as a gay man myself dorian’s story resonated so much with me, i literally cry every time. idk how but they managed to display perfectly my relationship with my father. damn dragon age always making me cry…
That scene was so beautifully and tragically written. It makes me sad that so many of us resonate with that scene, but also happy that we get to experience together the beauty of that scene when the Inquisitor supports Dorian. We all need an Inky/Dorian friendship.
It hit me so hard. Literally, so hard, it cracked me right open. Realized that I , too, couldn't spend my life screaming on the inside. One gender transition and legal name change later, well, let's just say, I named myself after the bravest man I ever knew.
Dorian's personal quest is great indeed! I am replaying Dragon Age Inquisition right now as well (fifth time) and just did Dorian's quest a few days ago myself, so the memories (and emotions) are still quite fresh. Dorian is a fantastic character in the first place, one of my favourites in DAI, and luckily the writing of his backstory and personal quest do that justice. It's emotional, grave and relevant, as in a completely believable struggle for a gay person. Admittedly, for that last point, I cannot speak from experience, being straight. However, from what I have heard and read so far about it by gay people, Dorian's story seems to be quite relatable. Love him! Also, I actually have to give Mother Giselle a break here. Yes, she is insensitive, even rude, and listens to rumours. However, personally I get the impression that she really just wants the best for the Inquisitor. That includes inquiring about an unknown foreign mage from a country that is notorious for slavery, dark magic and megalomania. Her apology after the discussion seems genuine to me and she has shown no signs of being a bad person before. Let's give her a chance to give Dorian a chance, shall we? At least for now. Anyway, have a good one everyone!
I think people fall in love with Dorian's charm and persona and forget everything Fenris told them about Tevinter, she had every reason not to trust Dorian.
Oh Shan, you're so sweet, seeing you tear up got me emotional. The Dorian personal quest really hits hard for me being a gay man, it really touches the feeling of non-acceptance, or that "love" for you is conditional despite what you've been told about family love. Even if you don't go through extremes like a conversion attempt like Dorian would have. And getting that feeling from your own home, your own family, def hits hard and somehow shapes your being for ever, in some ways. So this is an example of how this kind of quest and story can be SO WELL written, right here! 💕💕
Every mage should be really scared of possession that's like the main danger of being a mage Also bull approves of killing venatori because of the whole tevinter qunari thing! I really like bull & vivienne's banter
Using blood magic to change your gay son is so wild. I forgot some of the ways this game gets bonkers! No matter what I'm doing in a playthrough, who I'm romancing, my background, Dorian is always my best friend! I flirt with him whenever I can and would fist fight Mother Giselle if the game let me
Dorian's personal quest is such an emotional one for me, even more so as a gay woman myself. He's one of my absolute favourite video game characters and I usually play as a male in Inquisition to romance him 🤣 Even not doing his romance though, he has such a close relationship with the Inquisitor and its the start of a beautiful friendship. Also, Mother Giselle can do one. Really didnt like her after this. But Dorian's response "you can be suprised what my tongue can get me your reverence" omg 😂😂
also, I've had the worst week so far, we had to put down a beloved pet earlier this week, and so having a new video from you is helping keep my mood from plummeting through the floor. Lots of love Shan!
Nina, I am so sorry!! That is so hard and I’m sending all kinds of positive and calming vibes. Happy the upload was able to bring a little comfort to your day!
The Solas/Cullen glitch is s specific and rare I cant believe you managed to stumble into it lol. Hopefully all works out for you going forward :) Just don't flirt too much with both in offchance you get locked out of both and really lose all chances lol
I loved when you jumped to defend Dorian from the revered mother, because I was just thinking "Dorian is a character from Gaider, he got this verbal spar, you don't need to worry of him not having the last word, and i was right hahaa. I love so much about how Dorian is written, but then again I love all characters David Gaider has ever written for DA (Alistair, Morrigan, Zevran, Shale, Cass, Fenris, Cole (initially) ) so it is no surprise. He is so so so good in giving his characters depth and dimension and thus his departure from Bioware in 2016 was deeply felt. Especially in hindsight, ahem. And well for writing Dorian it helped that he too is "a catty gay man" ... his words, not mine 😂
11:00 for these specializations you can do all three quest as far as collecting all the stuff for them before fully committing so you can still decide later 14:15 lmao Your Trainer lady is hilarious! it's my fave mage spec but she doesn't really install confidence she seams loopy as hell hahahaha
OH MAN you just went into THOSE ruins? You just stepped into the middle of it! That place was creepy. Despair demons are awesome. I think Bull is so quiet because he probably peed his pants a little seeing all those frozen demons. He's not a fan.
If you had selected the options to have Dorian speak to his father instead of leaving you would find the father was there to apologize and seek forgiveness from his son that he knows he wronged, to this day and after 10 years of playing I'm not sure of the right decision of this quest.
