Relamping the Marantz 2245, 2270, 2230, etc. New Velum. We experiment with ways to make LED lighting appear more incandescent in appearance. I think the results are awesome!
Absolutely awesome job! Looks amazing! Love the heat-shrink led placement tip. Really appreciate the thought that's gone into this. A side note: If you want to try and be a real know it all (like me). You can tell your friends that those are JIS screws not Philips. You can identify them by the small dot. It stands for Japanese Industry Standard. They're slightly different than Philips and wouldn't you know it have their own screwdriver but of course Philips do seem to work fine and it seems most people in the world don't know this little factoid. I only found out about this recently myself. Google can give you the details of course. So impress your friends or loose them (depending)! Keep up the awesome work!
I'm more into tradition, so I'd go with the silver face plate. Super fun to watch you take so much care in adjusting the color and brightness of the display!
I once had a 2245, kept it about two years and sold it so I could buy a JVC integrated amp, tuner and cassette deck. I 'd love to have another Marantz receiver.
I’m 67, and in 1974 I bought a 2245, had it for 9 years, then lost it in a burglary. Two years ago when I retired, I got a nice one from a vintage HIFI guy. Just hearing that warm crystal clear sound again took me back there instantly. Newer systems just can’t replicate that sound! Hope you find one.
My 2245 has that turquoise tint on the dial. I just call it “patina”. Because after all it’s 52 years old, and even finding a tech that wants to replace velum is like finding hens teeth. These 2245 and 2270’s are the best sounding receivers ever made. I like what you did with the paint. And the two sided tape too. Super nice job dude.
Replacing vellum is more time consuming than hard. The guys that are willing to tackle the vellum behind the meters have a few trick to cut time I'm sure. Thanks!
@@kennyvanheck7175. I wouldn’t overlook the quality or warm sound of any Marantz 22XX series. I’ve heard 2215’s and 2220’s that still have that warm and punchy bass, rich midrange, and crystal clear tweeters. Even larger speakers such as HPM 100-150 or JBL 100 series can be easily driven, and sound fantastic with a 2230. Many people don’t know that most of these 22XX series 72-74 are actually pushing more power than rated. Some test at as much as 25 percent more on the scope. A 2230 is really just a slightly toned down 2245. And if I saw one in good working order, I would buy it instantly just to have it, and pass it on to another true Marantz lover! Best of luck with yours.
If you have one of these receivers, they are so worth fixing. I grew up with one of these and much of my upbringing was spent listening to one. They sound awesome and they look so nice. Just seeing this brings back lots of memories. What a great receiver.
Great work, and thanks to show the process in detail! It's also good to remind everyone that we are free to experiment all ways to reach a result we like. Not just plug & play but plug-tinker-try again-remove-change-retry and...et voila! The fun was in the journey, and it sure looks fantastic : returning a smooth warm sounding Marantz to its original subtle blue glow.
I wish I had some of the frosted bulbs, but the kit I ordered didn't come with that variety. I'd like to try them next time I'm replacing receiver lamps. Thanks!
I replaced the vellum and installed the cool blue LEDs on my 2220b. It looked purple so I had to add another layer of vellum. Now it looks perfect. I bought a reproduction faceplate from Vintage Hi Fi Audio and my 2220b looks like a museum piece. My son gave me the receiver 10 years ago and it sounded great but looked bad. Silver all the way. Your receiver looks awesome!
Great job I really like to watch the detailed work You were doing pretty amazing. I would really love to buy an old Marantz receiver, but buying one online and affording it might not happen.
Nice work. For my Rotel receiver, I bought small warm white led strips from AliExpress for next to nothing. I added a strip of tracing paper -almost the same as the vellum but I already had it in. Works well. Btw, I love the wooden prop on your wall. Something I've always wanted.

Sorry to hear about losing your 2245. Glad you found a replacement. Tough to beat these older receivers.

@@robertclark9 Both 2245 & 2270 sound great, but don’t overlook the warm sound of the little 2230.

Good video. I’m swapping my 2270 to a black faceplate & black lacquer wood cabinet next week. I call it the “Darth Vader” edition. 😂

Totally agree

Thanks! Yes, experimentation always suggested.
They now sell the warm-white, fuse-style leds with a frosted covering. (Looks like a frosted glass fuse.) They work and look fantastic.

Got the propeller used off Facebook marketplace. It's not real, but looks great. I paid $30 for it.
@PossibleAudio I need one then. That looks awesome.
@@LawsonsStudio Thanks!
Wow fantastic job!
Thank you for the kind words.
The silver face
With this faceplate being in such good condition I'm leaning that way. Thanks!
Are you gonna sell the 1060 ?
Undecided. If I do, it will be early 2025.
