  • I have had lots of requests for the CAD for this machine, and had some requests to have narration to explain what is going on.
    Well, here it is! This is part 1 of 3 of a heavily edited shorter version of the original series which ran for 24 episodes.
    Keep watching to the end of part 3 for details on how to download the CAD for free !

    I have been seeking a CNC router design for some time and eventually found your channel. Your machine design brief fits very well with mine. Your Z access design is simply jaw dropping; in my view it would not look out of place at CERN! Your skills; design, manufacture, problem solving and implementation (persistence) are top level. Completely awe inspiring and inspirational.
    I will now need to go away and work on a number of my skill areas, as I now have a better idea what my end goal should be. Thank you for telling us about your amazing build.

      Glad it helped you. If you look through my videos one of them talks about the CAD (50% off in the thumbnail). I think I added a link to the mycncuk forum where I uploaded a Fusion 360 version of the CAD for free. Have a look and see if that helps, at least you can see how I did it.

      Sorry, the link is in the directors cut 3 of 3 video. Look through my channel to find it. Free CAD link is there.

      I don’t do any of that sorry, so little time for everything. I’m only on the mycncuk forum.

    Just purchased a second Router to help rebuild/upgrade bits for my larger one. 😆 Small one will likely become a small Plasma Cutter after this job. Great content too 👍

    Hey, nice to see a video about your machine again!
    I saw them while designing my own project for a cnc some years ago.
    It had a ton of design changes through it's design stage hehe. But unfortunately I haven't started building yet.
    I got a bit obsessed with accuracy and decided I'd make a steel cutting machine, using an off the shelf milling table (which would take away a lot of work).
    Still waiting for a good moment to start.
    Thanks for showing the build!

      You are welcome, good luck with your design and build. Design is an interesting process and each decision knocks onto something else. Hang in there !

    Just found your channel. Now just have to find a decent CNC workplace, which let me make parts like this in a spare time. Then to find a decent place for myself, where to assemble and build up a decent tool base.
    This design seems sturdy enough, even over-engineered. Then.. yeah, so much work goes into these machines, it would be easier to get rich enough to just buy a ready seconhand mill, even if it takes away some fun. If it sounds like a poor dreamer's discourse, it is. For now.🧙‍♀️

      Yes you either spend a great deal of time and effort (2 years is not unusual for a build!) or save up and buy something. A CNC is a magical tool that I would not want to be without. Good luck with it and keep dreaming and making a plan!

    Excellent overview! Thanks. Looking forward to the next ones.
    If you haven't planned it already, maybe there could be a part 4 "if I had to do it all over again" what would I do?
    Engineering approach and choice of materials/parts sourcing could also be a good discussion.

      Interesting idea. I’ll give it some thought.

      @@routercnc9517 I'd second this "what would I do differently" idea - you're obviously very knowledgeable and knowing your thoughts on what worked, what didn't and what could be better after some use time with the design would be extremely valuable

    • @routercnc9517
      @routercnc9517  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll add it to the list. It may fit in well with another topic I had been considering. Don’t hold your breath though! Thanks

  • @drivenba

    If you have any leftover CAD for the initial power drawbar design - I'd be very interested in seeing that as well! I've not seen a router with a ratio-reduced spindle for more torque - something I've thought about quite a bit for low end torque and encoder feedback to the controller, hence would be useful to see how you initially thought it could work

    • @routercnc9517
      @routercnc9517  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have to think about that because the CAD is in a format that most people could not read so that would need exporting out and then each piece would have to be positioned into new assemblies. I never built it so the Belleville washers may not be the correct preload etc. Maybe instead I’ll do a CAD walk around as a future video just to show what I was thinking at the time.. So many projects so little time!

      @@routercnc9517 definitely understand the time limitation! Rest assured all of your efforts are very appreciated and useful at least!
      The file formatting and assembly mating wouldn’t be prohibitive for me specifically, but could see how it would be for others. Raw files would be faster but I think a video would be more beneficial for the masses (at the expense of more of your time, unfortunately)

      OK another one for the list
