gonna be honest here, if there’s a thing i envy in artists is how easily some of them just go with the flow and have fun. if i were to do a project like this i would mesure out everything, make a detailed plan with every proportion, and (if i managed to keep going after it already stressed me out) end up crying when it eventually didn’t work the way i planned.
You're one step ahead of me, then. My impatient ADHD ass wouldn't even get past 5 minutes of anything since I have zero patience which sucks since I'm an art major and love watching crafting videos lol.
I'll give some advice then, which helped me. Buy "Wreck this Journal" by Keri Smith. The point is to truly attempt to ruin the book, not to make it pretty. Which is a lot harder than it sounds, actually. But it's great exercise in letting go the need to be perfect. Once you allow yourself the freedom to make a mess without apology, it changes something inside you and begins to release the need to make all other projects "perfect". You learn that pretty much anything you do to the journal can be worked around, or even made into a beautiful feature. you begin to trust yourself to figure it out when there's a problem. It did me a world of good.
1st rule of art is, no matter how much you plan, plot, measure or redo, no project is ever going to be exactly like what you first imagined it to be, but that's one of the greatest things! Most things that you improvise are some of the best elements of the piece of art. You can look back and say 'Hey, I didn't have it all figured out, but it still turned out brilliant!' Over time you begin to trust your crafting instincts more. Make a quick doodle sketch and get at it!
Measuring things makes me wanna die, so I have to trial and error EVERYTHING until it works how I want it to. Takes forever. But try to let your perfectionism take the backseat to fun, and when you cry because it's not working out how you wanted, that's the halfway point ❤ happy crafting

We found your channel looking for something to help calm my daughter down for bed since visual stimuli is something that helps keep her settled, but I like trying to keep her nighttime video consumption to something more calm and soothing - and this was perfect. My daughter is a huge Ghibli fan and she asked for all the Ghibli videos personally after we watched the Pokemon Center - and I am not totally in love. My craft of choice is plush making and I enjoy it thoroughly, but I absolutely LOVE seeing how other crafters handle the details and techniques of their projects and these are just lovely. Your jokes are on point and your techniques are some of the best I've seen. Can't wait to see more!
I really love how you actually provide evidence of how truly incredible art can be made for dirt cheap. I see so many videos claiming to be cost friendly and then being like all you need is a 3D printer and this incredibly obscure piece of niche equipment that serves exactly one purpose.

My painting style is rather messy and I use colors like Howl's moving castle has, and I can say I'm obsessed with everything being perfectly imperfect :') It's either a curse or a blessing because I would spend hours to perfect drawings, then later finding out how horrible it is ahha
I'm the same but after becoming a welder it's calmed down in me as welding as a practice is imprecise BECAUSE of humans, literally day 1 you're taught no human weld will ever be perfect as just our hear beats throws off our hand movements and affect our welds even very slightly so you just have to accept you'll never be perfect

I might be living under a rock, because the name Discworld didn't ring a bell, so I googled it, and instantly filled in all the blanks in my mind to every time I've seen a reference to that turtle. I think the only Terry Pratchett I've been exposed to is the Good Omens tv series actually. Is The Colour of Magic the best place to start for reading a Terry Pratchett book?
@@StudsonStudio ah awesome! The Discworld series is just the best. Such a hard question lol. The colour of magic is good, and I loved the BBC film adaptation, but honestly I didn't enjoy the book too much, or the light fantastic, especially when compared to the rest. I actually started with The Fifth Elephant, number 24 lol! But that's the great thing about the series, you can pretty much start where you want! Personally I'm glad I didn't start from #1 because I don't know if I would have kept reading! I loved The Last Continent, Guards! Guards! But they're all so good it's hard to choose. He basically has different "themes" ie, wizards, witches, city watch, and a couple others. Different books interlap sometimes but generally stick to their groupings. Hope that helps!

I often think of going back to this type of art, as a child I did stuff like this only on an eight to twelve age range level of skill, I sewed grass tubes together, I wove plants into braids, I made bridges. I used instant Mac and Cheese boxes for walls and caps for stools and I'd make the floors and such. Didn't have paint but I still did as much as I could with boring brown walls and construction paper. My dad would often pick them up while they were half way with the Popsicle stick porches and the Popsicle stick house in progress, and smash them into the trash, so I'd have to restart over and over, he was a hoarder who screamed at me for keeping trash around and often threw my stuff into the yard. From backpacks to plush animals. So I would cry and then start over. I once made a chair from paper plates and two pencils perfect for dolls. Just about everything I made was crushed and smashed into the trash. So as you can see, I lost a lot of the motivation to do this. My dad's abuse and insults over my passions were always in my head. Seeing an adult do what I grew up told I could not just fills me with fire. I wonder if I could even do it anymore.
It sounds like you really have (had) a passion for this, so why not get it revived? If you were that creative as a child, just imagine what wonderful creations you could come up with now! Regarding the "I wonder if I could even do it anymore", I think it's all going to come back quite fast, just like riding a bike after you haven't in a while! So totally go for it!
@@alexandratudorescu2162 In ways I think it's the abuse. I'm scared to do something I love so much and maybe have it destroyed. Watching this man slave hours into a project and put so much effort in and keep his made me a touch envious. I wish I was that lucky, some part of me wishes I had pictures of what I made, some sort of reference from my old self. I do all manner of art now, this is just one that I've been scared to step back into. It's so delicate and easily destroyed. It's been almost twenty years since that me existed, and it feels weird to unearth such a rusted wheel and fix it. I will likely have to start small with bottle cap bar chairs and crude shapes, then see if anything bad happens to them, and when it doesn't. . . I'm not sure how I will feel, relieved, I hope. Watching Studson's videos feels like a form of therapy for a bruise that never healed.
Thank you for sharing your story, I really appreciate it. I actually only got into this hobby as a 30+ year old adult and I believe it's never too late to start any hobby. Before that, the last time I crafted something was probably my pre-teen years. I agree with the folks above about starting small and jumping back into it. I started small following videos and templates others had made since it made me feel like there was less room for error, as I was just trying to replicate something I thought looked nice and didn't have to worry about putting my own creativity into it. It sounds like you have a passion in you that's ready to be manifested in some way. Good luck and have fun with whatever creative path you go down!
I think you should start , it may well be more beneficial to your mental well-being than can be imagined. Many people have these kind of scars from chilhood , and healing is important. Just knowing that nothing will happen to your creations is worth it alone . Do ourself a favour , you deserve it.

