What I love about this scene, is that it shows how powerful music can be. Vecna represents death or the grim reaper, who comes for people suffering trauma and grief - it's a metaphor for people suffering deep depression, and the demons in their head push them over the edge to end their lives. The music Max hears is her favourite song, and it reminds her of the grief of losing Billy that she's dealing with, and the love she has for her friends that are still alive. She sees them calling out to her, and on the brink of destruction, she just manages to crawl away and run back to them. Sadie SInk absolutely crushed this scene also. Just amazing.

The people saying the show should have ended already are way wrong, the show still has plenty more to offer and it’s exhibited excellently in this scene
Initially it seems that way. Like, they have tackled what seemed at the time to be the best they can tackle for each season they make. The only reason why they are disproven is because the Duffer brothers are just THAT good at upping the stakes. We literally just fought a mindflayer and got very traumatic deaths in s3 and yet somehow the stakes are even higher with Vecna. That is not an ordinary feat.
After season 3 I thought it was pretty good but probably should’ve ended by then. When I saw the trailer for season 4 I didn’t like it but wanted to give it a chance, wow did this season surprise me
@@Dookieman1975 This is usually how Dungeon and Dragons usually works. As a campaign goes on, you usually up the stakes to the point where they are fighting a god. If I had to guess, at the end of this season, Vecna will break through and come into the real world after killing 1 or 2 major characters. Because season 5 is the final season and they said season 4 was only the beginning of the end the only thing more powerfui than Vecna would be a dragon or some sort of grand Beholder which I am surprised we haven't seen yet.
I too was afraid that after s3 we were gonna hit that point that a lot of shows get to where we just entertain it bc we loved it so much from previous seasons... But GDamn did they take this season to another level... I thought the actors getting older would "ruin" how the stories were told how and we receive them, but instead they've leaned into that and we're growing up with these characters on screen facing darker and darker roads in both their personal lives and the supernatural forces they battle Bravo
Yes! I'm only on episode 3 of the new season but it has a lot left in the tank. Plus they've done a great job introducing new characters and things for them to battle. So good!
Some shows just nail their OST and Stranger Things totally did this season and your version is just heart wrenching. It pulls out the desperation and sadness that led Max to this fate, then finishes with the hopefulness and direction that pulls her back. This song is the perfect choice for her character, as it both describes how she is feeling now, and what she needs to do to recover. Bravo sir.
I cant describe how impactful was this scene to me... the music and the meaning to the episode blew my mind and it clicked on what I was going through.. I couldn't put it in words. And music could explain it but this episode told the story of how much I fight depression everyday and that little hope I run to every moment. I cried like no tomorrow.. just wanted to vent. But life is a ticking clock, even though time was made and isn't real.. its the closest thing to us that makes sense how much little of it we have and we shouldn't kill it off sooner than it's left for us.. dont neglect your friends.. cry and think of the happy times with your lost ones.. and live how they would want you to be if they was still alive... and most importantly. Find your own happiness. That is the final tide in order the rest to fall in place. That's what I learned and just this episode. Helped me to keep my sanity.
Stranger things is an EPIC The actors are EPIC The Duffer Brothers are EPIC The scene of this bgm is an EPIC Samuel kim musics are EPIC This one hour really EPIC! Kate Bush is an EPIC!! SAMUEL KIM you are EPIC of the EPIC!!!
Stranger Things is the only Series next to GoT and Sopranos where I can connect the music with every second of a scene and give me goose bumps. I'm so glad and humbled and greatful to witness that great pieces of art. Peace to all of you.
I lost my Brother in 2013. He just went to sleep and didn't wake up. This song is so beautiful. It makes me cry but it's a good cry. Thank you for that. ❤️
this season truly broke the boundaries of fiction, i'm just so shocked on how phenomenal this season (volume) was. volume 2 is less than a month away and i'm not even ready!!!!
I have to disagree about it breaking the boundtries of fiction. Everything that happens in the writing of this show has been done multiple times before. BUT the excecution is flawless. It has the emotional arc of serial shows like Buffy back in the day but the streaming-age's ability to write complete arcs from the start so that there is absolutely no redunancy and the world-building works seemlessly. It feels like a bit of a coming-of-age moment in television for me in some ways.
It definitely is doing things that other shows don't do well or at all. The way it has basically three different genres doing on ( someone else pointed this out to me) and how they all work together is awesome.
I wish we could capture the intense emotion, and relief this had in watching it for the first time. And have that feeling forever. Music is life's global bridge. Thanks for continuing to build bridges with your music.
Netflix auto-played the next episode when I first watched. Didn't realize there was an orchestral version until I saw this posted. On second viewing, I just sat there, credits rolling, just taking it all in. Well done as always with your version. The original song is so moving as is and this version is other worldly.. goosebumps every time I hear it.
If they had run a similar slowed/epic version like this into those last couple seconds of the chase when they slowed it down with the world falling all around her... yeah, I would have been a goner, especially followed up by the slow, quiet at the end when Max wakes up in Lucas' arms... This is just amazing
I thought the EXACT same thing! This version should’ve kicked in when she was having flashback memories of her friends, then it should’ve played epically through to the end of the show! Would’ve blown everyone away!
Can't stop crying, this version is absolutely so beautiful... made me feel of all emotions of that episode again, Max struggling against her grief and guilty, this is so real... just wanna hug her too...
Honestly, the episode was just perfect. The running just shows what amazing direction, acting, plus great soundtrack can do together. 10/10. It got me emotional!
The fact that she wants to make a deal with god , shows how truly deep this song is . Wanting to switch places with billy … man this scene made me choke and I truly felt her pain when she ran 🔥🔥
When I first heard the original 3 minute version of this, I was blown away. My first thought after that was, “it’s extraordinary…it can’t be over after only 3 minutes! So I made a deal with God and got this incredible hour long version🥹 Samuel Kim always comes through…
