Anthem had every reason to exist. That was never an issue, the idea was great. The gameplay and basics of the game were great, its just that it being turned into a "Live Service" game and then launched with literally no content killed it before it had any chance. If everything that was promised were delivered, it would have been a blockbuster. Controls and shooting felt great, flying in the game was awesome. Its just that there was never any reason to play the game, shitty unlocks, no story, buggy, loading screens more than the game etc etc. I wish Anthem would be revived by someone who actually knows what they are doing, like Destiny devs Bungie or Warframe devs Digital Extremes.
Honestly I love the game just to play a game about shooting and flying. I completely agree that the story didn't last as long as I wanted but was still fun.
Actually, Anthem never existed to begin with. The "trailer" we were shown and advertised as actual gameplay was in fact the exact same type of fluff that was presented to the head honcho who greenlight them. The game was in perpetual development hell from immense lack of leadership. Could they make a great game out of the concept? Maybe, but the problem was the entire game was pitched around a lie to begin with. If the game was build around a solid story, single or multiplayer, it might have stood a chance. But the vision you're imagining for the game, actually was never there. The dev's had no idea what to do with the product and the team's experience was with story games, on-top of having just lost a lot their aged veterans. They were being asked to make something so outside of their spectrum, that all we got from the release was the echo's of an idea that was really an extremely infantile alpha concept that got forced to the frontline. If you are curious you can read-up a bit on some of what was shared about the project in various interview articles and backroom discussions.
Rhas, you haven’t played the game. Or at least that’s what your claims would suggest about you. Because I can confirm there was in fact a solid story (with the main story surprising me at times and managing to elicit emotions to an extent, along side various interesting side stories.) And multiplayer can be fun, although not to the potential it could’ve reached. The main issue I found in playing it, was the lack of quantity in content. The content given had depth, however, there was very little of it. For instance, raids. Fun to play, gives good loot, gets people together. The game had 3 different raids. The raids themselves were well designed, but there’s only so many time you can play the same 3 raids. Since it’s $0.01 at game stop, or on a Microsoft game pass, I recommend giving it a shot to see for yourself. Even as unfulfilled as it is, it’s definitely worth the asking price now.
@@facetiousmarbles3539 Sorry for unclarity, I am talking about its unhealthy DEVELOPMENT cycle and how it came to exist in the first place. Regardless of it's current state or contents therein, the game was built upon a lie, and wasn't even given time to be finished. For the record, I did pick up the game from the hock shop, for $5, to play a slight bit with my friend who went headfirst into pre-order. It was quite sad because even after all that time we still ran into a bug that prevented us from progressing a few missions. What I am saying is, in the games CONCEPTION, all they really had at the time was the idea of the suits and flight. The game progressed from there MORE out of necessity rather than creativity. Again the studio recently lost a fair number of senior and lead staff. Anthem was an early conceived prototype of a game, shoved and stuffed with story, gameplay and mechanics then sold as a finished product. The game was literally built "in seven to nine months" after having had SEVEN YEARS to make the game. So no friend, Anthem never truly existed, and it is quite sad as it could have been great.

Technically any Amalgam is 1 in 85 billion because of the sheer amount of RNG involved in the various stats as well as skills it provides. This particular one was just a very good roll with all damage passive abilities and the preferred skills attached to it.
The item itself is not rare, the rare thing is the attributes it had, in the community these are called god rolls, when an already rare items has good passives that synergise with either the item itself or the build of your character, the thing is that this guy did not get a god roll, he literally got the *PERFECT* roll, literally the best it could ever be, and the combined probabilities of these ultra rare perfect passives to appear by themselves combined made it a 1 in 85 billon
6:25 as someone who's introduction into video games some twenty odd years ago was for Physical Therapy/ Mental Development reasons (I had a bad seizure as a child and essentially lost a couple years of mental development because of it) this attitude that video games are a waste of time or rotting your brain is just mind numbing to me every single time I hear it. As someone who now works at a game store, I hear this a lot and it never gets even remotely less annoying to have to explain against. At this point, I've just straight up stopped trying. But to see these repeated wins in studies and other people's experiences definitely alleviates that a little bit. I mean, I wouldn't have been able to write on straight lined paper without these things (let alone have thousands of hours of good times both solo and with some mates). Video games rock and so do y'all.
And Gaming helps with Therapy. Good thing it also helps with things such as Mental problems and all those. I can understand about how annoying it is when people kept saying that gaming is 'Rotting your brain' or 'make you stupid' excuses most of the time. A 'Waste of Time' is half-true, cause it does distract you a lot from you doing other works at some point. Thus, need self reminder or parents supervision for that case.
My former ceo said this to me recently and it blew my mind because he hates video games (I think he said *loathes*?) for this reason but his favourite hobby is watching other people play sports. SURELY doing a thing is more engaging and thus does more for your brain development than watching a thing? And like, no knock on watching sports; I watch speedruns, but I feel like if you think games make you dumb, how is it that you can think sports don't? How does the logic apply to one and not the other?? Makes no sense.
Get some pamphlets written up and printed out with all the info explaining what a stupid idea that is, keep them at the counter and hand them out! Video games are an artform, and not only that an artform which can improve your own skills and abilities and knowledge just by experiencing it.
I'm enjoying Multiversus a lot so far. A free to play game with a paywall that locks cosmetic content is common sense, not weird news. Surely most people would never even consider spending $255 to unlock a load of cosmetics - that's what is weird, people who do that.
@@DustinLittlefield sorry do you mean me or the guy in the video? I agree with you! It's crazy that people buy all the skins. I'm saying it's to be expected that these games lock cosmetics behind a paywall, but I personally never consider buying everything a f2p game has to offer.
@@onlyadamrosa That's because the goal of these cosmetics isn't to appeal to everyone. The goal is to have enough for everyone. Hence the price of the total shop being insane. The real thing to consider is the total price of YOUR shop.

