- Changan is selling Alsvin in Pakistan at the highest premium in the world, and if you dare ask a question there is a troll Patrol to try and GAG with their "extensive" knowledge.
For a new entrant about which there are no details or history on its performace and components, there is a need to ask questions and get some honest answers.
Changan claims to be "breaking" the status quo but the way its going may be its going to be the epitome of status quo.
This video is an anwer to the questions raised on my question inquiring about the valvetrain mechanism.

That article was written by an Alsvin fan who is running a facebook page. Wasn't written by an official
Yeah I guessed so, I never wanted to reply to this article, but I need to ask more questions and I thought I should clear the air before I raise any further Qs. The issue is that even if I have zero tech knowledge a question, if valid, deserves a proper answer. tankeed barae tankeed and that with false info and allegation is just toxic. I am no member of any fan clubs but I have observed a lot of toxicity recently.
Also what you presented as an answer with the video showing a chain is exactly how this question should have been answered in the first place. So i thank you (hoping that you were the one who made that video). As far as I know no one had a real idea what was actually in the engine. And now after the question was raised and the answer video with the chain in it solves it. I think that serves Alsvin better and in no way harms its repputation.

I suggest you move on and keep making good videos. No one in Pakistan has ever made such good automotive videos in Urdu language. Very informative, please also tell about interference engine(valve and piston using the same space/volume), but I would like to add that previously 4stroke engines did not use timing chains or belts, they only used timing gears as there was no concept of OHC (over head cam), and used push rods to operate the valves, (the camshaft was below the valves)Americans still use pushrod engines in hellcat, it is actually a hemi engine and capable of producing 800+ hp, Then engineers realized that we should remove pushrods (to decrease rotational mass and vibrations produces by the rapid change in direction of motion(velocity) of pushrod)(means agar koi mass apni rapidly velocity/direction of motion change kare so it introduces losses and vibrations)(they even had to use counter weights in order to balance secondary and primary engine imbalance) and they found a was to install the cam shaft over the valves and so in order to connect/synchronize the cam shaft with the crank shaft with a 2:1 ratio they need to bridge the gap via a chain or a belt.
We first used chains in most of our applications but then in the 1980 materials were sufficient enough that timing belts could last over 50k kms, so we started using belts and in the 1990's till early 2000's most(majority) cars used belts but then there came an issue of interference engine(valve and piston using the same space/volume) mtlb if your timing belt goes your engine goes with it, valve collide with the pistons and bye bye engine.
But these days engineers are coming back to timing chains as chains are much more durable.
It is my own opinion that timing belt were planned obsolescence (engineered to fail) so that people should buy new cars after every 100k kms or 10 years which ever comes first.
But that does not mean that chains are foolproof BMW used cheap tensioners resulting in chain skipping and buy buy engine,
Pushrods engines were made to last but these belts are engineered to fail after a certain time.
Secondly the claim that timing belt is outside and chain is inside is partly( 50% ) true, as timing belt is not isolated from the environment and most project builders do not even cover them up, because they need to advance and/or retarding timing which ever is suitable for the given condition, (mostly in high rpm conditions people retard the timing).

I think it would be fine during normal maintainance. But once the car starts needing spares it might be an issue. That is why I blv that Chinese origin cars should be priced much lower than the Japanese counterparts like the rest of the world

Metal covering chain can also be remove through nuts . After removing water body and crank pulley. Advantage of metal cover is that crank and cam seals are no more vulnerable. As in timing belt engines cam and crank seals are more vulnerable because when seal leak oil come coming out through belt case. So metal cover is more better as it is properly sealed.

Excellent decision. It doesn't matter if an engine has belt or chain. They are both absolutely fine. But it's imp to know what kinda valve train one has to prepare for future maintainance etc.
But Sportage has a chain driven engine.

Btw consider doing a suspension comparison between Saga Pak variant with Alsivin. I've driven Saga but not n Pakistan and I've not driven Alsvin either but I've heard Saga has a better drive quality than Alsvin. I cant really say k sirf mashoori ya real.
Saga suspension will be better than even city and yaris. I mentioned in my last saga video, Saga suspension has 3 point body anchorage (the only car in segment A and B to have that). the body is much stiffer along with a proper screwed front strut bar, though I havent driven it myself, but this is one spec which just by lookin at it you know its properly done.

dear your R&D is incomplete coz I've confirmed from changan technical guy who took 7 days engine trainaing in karachi, he said it's 100 % chain driven.
I didn't say it's belt drive, that was already covered in last video.

However I have given compafed both and I think Yaris is a better value for money here, city and alsvin are over priced. But if u think Yaris shape is not for you, than you should decide between alsvin and city

Changan is a big company, if somebody raises question on engine components of Changan then he is a joke. Developing an engine is not a joke, not a single company in pakistan able to develop a reliable engine Untill now for public transport vehicles.
Only thing that will be in question regarding Changan will be service life of parts and built quality overall compared to Toyota and Honda.

I have budget of 20 to 22 laks
If you want a hatch back, picanto is miles ahead of cultus in build quality. Cultus has a better fuel average. In my experience the economy diff is not more than 2kmpl with my driving style.
If you want a sedan, Alsvin Manual is the biggest car in this range, and imo the best option in all of alsvin models. I myself prefer the proton Saga, but we dont know about its delivery times. I think Saga will be one of the best sellers in Pakistan if AL-Hajj do some good work
