Another thing to add: I've personally run the weapon light version of the HL-X (which is literally the exact same light but with a body that is compatible with surefire scout light mounts for rifles) for multiple years, and a lot of smaller police departments in the US use the HL-X on their patrol rifles. It's a good budget light that is durable and reliable. The new upgraded HL-X PRO is the exact same light externally but with double the candela at around 50,000 and a new tailcap design that allows you to have a clicky switch AND plug in an external tape switch instead of having it integrated into the tailcap and having to choose one or the other (which is a great improvement because unscrewing the tailcap and twisting the wire was the #1 cause of failure for the tape switch)
The new HL-X PRO tailcap is also backwards compatible for those who want the better tailcap design but don't want to buy a whole new light (or for people who buy a Goonbeam and don't like the old streamlight tape switch tailcap that they ship with)
I also carried the HL-USB light for years and the charging port on mine only worked once and then I ended up having to switch the proprietary battery out for a regular 18650. I carried it for years as I said just fine, but I am a large guy who generally wears cargo pants or similar. The light can get warm but I wouldn't say hot enough to burn you, mine got turned on in my pocket one summer day while I was working on a deck and it ran for probably 30 minutes before i noticed one leg was hotter than the other, no burns but it was uncomfortably warm until i let it cool off. The section of the body that hides the charging port will periodically get gunk in there so you can take the head off and then slide that portion off completely to wipe it clean and there are two O-rings on either side of the charging port to keep out dust or water, just a dab of grease or vaseline on those O-rings will help a ton with keeping that port clean. I gave my younger brother the HL-USB when he graduated USMC boot camp and got his duty station so he'd have a good solid light without having to buy one, and I sold the rifle mount HL-X to a friend who needed a rifle light when I upgraded to the HL-X PRO.
Streamlight is probably the best light for someone who needs a dependable everyday flashlight but isn't a "flashlight person": they're a known quantity, there tough as nails, they're relatively inexpensive for an actual good flashlight and not one of the cheap "gas station" flashlights that last like two weeks and then break.
Overall they're both decent lights and were great when they were first released, but now they're often outperformed by lights at comparable and sometimes lower prices.

I have the hlx mlok mount on a rifle. Its an incredible rifle light! Set it to high only and forget it. It comes with a tape switch as well. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking! 😂🤣

I recently upgraded to the HL-X PRO and it's such a great light for the money, it's roughly the same performance as the Modlite PLH V2 but for half the price with an included mount and tape switch. I also ran the original HL-X for years and it's still a solid light, I sold it to my best friend who didn't have a light on his rifle so he'd have a light he could trust.

@@Kross8761 nice. I heard streamlight might sell the hlx pro tail cap separately. I might pick that up. So far, so good with the standard hlx. I got it just before the pro came out.

What’s next on the menu Mr. Mike? Also, you can buy the protac HL-X for around $90 USD here in the U.S.

Do you have a synthetic grease? Great lubricant for squeaky threads.

I run my HLX in the 18650 Streamlight, works well as a emergency Car light