I would rather pay full price for the whole game than have to pay $5 every week for a new cosmetic item that they somehow fantasized is worth that much. F2P live service games are killing the industry. If you want to make money off a game, simply make it cost money... it is that simple. Developers have been doing it since video games were created.
I don't get why MultiVersus is a story. You said it yourself: you can unlock all the characters by playing. And cosmetic stuff being extra paid? Gamers for years have been saying that "if there have to by monetization, let it only be cosmetics"

Multiversus is not a cash grab. You can easily unlock all of the characters by just playing the game normally. I only have a few hours in the game and have already unlocked several characters.
Love Gameranx, but there's a weird distaste for Multiversus. Since when do we judge a f2p games monetization by the cost of every cosmetic in the game? Especially when the game allows you to use every character in local play, you can try every character before you spend the free currency, and you can try the skins before you buy it. Sure you can say it's a bit too much to earn every single character in the game with the free currency. Also I appreciate you can earn seemingly almost everything playing against bots. Multiversus has it's issues, and I agree the skin prices are high, but the game is super f2p friendly.

MultiVersus is free to play so it having only cosmetics be the purchase point should be a good thing considering you’re not paying for a season pass of new characters like most fighting games.
I have no interest in Multi Versus or whatever, but from what you describe, the microtransactions sound fine. If you can unlock all the characters through playing and the only thing you pay for are cosmetics, what's the issue? It's better than Smash, where you have to buy all the the extra fighters. And if it's only $255 to unlock every single thing for all the fighters, that also sounds fine, because most people aren't going to be unlocking it all: They'll be buying a couple things here and there for their favorite characters, if they buy anything at all (if I were playing it, I'd be fine with default skins and things and wouldn't spend a penny). Also, not sure why "a game having microtransactions" made it onto a list of weird gaming stories.
Exactly, why is one game singled out when there are so many games like Fortnite and Valorant that have skins and cosmetics that can amount to thousands of dollars and no one complains. Valorant even lets you buy agents who all have different abilities that affect gameplay which you would otherwise spend weeks to unlock.
I think what is missing is Joltzdude139 finally concluding his 100+ hours of farming for a legit item drop on Borderlands 2 just to throw it away minutes after getting it.
Unpopular opinion: if you can unlock all the playable characters in a game for free there is nothing wrong with monetizing skins and things of that nature.
I know right? The game is free so they have to make money somehow. Also, no one is going to pay all 255 bucks (unless they really want to)! In a fighting game you play a few characters at most and then maybe for 1 of them you buy some skins. It's a big overreaction. And I get it, we've all been primed to hate this stuff because it's so often exploitative but this is just not that.

The Avengers game has lost Square Enix $200 million. The Last Of Us has made Naughty Dog a $1 billion profit. Loot boxes are dumb. Trying to make a great game is not dumb.

Honestly about the multiversus controversy, calculate how much all LoL skins cost.... no issue with that as long as it's cosmetic only (and no advantage as it happens in some shooters by the skins bringing camouflage)
Was just about to comment about that. I've played League on and off for years, and of course that means over time I have spent a good chunk of change to it because I enjoy it. This Multiverse game does not look as predatory as other games in the genre. Hell in Smash there are dlc characters that you have to BUY in order to play. You cannot earn them in game. Idk if the newest character in Multiverse follows the 'pay to get early or play to earn' mentality but overall it seems okay. My only issue is that it is a game that you have to first buy and then give them money for cosmetics with no way to earn them in game.
I don't care about Anthem one way or another, but screw it, for a penny I would play it. If even half of the first cut scene is OK it will be worth it.

