Honestly, I believe it's one of the best so far. Never thought I'd learn how to properly cable manage too. This guy taught me how do build a pc when I needed to build one for a project one time. It was cheap to build but worth it for the satisfaction of being able to make something that seems complicated to others, but once you understand how it works, you feel like a genius.

  • @AndrewGulick13
    @AndrewGulick13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    8.5/10:
    - The holes you drilled were bigger than they had to be. You have to hunt for them, but you can get grommets as small as 1 inch (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QMOTWI) that you could have used for the phone-charging stand (instead of the 1.5-inch ones you used), and you could have made the keyboard-wire hole smaller by running the type-C end through it instead of the type-A end
    - Not enough commitment to the color scheme:
    - The blue lights of the speakers, the blue and purple RGB on the PC, the green of the plant, the green sticker on the monitor, and the white keycaps clashed with the black/orange color scheme
    - You should have painted/wrapped the table legs orange, or black
    - You should have skinned the laptop and MX master
    - I would have given yourself some more flexibility by calling it an orange/black/gray setup, rather than just orange/black
    - The flexibility of the monitor mount could be handy, but you didn't talk about utilizing it, and based on the way you cable-managed it, I'm assuming you didn't plan on moving the monitor. With that in mind, you could have gone with a static mount to be able to have the mount point in the center of the desk rather than offset
    - I would have brought the PC cables to the back edge of the desk instead of the left edge
    - Minus 10 points for flossing
    - You didn't mention incorporating the charging cable for the laptop into the setup; how do you charge it and still have it cable-managed? (I would get a second charging cable, cable-manage one into the setup at the stand, and keep one for traveling)
    - Setup discussion didn't include a chair, so that's an unknown
    - Audio sources are a personal preference, but the lack of easy support for headphones (from a cable-management perspective) is a negative in my opinion. Also no microphone, considering its a gaming setup, is a negative
    - You didn't talk about using something like Synergy to use both the laptop and PC at the same time without having to flip switches on the peripherals; that would be a much more efficient use of the screen real estate
    - The orange trees desktop background, while orange, doesn't fit the clean aesthetic. Something more abstract, like stripes, would have been better

Me back in post lock down, I wouldn't care about cable management at all and my whole set up looks horrific. Now in 2024; realised that cable management is very important about a good looking set up; most important your room doesn't look like it came from the Amazon rain foreset. It is very satisfying to do your own cable management. Ed is a great inspiration on how to do cable management; therefore, he has an amazing person and a hard working youtuber!

I would recommend a strong velcro in place of double side tape, just in case you want to easily swap out a component without ruining your furniture. I use 3m velcro to mount most things, especially the power bar. If I want to swap it out for a different one, or adjust anything, just rip it off like a bandaid, and viola you're done.

07:35 The cylinder is called a ferrite bead, ferrite core, or, more generally, a choke. Cables can act like unintentional antennas, broadcasting electrical interference (“noise”) or picking it up. The appointed task of a ferrite core is to prevent such interference.

    why everybody likes TechSource:
Ed offers the option unlike other TH-camrs, makes everybody feel important to have options, and then everybody drops a like.

Your level of patience for cable management impresses us. lol :) nice work, although I don't think you consider it work, unless work = pleasure. If you put rgb lighting puck into the centre of the Himalayan salt lamp it makes some awesome visually pleasing effects. RGB mouse pad to go with the speakers.

The psu end of the cables are bunched and the green gsync sticker on the monitor clashes with the color scheme, so with those 2 easy to fix yet major flaws i give you a 5/10, with those fixed I’d say 8.5/10

Classic Ed, when you see it towards the end you'd know lol
I'd rate ur setup a 9/10, It's a good setup but I don't see UR personality, you are more so using a broad sense of it when you could of changed ur background image on ur computer and laptop to like ur favorite anime or meme.