Paints over brown primer with metallic paint. --- Still, absolute genius. Scratch-built with no plan and it still looks 1,000% than anything I've built with an actual plan.
@@sandraswan9008 I was just surprised he painted over the metal rather than leave it bare. Then again, I'm not a model builder, I guess the primer gives the metal paint more depth than bare metal would have.

I cant help but rewatch this video over and over, it was my first and probably favorite studson video and it absolutely delights me to watch it every time.
I’m both encouraged and given so much anxiety by how imprecise you are. As someone who always gets caught up in the details in all my craft endeavours it’s so good to be reminded that you can make cool shit without being obsessed with “perfection”
My painting style is rather messy and I use colors like Howl's moving castle has, and I can say I'm obsessed with everything being perfectly imperfect :')
It's either a curse or a blessing because I would spend hours to perfect drawings, then later finding out how horrible it is ahha
I'm the same but after becoming a welder it's calmed down in me as welding as a practice is imprecise BECAUSE of humans, literally day 1 you're taught no human weld will ever be perfect as just our hear beats throws off our hand movements and affect our welds even very slightly so you just have to accept you'll never be perfect

I honestly am amazed by how much work You put into making this minatures and videos! I don't craft stuff as often but i enjoy watching a good craftsman in work. Everytime i get an info that "Studson Studio Uploaded new video" i say to myself: Yeah, today is going to be a good day.

I might be living under a rock, because the name Discworld didn't ring a bell, so I googled it, and instantly filled in all the blanks in my mind to every time I've seen a reference to that turtle. I think the only Terry Pratchett I've been exposed to is the Good Omens tv series actually. Is The Colour of Magic the best place to start for reading a Terry Pratchett book?
@@StudsonStudio ah awesome! The Discworld series is just the best. Such a hard question lol. The colour of magic is good, and I loved the BBC film adaptation, but honestly I didn't enjoy the book too much, or the light fantastic, especially when compared to the rest. I actually started with The Fifth Elephant, number 24 lol! But that's the great thing about the series, you can pretty much start where you want! Personally I'm glad I didn't start from #1 because I don't know if I would have kept reading! I loved The Last Continent, Guards! Guards! But they're all so good it's hard to choose. He basically has different "themes" ie, wizards, witches, city watch, and a couple others. Different books interlap sometimes but generally stick to their groupings. Hope that helps!

I often think of going back to this type of art, as a child I did stuff like this only on an eight to twelve age range level of skill, I sewed grass tubes together, I wove plants into braids, I made bridges. I used instant Mac and Cheese boxes for walls and caps for stools and I'd make the floors and such. Didn't have paint but I still did as much as I could with boring brown walls and construction paper.
My dad would often pick them up while they were half way with the Popsicle stick porches and the Popsicle stick house in progress, and smash them into the trash, so I'd have to restart over and over, he was a hoarder who screamed at me for keeping trash around and often threw my stuff into the yard. From backpacks to plush animals. So I would cry and then start over. I once made a chair from paper plates and two pencils perfect for dolls. Just about everything I made was crushed and smashed into the trash.
So as you can see, I lost a lot of the motivation to do this. My dad's abuse and insults over my passions were always in my head. Seeing an adult do what I grew up told I could not just fills me with fire. I wonder if I could even do it anymore.
It sounds like you really have (had) a passion for this, so why not get it revived? If you were that creative as a child, just imagine what wonderful creations you could come up with now! Regarding the "I wonder if I could even do it anymore", I think it's all going to come back quite fast, just like riding a bike after you haven't in a while! So totally go for it!
@@alexandratudorescu2162 In ways I think it's the abuse. I'm scared to do something I love so much and maybe have it destroyed. Watching this man slave hours into a project and put so much effort in and keep his made me a touch envious. I wish I was that lucky, some part of me wishes I had pictures of what I made, some sort of reference from my old self.
I do all manner of art now, this is just one that I've been scared to step back into. It's so delicate and easily destroyed. It's been almost twenty years since that me existed, and it feels weird to unearth such a rusted wheel and fix it. I will likely have to start small with bottle cap bar chairs and crude shapes, then see if anything bad happens to them, and when it doesn't. . . I'm not sure how I will feel, relieved, I hope.
Watching Studson's videos feels like a form of therapy for a bruise that never healed.

Thank you for sharing your story, I really appreciate it. I actually only got into this hobby as a 30+ year old adult and I believe it's never too late to start any hobby. Before that, the last time I crafted something was probably my pre-teen years. I agree with the folks above about starting small and jumping back into it. I started small following videos and templates others had made since it made me feel like there was less room for error, as I was just trying to replicate something I thought looked nice and didn't have to worry about putting my own creativity into it. It sounds like you have a passion in you that's ready to be manifested in some way. Good luck and have fun with whatever creative path you go down!
I think you should start , it may well be more beneficial to your mental well-being than can be imagined.
Many people have these kind of scars from chilhood , and healing is important.
Just knowing that nothing will happen to your creations is worth it alone . Do ourself a favour , you deserve it.