I heard season 4 was darker and with the Characters growing up, I feared it would ruin the nostalgia I felt watching how it began with the crew riding their bikes together and going to the arcades. I felt like I was right there with them as I was born in 77 and grew up watching Back to the future in the theater. This season came and blew my mind! This scene in particular. Watching Max look out at her friends as she struggled to fight back, then all of the flashbacks of her good times with them! Really tugged at my heart strings. What an amazing Series and what a song choice. BRAVO
I think this version shows a little bit more what grief feels like because of the instruments and what they make you feel and how powerful they are. For me you can hear what it means to go through grief. It's hard and sometimes it feels like you have to carry a burden on your shoulder you can't carry. Sometimes it's easier and kinda quit but there are waves of sadness that hit so hard that you think this pain will never go away and you will never be happy again. It feels like no one ever will understand what you feel. Sometimes you feel like you can't do anything about it but you want them back no matter what you have to give or what it costs. It's always there and it always be there but you learn to except that feeling and the pain. I loved this episode because I felt understood.
It's a pity, I think there is not more vocals because this is the best part! It's a very nice remix and I think I will listen to it again and again during my days! Good work !!
kate bush remains eternal and seeing a young girl listen to this magnificent song over and over in this series is simply magical! thanks to stranger things for rocking us hits from the 80s...
This became one of my favorite songs because max was really a way of telling a story of people who have gone through so much trauma and just want to, well die, but max fought her way just like how the people who are still on this earth fighting
Listening to this and thinking about the scene just made me cry. It shows that depression isn't easy to go throw, I have been through it before but not like this, she is running for her life. She wants to make a deal with God, a person I don't believe in ; do you. Escape your bad thoughts and push through, it shows you can do it and make it through to what you want to do in life ; try your best and never give up. Don't let things get in your way and stop, like this scene Max didn't let Vecna get in her way and take her. She was going through trauma from what happend to Billy - she didn't let that stop her. Although she was overwhelmed and depressed - she didn't show depression because depression is not who we stand as. We are not depression. We shall Not hide from what we've been through. We do not push through to things that are bad but good. We are humans. We have this world to us and we won't hide. We do our best and push through hard times. We are not hidden feelings. If someone doesn't look right ask them whats going on help them talk to them be open to them. Help them get through their bad or tough times. We shall not hide from out true feelings deal with the truth and push through it. 《Rowan Wood》[6/6/2022] {Watching from the UK}
The reason this scene and episode was so good and hit so in the feels was that everyone genuinely feared max would die, it definitely could have gone either way.
@david manuel holguin it is not the final season, season 5 will be - but chances are high Max is killed in vol 2 with the letters still there and making it even sadder in the end :/
This song reminds me of my cousin who passed away last year. He was like my big brother, but because of my family's problem, our parents hate each other. I always think that I should be the one who died, not him. He was a good teacher who have a big dream to become a great engineer while I'm only an artist and failed everything. I can't stop imagining what we could have done as a brother and a sister. I wish our parents and us still have a chance to celebrate your birthday this year. Now I'm stuck with my family issue, and the one whom I can talk to is gone. I'm helpless and just lost. It's really hard to move on. Miss you so much U_U
Valeepon Khovigul, you have to live your life as a celebration of your cousin, you know deep inside he would want you to live a full authentic life. Life can be terrible but also wonderful, live it ! Good luck !!!
God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs (3:173). Have faith and practice patience, your test is difficult. May you find peace.
This is heart breakingly beautiful. Salute. I cannot pick a favourite song but Running up that Hill is in my top 5 and I have listened to it hundreds of time a year every year for over 30 years. This song mixed with the story and Sadie's incredible performance has given me the greatest piece of television I have ever experienced. I am truely obsessed all over again.
I love this song!!! and I think it is the best season of Stranger Things, it shows you the vulnerability of the characters, that they are as human as anyone and despite that, they try to help even knowing that they put their lives at risk, It shows you the best of human beings. The scene where Max falls and struggles to want to live, makes you see that life, despite being sometimes hard or difficult, is still very precious. I hope that the fifth and final season will be an event that leaves us breathless and with a feeling of joy and reflection. This series changed the way of making series on Netflix and I hope that more series like this will come.
I'm so glad that I can hear this version. Tbh because of the stranger thing, it was the first time I heard Running Up That Hill, and it gave me so much courage to face the difficulties in front of me. I'm not sure why, but I literally cried whenever I heard this song. Like it triggered something deep in my heart. Again, I really appreciate that you made this version. Super epic!!!!
1 of my favorite episodes of the series cause it shows what many have dealt/are dealing with daily irl n that's the grief, despair, depression trauma leaves in its wake. Vecna is the embodiment of depression n despair. Max like many irl has to ultimately make the choice to let depression drag you down, feeling alone, dead inside wanting an end or to live. You find that thing to live for which empowers you to claw n fight against the darkness inside cause it's worth it. Max feeling dragged down realizes, when the portal opened, she wasn't alone. Her friends are there for her, love her, want her back, n not just in this dark moment but have always been there as her memories remind her of that n the good/happy times. Max chooses to live n she fights to get back to her reasons to live n that's her loved ones, friends n family. This episode had me emotional as someone who has depression to see Max overcome hers n make it back to her friends had me overwhelmed with happiness.
Having worked on the VFX of this sequence and also being a big fan of your work I'm super happy to see you publishing this version ! Thanks and keep up the amazing work :)

