The questions you ask are simply better, smarter, and more thoroughly thought out than everybody else's.

Great interview Ron.Had the pleasure of listening to the Lyras alongside Andy in his listening room at the factory. Was a great experience and Any is such great guy. I only have the aviors at this point but I find the sound of all the Rockport speakers very musical and inviting.I have also listened to the Cygnus quite a bit.Really enjoy your interview series.Thx

Each person puts different weights on the several sonic parameters. For me, the Arrakis is still their best loudspeaker, maybe the best loudspeaker of any brand. The Lyra has more resolution in the midrange, but less body, and less low frequency extension, so the Lyras need subwoofers.

"Each person puts different weights on the several sonic parameters." I completely agree! (I wish more people recognized this point.)
I would put subwoofers on Lyras, as well. But I am somebody who would put subwoofers on a ham sandwich.

@@richardclay8194. As far as I know, each Arrakis, a four way design, has one 1” dome tweeter, two 5 1/2” midranges, two 8” woofers and two 15” woofers. I don’t know the crossover points.
Each Lyra, a 3.5 way design, as one 1” tweeter, two 5 1/2” mids, and two 10” woofers. If I remember correctly, only one midrange operates from 1Khz down to 400hz, then the two mids operate from 400hz to 250hz and the woofers below 250hz.
I have heard the Arrakis (active configuration) twice and the Lyra several times. In mu experience the Lyra has more detail, has a faster midrange. The Arrakis is better in terms of midrange body, visceral impact, dinamics, and low end extension. In my oppinion, the Lyra probably needs a well integrated pair of subwoofers (I have never heard Lyras with subwoofers).

Great questions, and great interview - Thank you! A smaller version of the Orion sounds interesting. I wonder what their time frame is for this?

I don't know the time frame.

Interesting topics. I would ask him about pros/cons of ported design vs passive radiator. And also, why just not make a cabinet of pure titanium , tubus shaped? no bracing no complex shapes... Another question- why boxed woofer with open baffle mid-highs is a bad integration? Legacy does this, Nola, Piega, Martin Logan, JansZen

      Hi!
      Thank you for your comments!
I can cover only so many topics in less than 30 minutes.😊 Andy did a fantastic job of answering questions succinctly, so we were able to cover a lot of ground.
Andy did not suggest that boxed woofer with open baffle midrange and treble is a bad integration. When he asked me to clarify the question I responded that I was referring to full open baffle design.

Thanks for clarification. Please check my interview with designer of zeta zero omni speakers on my channel, his very advanced speakers are not marketed in US. I cover many technical issues with him: th-cam.com/video/NaE9MP7zIYY/w-d-xo.html @@whatsbestforum
