    This is legit the best DJ tutorial on TH-cam. I watched the whole thing on an airplane and I’m totally blown away. The only thing he didn’t touch on was song phrasing but everything else was covered so well. My gosh, he put down so much game in this single video, I’m gobsmacked. Rest In Peace to the homie, for real. Legend.

      It’s safe to say that anyone who uses this as a training video will be light years ahead of those who don’t. There is knowledge here that is so important that it’s easy to miss. Most people I know in SF Bay Area had the tape and watched countless times as they learned to DJ. He figured it out without tutorials or TH-cam. He had to adapt musical instruments for DJ use. The Emax he’s using was originally for sampling sounds and intended as a keyboard. He figured out to use it to play words and sound effects in key.

    • @jacknjill3000
      @jacknjill3000 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is just part of his whole video. So maybe the phrasing may be covered on the other part? Also, this is like about 35 years old and back then this was way advance. You got to recognize the past and what was going on. Like Calvin Klein was a great men’s designer, but now you tell ppl. and they’re like WHAT?! Not sure what the word is, but you had to be there to fully understand. Cameron had few competitors and the ones that came up, they followed CP.

      @@jacknjill3000he only had one video. This is the complete video. He was trying to do a part 2. But never got to it since that was around the time he left KMEL and was blacklisted. I recall Ray Lum sharing that he and Rex Santa Elena filmed this video.

    I remember Cameron Paul well. I graduated from High School in 1988. Cameron Paul was the shit back then. Late Great '88 Power Mix got everyone excited. Was one of his most popular mixes ever. He's still a god in my eyes. You can tell he is not just a DJ, he is an artist. He has some good musical taste.

      He originated that mix pattern and has done it countless times in the club and in his mixes and in a Mixx It as well. I thought it was all production work until I saw this video back in 1989 when I bought it. I was amazed. Not only was he on beat and measure but the volume level was smooth too. Examples like his mixing here is what I imagine he can do against current mixing technology.

    This man was really talented. I was born in 86 so I never really grew up hearing his name that often on the airwaves coming up. I remember the MC's Chewy Gomez, Trace & Franzen from CMC though. I was curious to see how deejays did it back in the 80's especially in the Bay Area. That's when I came across this video. This man took his game to another level creating his own sample records and remixes to use during his live sets. I started deejaying a little bit in the 2000's before Pioneer CD DJ's and before Serrato, so I know how its like to haul crates of vinyl. The game was already very blessed then because many record shops were already carrying break beats of brand new hits like the Lethal Weapon remixes. Now, these new gens just plug in their phone into serrato and they got all of the new joints and remixes on there! I guess my point is that people like Cameron Paul paved the way for radio, party, and club deejays. Back then, I guess you just had to make your own break beat record, or just do it on the fly during a set. I never saw someone literally splicing a reel to reel, but what a long way we have come where now we use software like Adobe Audition to do the splitting, mixing, and multi track recording.

    I remember when this was available on VHS, and it may be vintage ancient, but you know what? from a dj who's been mixing since my first record of Reggie Griffin-Mirda Rock (sick robot voice track) I can easily say, the principles mentioned in this video exactly still apply, the pitch control, intros, breaks even outros, and if the track ends cold or warm. Any Dj who wants to do real raw mixing, it will take time, but soon, you figure it out, develope your style, be a unique dj and have a following. Vinyl record, headphones, pitch and hand to wax, old school baby, then theres flipping the record upside down with a roll of duct tape on the platter and flipping the needle upside down playing underneath. ask me what that means, youll love what happens, cheers.

    • @rufusallen8143
      @rufusallen8143 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m well aware of flipping the platter and adjusting the arm ballast to float upwards...
      You also start the needle from the center so that it tracks outward from the center...
      Talk about “devil msgs” /backward masking...this is the method...

    Any idea which vinyl/volume the "Yes, the Rhythm" record at 25:25 comes from? Is this from his own set of loops?

    • @patofthesharingan6468
      @patofthesharingan6468 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That “yes the rhythm” with the beat is actually Will To Power “say it’s gonna rain”. It’s the remix 12 inch single. “Orange sunshine dub”. The actual vocal of “yes the rhythm” is from Public Enemy. Sampling was much more creative back the.