This is gorgeous - great job! I was a teenager in the 80's and I am a fan of Stranger Things. This was one of my favourite songs too back in the day when I was Max's character's age.
This is so beautiful. The details ! I wish I could get into the picture and have a closer look at these shop windows. And, again, I love the fact that we can see people moving!
This scene was the major emotional highlight from Season 04 and gosh it was so well done !! Everything about this entire scene was so powerful !! Kudos to team stranger things and Sadie sink for the amazing portrayal of this beautiful scene !! Again a banger Samuel keep the good work up !!
This song really spoke to me. Im only three episodes into the show, so I don't really understand the context yet. I lost my little brother in April. And this just makes me think of him. We both enjoyed stranger things and your music very much. Thank you so much for this song.
As a young girl in the 80 I had a walkmen ( white sony) and this was also one of my favourite songs. I was a emo child, full of emotions. This episode of the Stranger things made me remember my own childhood. It is the most epic scene with Max running out of the upsidedown. This is amazing, so sad and the feeling of guilt that washes over this piece. If I suggest any song to be next it's Episode 7's; "Akhnaten Act I, Scene 3 Window of Appearances"
I was one of those people when season 4 was finally out that didn’t even want to watch it because it really resolved itself last season in a way I could be satisfied with and the only loose ends as far as I was really concerned at digging were things that a lot of correctors and show writers aren’t really willing to get into, and when they try it comes off hollow- ex. Survivors guilt and trauma. But the way they did this scene and honestly all of maxs plot line has me really hopeful for the rest of season 4 when it comes out.
I can actually see this version being played. Would of definitely added to the dramatic emotion in the scene. This is really a good version of an already amazing song.
I love this scene, it’s by far of it not my favorite scene in this season. Max’s character had amazing development this season, props to Sadie’s acting and the writing team.

