Just think about it, polluted water from all of the rivers ends up in the bay. There isn't enough money in the world to get me back down there again. No water in the Houston area is safe. I drink bottled water now. Hill country water is about the only thing I'll touch in Texas. This is basically a promotion for tourism in Galveston. I'm not buying what you're selling.
A zebra mussel cut through my diving shoe a few years ago when I was fishing in the gulf. I am extremely lucky I had antibiotics and deep wound cleaning equipment with me when it happened, the cut still got very infected and I had to clean it thoroughly for about two weeks afterward 😬
My ex husband was a deck hand for a tuna charter, they were miles of shore, he had been hit with a gafftop fin in his ankle during a bay charter the week prior. The boat listed and he fell in during the tuna trip and a day later he was in the hospital with MRSA and almost lost his foot. After Harvey and all the bodies and debris that washed into the bay I decided to enjoy the views and atmosphere of Galveston and Bolivar but not the water. 😕
This is correct. The Mississippi River sediment basically all goes there from ocean currents. There is nothing anyone can do about it. It’s clear blue in the summer because high water is over on the Mississippi.

Different types of rivers and sediment. The northern Texas coast has rivers with a lot of silt dumping into the bays and coast. The water is tested daily for pollution levels and it's very clean. Cleaner than Southern California.

Around 20 years ago there used to be posted signs along the Texas City waterfront recreational areas warning people of dioxin levels being unsafe in the water. They suggested limiting consumption of fish from the water and for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant to abstain from the fish completely. Yeah, I used to go swimming on the Galveston beaches when I was a kid and had a wonder time. Ignorance is bliss.

Galveston beach and Crystal beach is TERRIBLE water quality. Come down to Port Aransas or Corpus Christi or even further south to Port Isabel, water down their is nice and on low wind days, crystal clear