I always chose to have them speak. Didn't really want to push it and it was uncomfortable to ask that of Dorian, but I felt it was too important to give him the opportunity to either heal or be truly heard with his friend at his back for support.
Omg the style today is such a serve Shan, I love the make up and hair! You have a very cool fashion/styling sense, is it inspired by someone/something or do you just choose what looks good to you? (Totally off topic from the game but I love fasion and make up lol.) I'm so happy about how much you love Vivienne LMAO! Your interest in her character is so refreshing, it's very entertaining to watch someone enjoys her as much as I do! Dorians story is one of the best gay stories written imo. It was a very emotional first playthrough when that quest came up. Just thinking about how accepting and kind my family were to me when I came out gay, but on the flip side so many people in the real world deal with the kind of heart breaking rejection Dorian faced from his Father, it's so sad. Such a layered tale, because I don't think Dorians dad actually hates him for it, but he is just so wrapped up in Tevinter tradition he can't let it go. Great video as always, take care and enjoy the rest of your week!
Omg that’s so nice of you to say! 🧡🥹I’d say 90% of my winter wardrobe is mens clothing with the remaining 10% being off the shoulder tops 🤣 I think I def lean more towards masc femme outfits, so probably inspired by masc lesbians honestly. Dorian’s story hit me so hard. It was beautifully told and so heartbreaking at the same time. He’s such an amazing character and I’m so glad he’s in this game and that he and Nan are so close. I love, love, love Viv! I want to just peel back all her layers and figure her out! I’m not there yet, but I feel like her story is slowly coming together!
I never get tired of praising Vivienne. Ambition is not a crime and everyone should be afraid of losing themselves. May it be servitude, dementia or demons.
Dorian's personal quest is so good it always makes me tear up. I love that man so much it hurts!!!! what his father wanted to do to him.. the blood magic conversion therapy.. it's horrific and I don't know if I would be able to forgive that... anyways Dorian is our fave bae 🥰
Take note folks: You don't try to romance both the traumatized ex-templar with magic negating power AND the dream walking fade-mage or you WILL break reality. Play with fire at your own risk, but do mind that your companions are standing right next to you. 😅
59:25 Basically think Venatori as 'Make Tevinter Great Again' faction of Tevinter. Not all Vints are Venatori but all Venatori are Vints, and I think exclusively Mage Vints.
"A necromancer? Hell Yeah!" ... "Wait! I'm a necromancer now?! I didn't know what i was doing!" Lol too funny. I never went with the necromancer option. I preferred the knight enchanter or the fade mage. If you want to know how your character will feel to play before choosing, look to your mage companions: Vivienne, Solas, and Dorian. They are your archetypes.
I love how Cullen has a few choice words for, or rather is worried about you, romance or not, when picking the Knight Enchanter option, as it involves taking lyrium.
Watching this Dorian quest is making me cry again! As a queer person, his romance hits particularly close to home. I love him so so much! He's one of my favorite romances in this game
See, Dorian is the Inquisitors soulmate, whether romantic or platonic, he is their ride or die and I love him to death. Honestly, it would have led to a better end to let them talk, though I think that is bullcrap since why would I make my bestie talk to their abuser no matter how remorseful they seem. Because it was not just a mistake his father did, he was ready to break his own convictions (he considers blood magic bad) to force dorian to do as he wanted him to do. dorian owes him absolutely nothing, let alone to let him apologise and reconnect. But, I can see why they went that route, as much as I hate it. Anyway, love Dorian! I could write paragraphs on why you should choose Cullen, but I am being a good girl and not doing that. You romance who you romance, I will laugh at your eventual pain anyway lolol
I wish we had been able to ask Dorian what he wanted because inserting Nans opinion, in front of his father, just didn’t feel great. I can completely see Dorian as a platonic soulmate! He’s such a well written character and I’m so thankful Nan has him with her! I feel like Nan is destined for heartbreak and it’s going to ruin me 😭
Oh, no Solas is still my romance! I went back and replayed hours of content just to fix the romance with him and so id have all the romance dialogue. I’m just still flirting with Cullen on the side because I’ve been told it doesn’t affect the romance 🤣.
@@_shhenanigans_ OOOhhhhh I htought you said you went back and preferred nan and solas as friends. Yay then! Still wouldve loved watching your paythrough, but now I'm gonna love it that extra bit more haha

43:04 Iron Bill LOVES dragons. Anytime you kill a dragon or a Drake he will get approval
Mother Giselle really fell from Nan's graces there ! Grand Cleric Elthina is I'm sure reveling in it from beyond the grave.
Mother Giselle is now on the list with Loghain.

The "you led me on" option for Dorian is actually very lighthearted, I think. He's a good guy.