Nearly 5 months ago I had depression and thought about taking my life. I got depressed because I couldn't hear well and I went to the ear specialist and he told me it was going to be permanent that it was secondary to the chronic use of headphones... Since I have used them for about 20 years...Even though I couldn't hear well almost nobody believed me and told me that it was anxiety and depression... My dad who is also a doctor told me to stop being anxious and depressed... It got to be very frustrating.... would only want to sleep all day... I wouldn't eat... I thought my medical career was over... The ear specialist only gave me medication that would put me even more to sleep... Thanks to my mother, sister and nephew that gave me words of encouragement that I had to try to move forward with my life even though I couldn't hear well I started to try to find my diagnosis... I started searching for my symptoms and was able to diagnose my self from reading from multiple articles... I had conductive hearing loss secondary to deviated septum that caused eustachian tube dysfunction so my tympanic membrane wouldn't move... I got surgery 4 weeks ago... Right now I feel 85% better... When I saw Max's scene I cried... It depicted to perfection what I felt... The monster in my head being my fear telling me it was over to take my life.... That I was done... I couldn't practice my medical career if I couldn't listen... But thanks to that circle of light that were my mother, my sister and my nephew I was able to overcome my Vecna and diagnose myself to overcome my disease and find the strength to live....
My ex has been living rent-free in my head for a while so I decided to kick it with this song, and sure enough... the demon is gone and I have been running up that hill ever since.

Helped me to keep my sanity.
this reflection was everything. thank you for that. a huge hug for u
@@poxamerry thank you soo much and a big hug for you too!
if you have depression you should get treated for parasites or it's lack of oxygen to your brain, in which case i would ozone therapy.
Stranger things is an EPIC

Stranger Things is the only Series next to GoT and Sopranos where I can connect the music with every second of a scene and give me goose bumps. I'm so glad and humbled and greatful to witness that great pieces of art. Peace to all of you.
If Vecna tries to possess me for an hour, I'll play this song out loud
You don't have to do that if you're not afraid of your emotions and put them into the table without labeling them as good or bad 🎧
just rick roll it, he will dance with you
Vecna be like: 🤨
Same
I though the same loool 😂

i love what i see behind
I lost my Brother in 2013. He just went to sleep and didn't wake up. This song is so beautiful. It makes me cry but it's a good cry. Thank you for that. ❤️
Thats truly horrible.. RIP..

this season truly broke the boundaries of fiction, i'm just so shocked on how phenomenal this season (volume) was. volume 2 is less than a month away and i'm not even ready!!!!
I’m ready 🤍🤍😭
Sadie Sink is truly incredible. What a talented actor
i love that actor she is so acting like one which is why i love you...
I wish we could capture the intense emotion, and relief this had in watching it for the first time. And have that feeling forever. Music is life's global bridge. Thanks for continuing to build bridges with your music.
Beautifully articulated...
The end credit version is called “Paris End Credit Version” you can find it on TH-cam as well.
Would’ve blown everyone away!
ithink this wouldve better as a resolution song, replacing the classic theme in the credits with this
Can't stop crying, this version is absolutely so beautiful... made me feel of all emotions of that episode again, Max struggling against her grief and guilty, this is so real... just wanna hug her too...
Yes, I couldnt stop crying after realising that for some time.
I cried... manly tears i cried...
Listening to this and thinking about the scene just made me cry. It shows that depression isn't easy to go throw, I have been through it before but not like this, she is running for her life. She wants to make a deal with God, a person I don't believe in ; do you. Escape your bad thoughts and push through, it shows you can do it and make it through to what you want to do in life ; try your best and never give up. Don't let things get in your way and stop, like this scene Max didn't let Vecna get in her way and take her. She was going through trauma from what happend to Billy - she didn't let that stop her. Although she was overwhelmed and depressed - she didn't show depression because depression is not who we stand as.
We are not depression.
We shall Not hide from what we've been through.
We do not push through to things that are bad but good.
We are humans.
We have this world to us and we won't hide.
We do our best and push through hard times.
We are not hidden feelings.
If someone doesn't look right ask them whats going on help them talk to them be open to them.
Help them get through their bad or tough times.
We shall not hide from out true feelings deal with the truth and push through it.
《Rowan Wood》[6/6/2022] {Watching from the UK}
Hey I’m from the future, get ready for depression.
Glad we got an hour long version, my finger was starting to cramp from hitting the replay button
Hearing this song in the show was amazing and so fitting, but this, this is magical.
dear billy is one of the best episodes of tv ive ever seen. holding a spot in my favorites with mandalorian episode 3
So sorry for your loss, please keep on going. You deserve to live a good life.
Love how this song and this scene has put Max/Sadie Sink more into the spot light.
Season 4 was amazing , the best until now
it still isnt over!
Yeah I thought season 3 was great, but this..this just hits on a different level
Infinite gratitude to the geniuses of musical science.
The 80s music bring back many beautiful memory. Thanks Stranger Things 4
This music is a Masterpiece this was the most emmotional moment in Season 4
This is gonna be my favorite song and video for the coming days. This scene was so beautiful and makes the music even more powerful.
This guy exactly knew what is needed for his audience 🥺
I'm so glad that I can hear this version. Tbh because of the stranger thing, it was the first time I heard Running Up That Hill, and it gave me so much courage to face the difficulties in front of me. I'm not sure why, but I literally cried whenever I heard this song. Like it triggered something deep in my heart. Again, I really appreciate that you made this version. Super epic!!!!
Thank you stranger things, for giving me comfort characters when i had no one .....Thank you Sam, you don't know what this means to me.

