I absolutely love this episode. It's so rare that you get to see that once in a while, Michael shows WHY he rose to his position, because he really is a fantastic salesman. He's just a terrible manager.
We got that from this episode, we loved it!
The ol Peter principle: "people in a hierarchy tend to rise to 'a level of respective incompetence': employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another."
Somehow is NOT a terrible manager. Because their branch allways surpases other branches in sales🤭
In my opinion, the reason Micheal is a pretty good salesmen is basically that he wants to be friends with everybody and he wants everybody to like him. So he just spent the whole dinner connecting with the client personally which turned out to be an effective negotiation strategy.
Exactly. I am a terrible salesperson, but I have a friend that works with me that is just like that and the guy SELLS!
and he way overdoes it, which works for about the length of an extra long sales pitch. And he is appropriately concerned, anxious, perceptive and overfriendly - appropriate for a too friendly salesman and no other time or place in society, but it keeps getting results in that arena, and he got promoted so he stopped growing or questioning it.
A proctologist is a surgical specialist with a focus on diagnosing and treating disorders of the colon, rectum and anus.
So a proctologist drives a brown probe.
A probe is the name of a Ford model of car in the US.
Reminds me of another joke I heard…
My wife went to the Ford dealership to look for a Taurus. But the salesman just wanted to show her his Probe.
Yeah Michael is really good at reading people and actually was the top salesman at one time I believe. Think that’s how he got promoted to boss. But anyway, it’s awesome to see him work his magic and the whole time you think it’s just nonsense 😂
Also, the client was Tim meadows. I think he’s been on snl but I could be wrong.
And a proctologist is basically a butt doctor 🤭 colon issues etc. now have a nice day! 🤣
Yes he was on SNL for awhile, very funny, loved the seasons he was on, peak SNL days
Yeah Tim Meadows is an SNL veteran and was one of their best. Honestly, it's surprising that he had to settle for being a comedic character actor while a lot of his peers became A-list and B-list stars. His era of SNL especially was pumping out comedic stars left and right.
@@unc54 yeah, he’s so funny. I love too how he’s just sitting there in suspended animation when we first see him in this ep 🤣
Love the look between Michael and Jim at the end. :)
Absolutely, they both took an "L" with potential love interests. So glad other peeps see the beauty in that last scene!
This episode came out nearly 20 years ago and everyone still understand that scene despite no dialogue lol.
one of the best moments of the entire series really
The client was played by Tim Meadows.. I always remember him from his years on SNL. Super funny guy. 🎉
Well, I’m apparently one of the few who only watched this back in the day once (well, likely twice with Summer reruns),
so, BOOYAH - this show was FUNNY!
Thanks, DN! 👍
I’ve always assumed it was a mix of planned and a happy coincidence with Michael landing the client.
I think he’s shown throughout the series to have really strong sales skills, and this is one of those moments where they show that. I think he intuitively knew that if they pushed too hard too quickly that it would spook him off.
I don’t think he knew exactly how he would get there in the end, but he kind of knew that talking about it that early was bad
michael definitely "plotted" it to some degree, remember when he started to make those funny noises to shut jan up when she started to talk business? he definitely knew what he was doing and was strategically befriending the client and creating a relationship before making the sales pitch
Michael was a top salesman.
Every now-and-then, Michael show's actual competence. I won't say more than that!
(He can also be the luckiest assh*le ever!)
The contagious laughter is what makes these reactions go by faster, keep up the good work 😅🤙🇺🇲
Loving the reactions, guys, especially of The Office! Hey, you should change up your thumbnails. It’ll make it easier to spot new episodes on the feed. 👍🏻
Watching the start of the Jan/Michael relationship in this episode is like watching someone casually throw a match into a dumpster and accidentally nudge it to the top of a hill.
Damn that’s effin’ funny.
And in real life also great salesman don’t always translate into good managers. Shout out to my manager😅
I hit the like button before I start playing the clip. I am supremely confident that it’ll be like worthy!
Such a fantastic episode. So very very quotable and hilarious
“This is what we’re gon do”
“Follow it blindly”
“I almost had awesome blossom coming out of my nose”
“I want mah baby back baby back baby back”
“Dwigt”
Etc
This is one of a few episodes where Michael shows even though he’s not the smartest guy ever he really isn’t stupid either when it comes to certain ways of getting shit done
This episode isn’t one of my favorites, but it has a number of laugh out loud moments, and it’s still very engaging. That is a testament to how awesome the show is overall.
Michael Scott was a good salesman before becoming manager. I think he has such a casual goofy personality that it disarms the person who he is going to sell to. BUT I think this is simply a coincidence and his personality just works well, its not a plan.
Michael is an awesome businessman . He knows sales
wake up every saturday morning with my blunt waiting to laugh with you guys lol , great duo.
Michael rose to manager because he was actually a good salesman. He knew what he was doing here to land the sale.
DN Reacts, great content keep it up bro
This is a great episode 😂❤
You two make me happy 😂
❤️❤️
Undercover Brother & walk hard the Dewey cox story
SNL or The Ladies Man (which he starred)
One of my favorite episodes.
I’m back at it like a crack addict
Proktos is Greek for ANUS. A proctologist is a doctor who specializes in the anus, rectum, and colon.