It's literally just cosmetics that can't be earned on MultiVersus, and the game is actually really good. Why are you guys shitting on it so much? It's also FREE TO PLAY.
Multiverse is not 250$ or whatever. You can lay 70$ to unlock every characters. Nobody cares about cosmetics as long as it doesn't give you an advantage ingame. Misleading or sensationalist topic
Number 1 would be somewhat hilarious if there were achievements to go along with it. Like you get a bonus if you work a full year at 1hp or something...
Multiversus is a free to play game, you can buy all characters with gold, unlocked by playing as you said in the video, but the skins you have to buy them with real money, how is that a problem? I mean how else do you expect devs to make money for a free to play game. Since when is it a bad thing to sell cosmetic items in video games? Skins are OPTIONAL items, you don't need them to play the game, and if you really like a character you buy a skin or else you don't, I really don't understand your take on this, you are comparing a cosmetic item with an EXP BOOST, wtf?
Normally pennied out items aren't supposed allowed to be sold. They are supposed to be destroyed. (That is also a reason I started collecting even the bad games because this is how they become rare.) I guess they are disparate to sell them in that location.
Multi versus is free to play, if they “can’t” charge money for skins, how are they supposed to make money? The game is a free to play fighter that is breaking records. The characters are all earnable through game play. Just don’t buy the skins🙀
yeah i was thinking about League of Legends while listening to this. How the fuck are those companies supposed to make money if they don't charge for anything ??!? After all those skins are just cosmetics and you don't need it to play
forced account activation is enough third party revenue for them. I'll stick with Brawlhalla- no forced account, fun and fluid combat and I go from loading the game to being in a match in 2 mins.
I've played the game for the past 3 days after I get done with work and I'm not even close to affording a character I actually want. It seems to be a good free to play game only if you are willing to sink an exorbitant amount of time into it to unlock things yourself.
I do have to say I believe the 2 stories in this video regarding monetization were done in intentionally bad faith and demonstrated a clear bias, particularly the Multiversus argument. For the Unity CEO, he was speaking specifically about game designers looking to make free to play mobile games. With that context, his statements do make more sense, and he has even clarified what he meant with subsequent comments. Regarding Multiversus, everything you need to play the game, including all characters can be gotten without spending a cent. The game is free, and all the characters are essentially free. I don't see why them charging for cosmetics is an issue at all. Are they not allowed to make money? Are they supposed to give the game away out of the goodness of their hearts? You can use all characters locally, can try characters before unlocking/buying them, and can buy the cosmetics you think are cool. This is a pretty fair free to play model imo. And saying you need $255 to unlock everything is also a gross misrepresentation of the situation as most ppl will never buy every single cosmetic in the game. That's like saying Best Buy is too expensive because if you bought 1 of everything in the store it would come up to a million dollars.

I recently got it earlier this year when it was on sale and I've never heard about the whole failure it was I guess and I love the game It looks like they did alright

For the tiny tina story I was wondering if that is as rare as the article said because I couldn't find any other info about that item than from the story and the wiki page for the game shows an item similar to that
Definitely a ploy by the developers to get people to buy the game.
there's so many hacked items in that game it doesn't really matter, you can make whatever you want.

This game is still in Beta... I give it about half a year before they create "Premium Characters" or "Premium Maps / Perks" ;)
Never heard of fortnite then lol $10-$20 a skin and people have dozens of purchased skins. It’s crazy how many people buy almost every skin

Isn't MultiVersus free-to-play? I mean they got to make money somehow.
Then sell it with all skins unlocked.
Nope... hoping for more than a few idiots to pay more than a Triple A game would be worth.
Its basically a gotcha game in the form of a barebones fighting game
I would rather pay full price for the whole game than have to pay $5 every week for a new cosmetic item that they somehow fantasized is worth that much. F2P live service games are killing the industry. If you want to make money off a game, simply make it cost money... it is that simple. Developers have been doing it since video games were created.
I don't get why MultiVersus is a story. You said it yourself: you can unlock all the characters by playing. And cosmetic stuff being extra paid? Gamers for years have been saying that "if there have to by monetization, let it only be cosmetics"

That Anthem story is wild. I'm still waiting for the day when the story is that game suddenly blew up and a whole bunch of people started playing. Seems like a very reddit possible thing.
Kinda hard since they closed the servers. Possible to blow up single player, but it's so bad and uninteresting that I highly doubt it

I'm so conflicted because I wholeheartedly love Gameranx and their content, and yet I cannot stand their editing hahahaha.
Yeah I don't get it either, he's acting like it's just a cash grab with no passion put into it or anything.

Unpopular opinion: if you can unlock all the playable characters in a game for free there is nothing wrong with monetizing skins and things of that nature.
not unpopular. perfectly reasonable opinion
I feel the same way, I enjoy Pokemon unite every once and a while and they give away characters skins etc in random events just for playing
They'll patch that in after we all stop caring.

And don't forget Chromas AKA _Skins for your Skins_

Multiversus super fun and you don’t even gotta spend money. In game purchases are only cosmetic. Games a blast
It's literally just cosmetics that can't be earned on MultiVersus, and the game is actually really good. Why are you guys shitting on it so much? It's also FREE TO PLAY.
This is my favorite series on the channel, keep up the great work Birdman. CHAAAAAWWWAAAAAAWWWW
Just don’t buy the skins🙀
ye that was a really stupid point
Well they need ten stories I guess lol.
yeah i was thinking about League of Legends while listening to this.
Man Falcon had an extra expresso shot today with his coffee.
These are some of my fav videos you guys make. Thanks