So in awe of this show! Music and stories are epic.
Max has, firmly, become my favorite character in the Stranger Things!
This mix pulls on the emotional strings like no other I've listened to. Literally from chills to almost tears and back. Glad Kate could get a new generation to know her music.
This is gorgeous - great job! I was a teenager in the 80's and I am a fan of Stranger Things. This was one of my favourite songs too back in the day when I was Max's character's age.
Me too. Such a strange experience hearing this song come back to life, eh?
Same.
Isn't that great? All these countries...I believe in mankind...I wish all of you all the best....peace, happiness and love
Yessssss, now I can listen to an hour straight instead of manually repeating the song 🙏 Thank you !

This is so beautiful. The details ! I wish I could get into the picture and have a closer look at these shop windows. And, again, I love the fact that we can see people moving!
Omg this cello version is so beautiful
I was waiting for the 1 hour version of this masterpiece… so thank U for the gift.
Never seen Stranger Things, I was just looking for music with Kate Bush, and this among many came up, now I have to see Strangerthings:)
This song really spoke to me. Im only three episodes into the show, so I don't really understand the context yet. I lost my little brother in April. And this just makes me think of him. We both enjoyed stranger things and your music very much. Thank you so much for this song.

I'm sorry for your loss
I’m sorry for you loss. Prepare yourself for the 4th episode…
As a young girl in the 80 I had a walkmen ( white sony) and this was also one of my favourite songs. I was a emo child, full of emotions. This episode of the Stranger things made me remember my own childhood. It is the most epic scene with Max running out of the upsidedown. I love this series so much and I'm already sad that its going to end :( Samuel thank you for the remix, love it !!
I can listen to this on repeat. It soothes my soul. Thanks for making this!

This is amazing, so sad and the feeling of guilt that washes over this piece.
If I suggest any song to be next it's Episode 7's; "Akhnaten Act I, Scene 3 Window of Appearances"
Wow this is absolutely stunning, it’s touches the soul. Love always wins
Incredible orchestra, and Sorah's vocals are so amazing you should produce the full song lyrics with her!!
I love you so much! I’ve been a huge fan for the longest time, your work is incredible and I always become moved and emotional from your works!
I Really Love This! I think something that would make it even better is getting rid of the words and instead have violins to play the words.
This ost makes me feel relaxed everytime i listen to this w a beautiful ost I've heard so far from this season its so perfect 🔥🔥
This is. Beautiful. Thank you.
I can actually see this version being played. Would of definitely added to the dramatic emotion in the scene. This is really a good version of an already amazing song.
They actually played a stripped orchestral version after Max escaped. Its subtle but it was a great addition
I love this song! You made a best music soundtrack!

I love this scene, it’s by far of it not my favorite scene in this season. Max’s character had amazing development this season, props to Sadie’s acting and the writing team.
I am blown away by this orchestration : ) Truly magnificent!
This whole sequence was spine chillingly good.

My ex has been living rent-free in my head for a while so I decided to kick it with this song, and sure enough... the demon is gone and I have been running up that hill ever since.
literally, my favorite to write to!! I've been using it for the past few writing sessions! Thank you!!