Hahah) just a small tip. There’s no need to drill a huge hole for the thickest part of the keyboard usb if you can detach it. You can just drill a smaller hole just for the usb-c or micro and route it from the bottom😏

  • @oreo5533

Why didn’t Ed just drill a smaller hole for the device side for the keyboard because to me that looks like a type c or a micro usb so it is definitely much smaller than that regular usb size

  • @hunkharry5011
    @hunkharry5011 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Instead of that custom pc , you can use a Gpu box rtx 2080ti , which can be used with just a single cable from ur lg gram and gpu can power you monitor at full fps load . That will be cost effective and good for all stuff in one machine , video editing , files , games , everything in one machine.

  • @thoa459

In my honest opinion I will give u 9.5 out of 10.
    Pros:
    - the simplistic and aesthetic look.
    - the cable management of course
    - the custom keyboard
    cons:
    - I didn't like to slit the mouse pad so you can run the keyboard cable. I prefer to make the drill a hole for the cable above the mouse pad.
    [ it's just my personal opinion ]
overall You have done a perfect job. Two thumbs up

I really enjoyed the video the part I enjoyed the most though probably does not get a lot of attention. And that was the underside of the desk and the routing of the cables. I have never seen anyone devote the amount of time you did that was awesome! Something I found interesting was that you just cut slits in the wrap where you drilled the holes and that you did not remove all that wrap I liked the way you did it best. I would have liked to see more on the actual wrapping of the desk though. Anyway this is my critique of the video.

I'm currently building something like this, but I think it'll take a few more years to complete because there's still a lot missing. I'm trying to maintain my high grades in school so my parents will give me money then I'll use it to buy a monitor, table, etc. hahahaha Thank you for the inspiration Ed!!

I think u done an awesome job. My rating is 9 only b/c I don’t care for the wobble laptop mount which isn’t your fault at all. I’m actually building an i7 9700K it has a lower graphics card which is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti which I’ll upgrade in a few months, but it’s all going in the Lian Li 011 White/Case w/all Corsair RGB water cooling & extra RGB Corsair fans, & I added the T-Force 500GB RGB SSD add on, & all RGB cables, w/a red sound blaster, & bronze Corsair 750watt power supply, 4 monitors, 32” MSI Curved Gaming Monitor, 27” Samsung Curved Gaming Monitor, & a 15” ASUS Vertical Gaming Monitor that I’m using for a chat monitor, a 20” Monitor I’m mounting on the wall right above my head next 2 all my soundproof foam that’s n blue & black, I have a curved V shape desk. I added a small corner end table next 2 the end of the desk so I don’t sit my PC n the floor on carpet, I’m also using RAZER Kiyo Cameras & Logitech C920’s which there’s like 4-5 cameras for chat cam, stream cam, full set up fam, & keyboard cam. I’m also hooking my 70” TV in w/this so my family can watch me game. I’m Using Astro A40’s on the PC, & A40’s w/Mix Amp Pro on the PS4 Watch will be run to the Elgato HD60 Pro that’s internal n my PC. Then the Xbox is running to the HD60 S+, & the Nintendo Switch is running to the HD60 S. I’m Using the A50’s wireless on the Xbox One X, & Hyper X on the Switch. I have 2 XL mouse pads on my table. One on each side. One is Fortnite, the other is Gordon Hayward Hyper X, along w/2 Ducky One 2 Mini Keyboards w/Rubber keycaps. One is white & the other is black. I have 2 mice. One is the Glorious Model O, the other is a Wireless RAZER. Also for my monitors they’re on monitor mounts that’s mounted to the table. I done amazing Cable management from your videos the way u do, even using the surge box. I’m Using the Blue Yeti Mic w/Boomarm. I also mounted a huge 10 spot mechanical surge protector on the bottom of desk right above my legs w/the switches facing me so I can click which power source I need. I used the NZXT USB Hub to lay inside using adhesive tape for my hookup as RGB cables for the inside like I’ve seen u use. I purchased a new motherboard which was the AORUS Z390 Pro WiFi. I’m excited to send n pics & a full story on my PC to you. I’m not trying 2 enter it to win I just want u to see what I’ve done. Great job on everything u done here. All of your hard work has helped me along the way. TY for that.

the only thing I would change in my opinion is the keycaps, sense the setup is black with a touch of orange, I would've leave the original black keycaps and replace some of them with "tai hao rubber orange keycaps. That's it. Everything else looks perfect!
