i can identify is this are fake??? the differences in your video are some minimal with my headphones.

I've had a situation in which I bought a Paul Frank "Devil" Julius tee shirt. About five years later, I decided to get another one. I found one on eBay. The seller promised me it wasn't a fake. Immediately when I received the item I was convinced it was counterfeit. The labels were completely different, the quality of the fabric was poor, and my original shirt had a decal of authenticity on the inside of the shirt (the one I bought off eBay did not). I made a huge stink to the seller and gave her a negative review. I contacted the company, Paul Frank. The company actually called me back. Then, after I sent photographs of the shirt, they told me that it was indeed authentic. It was just manufactured at a different location. I withdrew the bad rating, apologized profusely to the seller, and I felt like an ass afterwards. Sometimes our logic is not truth. The only way to know is to verify it with the company that made it. I doubt it's going to be easy to call Sony with this.

I think MDR v 700's was produced in Thailand in the first couple years then the line moved to China, not after long the model was discontinued. However, I cannot tell if it is real or fake. I bought mine about 10 years ago, and it was the Thailand batch.

Both are original. Walmart doesnt sell fakes.
This video is bullshit. There are different versions of those headphones that are produced in different countries.
I have the "fake" ones from your video bought from Sony directly. I contacted them and showed them your video. They said that probably both your headphones are legit but from different productions. This headphones are on sale from many many years, it is more than logical some parts to change in production.

aaa aaa ... That's been my argument from the very beginning! There are "China" Sony headphones and then there are "Made-in-China" Sony headphones...One (China)is "authenticated" and the other (Made-in-China) is "counterfeit". This isn't something somebody told me, I spent [let's say] PLENTY money (Knowingly) to obtain my knowledge surrounding the Sony MDR series headphones (V600, V700, [Z]700, V900, XD900 IN PARTICULAR) !!!

The word "Counterfeit" is a bit an aggressive term for these headphones. [Believe it or not] There is also a such thing as fake "Made in China" Sony headphones and THOSE are the ones you have to be careful of !!! There is a company in China that produced the Sony MDR series headphones on a legitimate basis, Under license with legal consent from the Sony corporation, But the headphones are regarded as 'Fake' by mainstream society because the headphones weren't an authentication of Sony products as compared to the Japan, Philippines and Thailand origins, But instead, were 'OUTSOURCED' models. Those who were aware of the specifics of the China versions just dubbed them as 'Spin-offs', But the existence of actual counterfeit versions are few due in part to (among other things) the obvious, distinctive difference(s) in appearance between the China-Made MDR's and the China counterfeit, Never really made it out of mainland China and understandably with the concept one considers "If they can't fool anyone against the legitimate 'China' Sony's, These particular headphones wouldn't have a chance against the Authentic market"!... But I will say this....Even though the difference in performance between the Authentic MDR's and the REAL 'China' MDR's are noticeable, As another commentator on TH-cam put it...If you paid 50 bucks for a pair of [Real China-Made MDR's], Its worth the money ! The comparisons are pretty much equivalent to that of [let's say] "Hi-Fidelity Stereo vs. Dolby Noise Reduction" but one would have to be a 'Conessiour' of V700s to know and appreciate the difference. A Millenial [For example] would probably compare the difference(s) to a pair of 'Beats'! I wouldn't concern myself with running into a pair of the counterfeit MDRs, They're harder to come by than a mint pair of legits', But most of you guys on TH-cam make VERY GREAT points on identifying and I agree that the China Sony's leave quite a bit to be desired, But keep an open mind, It's being able to tell the difference between "Made in China" MDRs and Made in China FAKES (PHONY SONYs) that you need to be concerned about [YEAH, I KNOW] ...BUT...If you insist upon being that infamous "Most-Demanding" patriarch as it relates to the Sony MDR series headphones, Then the aforementioned countries of origin above (excluding China) is the only REAL choices !

I have a pair that I'm selling on ebay right now. I'm positive they are authentic. They are made in Thailand and look identical to your original pair. I took some photos of the headphones, so you can see exactly what item you are getting. If you are interested, send me a message.

I have an authentic pair, same markings as the authentic one in this video except they say Philippines. Some jerk was selling fake ones on ebay while at the same time claiming "they were the originals unlike the fake ones from china". I had a feeling they weren't legit so I did some investigating by looking at his purchase history and I could see he was buying a bunch of these from sellers in China then relisting them for way more as being from the USA. I reported him to ebay with my proof so people don't get scammed and ebay got back to me saying there is no way for them to know. Yeah right! A 2 year old child could figure it out. I'm sure ebay just doesn't want to miss out on listing fees. I have never reported anything else ever again to ebay because it was pretty obvious they don't care about who gets ripped off. They just want people to list and sell so they can get their listing fees!

Sorry to disappoint you,but both headphones that you have are fake.Everyone knows sony is a japanes company and the original pair of MDRV700 has MADE IN JAPAN on it not THAILAND.but I think they did a good job in faking it,at-least its better than the Chinese one but no where near the JAPAN pair.

Nino Brown Wrong again! I have an original pair of MDR-V700s (can't remember when I bought them, but they are at least 15 years old - bought them in a professional music equipment store, I am 100% sure they are legit), mine say "Made in Japan".
You are correct, though, Sony did produce those headphones in Thailand as well (the later ones - like all Sony headphones), so both locations are (potentially) original.
I love my MDR-V700s. Not only have they lasted so long and kind of grew on me (is that how you say it? ... sorry not a native English speaker), but they just serve my needs. They are called "DJ"-headphones, but I am not a DJ. I sit in the studio and record stuff. The V700s are the most neutral headphones I've experienced so far (and I've tried a lot of stuff.... Sennheiser, AKG, Audio Technica...). If you don't put an equalizer on the output, you hear the sound that's there. No more, no less!
I've read a lot of reviews on these headphones that say that they have too much bass, but I think those people just had their equalizer set up wrong...
So, even in the studio (for me) these headphones are unmatched for monitoring (I know, real monitoring is done with monitoring speakers - somteimes headphones are needed, though),
Finally, the V700s are great drumming headphones! They can go the extra mile regarding volume and are closed just enough to let your own drumming come in and you can still hear the music from the headphone. Recording, though, is a different thing, I think. I am still looking for the best recording headphones for drums, but the V700s are too open for that (IMHO).
