Unite or Fight in Online Multiplayer
Experience the expansive, single player campaign alone, or invite a second player to join your adventure in uninterrupted, online co-op. But be warned - heroes from other realms can, and will invade.
Wield a Device of Ungodly Power
Your lantern possesses the ungodly power to cross between worlds. Use this dark art to reach forgotten places, unearth fabled treasures, and even manipulate the very soul of your foe.
Rise from Death
Fall in the world of the living, and rise again… in the world of the dead. You now have one final chance to return to your living state, as all manner of hellish creature descends upon you.

Quick update. The devs have patched the collection trophies to no longer include the covenant grinded items (thank god). Should make platinum hunting not nearly as arduous.
0:20 did you just turn the clock back 10 years? What spec do I need for that?
Thank GOD
Love your steam man! Excited for this game, the extra layers I have seen in your videos give some new flavor and depth to the Soulslike genre, and that is a good thing!
Wish Fromsoft implemented a patch like that for DS3 covenant items
@@sloth9210 he’s going to block your ass for being a moron.
FPS dips in a swamp area? Upholding the tradition of a true souls game I see.
That's pretty much a staple in souls games and other souls likes lol
😂 for real It adds to the horror
Adds to the hostility of the environment, lol.
There must be a lore reason for that lol
Final boss: FPS drop.
Back in 2013! Yea baby! What a time to be alive!
What’d I’d give to go back to 2013…

Cowboy off dat good grass early dis morn 💪🏾🤣
I was just going to comment on this lol
I made the same comment!! Made me laugh.
Eat Enemy Souls? Umbral Realm
Old school people remember Legacy of kain: Soul Raver the game was ahead of its time and since there is no intetion of a rework I am happy to see those core concepts making a comeback
also an excellent and detailed review by Cowboy
Played blood omen when it came out would love to see a remake of legacy of Kain
brooo we need legacy of kain for ps5 !!!!!!!!!!
Definitely need a updated legacy of kain soul reaver. By far my favorite game of all time. It got me into gaming!
There are job openings at Crystal Dynamics hinting at an upcoming LoK title. It's currently unknown whether it's a remake of the old games or something new in the franchise. The survey they conducted some time ago was met with a great reception. We'll see a new title sometime in the future.
Pretty sure I played that game but I have no memories of it
I’m stoked it’s 2013 again. *Waits for hair to grow back*
😂
You can only imagine-hope it grows back. But at least your solar powered now😅
And once again, cowboy gives us a comprehensive, objective introduction to an upcoming game that I was apprehensive about but ultimately excited. Thanks again for giving us the great, good, bad and ugly as one of the most reliable opinions out there
Lol I don’t know about objective
"objective" lmao
I'm so excited for this. Thanks for all the coverage this past weekend. Helped me get through some shitty dental pain. :)
The dual-world thing reminds me of how Dishonored 2 had the one level that existed in both past and present. I really wanted more of that mechanic so this looks cool!
Everyone talks about the Clockwork Mansion, but the mission with the Timepiece is such a sleeper hit. Glad to see some appreciation for that level in Dishonored 2.
And Titanfall 2!
Soul Reaver did this idea first! Its a very cool PS1 game about a soul-eater vampire and when you die in game, you go to the spiritual realm just like Lords of the fallen (obviously, LOTF its technically more impressive)
@@Deffinnitionwas gonna say haha
The studio has so much potential. They just need to focus on player feedback and then most importantly do their own thing.
they've done their own thing in this, wym?
@@Grandmaster-Kush 🙄
Once you start letting people dictate your game, you no longer do your own thing.

Thanks for a great review. This is my only pre-order this year and I’m looking forward to the exploration. Admittedly I’m not a great gamer but I get sucked into the mystery, exploration, items, loot, farming and upgrading in games like this. Your guides are the reason I’ve been able to enjoy these types of games. I look forward to your help once again so I can get the most out of my purchase.
Couldnt have said it better good luck fellow adventurer
This is a fantastic review Cowboy, thanks for this. I had my reservations about this from some other reviews, but you cleared up a lot and it sounds great. I normally don't play a lot of online or do invasions so the problems with that luckily won't affect me much.
Can't believe I've beaten all souls games before finding your channel! I stumbled upon it when I replayed DeS remake as pure faith. Your pvp faith video sold me. Loving your content bud!
Excellent review, very thorough. Thanks for all the work Cowboy, I'm definitely looking forward to playing tomorrow!
Super professional review. What I look for when I’m looking for a new game to purchase. Thx CB
Fantastic review Cowboy... very detailed and balanced as always....you are my go to for these reviews and am excited to jump into the content. Carry on Cowboy.
Your the man Cowboy! Hoping for a walkthrough for this one. Youve helped me in damn near every souls/souls-like game and I feel the Umbral world will be tricky. Thanks always for the help on these games and so stoked to play, tomorrow at 10am : (
just felt I had to comment lol, Cowboy is my go to guy also on the souls game, without him my experience through a game would of been very Fustrating, Love this streamer for who he is ! You got ur walkthrough and he delivered so happy gaming 🥳 Oh iv not yet bought this game been reluctant to purchase due to the problems iv read about yet the devs seam to be sorting a lot of them out 👏
Would love to see more reviews man u have such a good vibe and enjoy your input 😊
Great comprehensive review; much appreciated. Allll aboard, the hype train! Can't wait to jump into this!
What do you think of the game 7 months on? still worth playing?
Sounds like some good adjustments to the economy are needed, and should be easy to implement. That's always a hard part about game design. It's hard to know the level of grind until a lot of people start experiencing it.
since many years, i follow you from Italy and you're my favourite gaming youtuber ever. Your relaxing voice and your many walktrough accompanied me in every soulslike so far. Big hug from Bologna, keep going.
Thanks for being a consistent legend bro, definitely gonna cop LotF and use the walkthrough. I love these types of games, I just get so overwhelmed on all the open world paths and don’t want to miss anything 😭
Thanks for the review bud and the way you explained everything.
After watching, you play it and listening to your review definitely buying it! Thanks again Cowboy! You’re the man!
This game looks amazing. Thanks Cowboy for always putting out these coherent and concise reviews and guides
Digging the pentient one looking head piece! I’m excited to check this out!
Thanks for the great concise review cowboy. Will be playing this tonight. See ya on the field my fellow crusaders!
Good review. I like what he said about the game's guidance system. When you have to go on to the internet to find out what you need to do or where to go next because you're just running around in circles getting aggravated, that's when the game needs to give you some more help. Encourage exploration but don't waste our time. That should be a game's mission regarding player guidance.
exactly! big difference between giving guidence, and holding a players hand.
Absolutely. And knowing where to go would give all those shortcuts a bigger purpose.
they definitely took some inspiration from Blasphemous as well lol that opening armor set in the video looks almost identical. Can't wait to check this out!
Fantastic review. Exactly what I wanted to know. Like everything I see except the confusion on story progression/where to go next.
Thanx cowboy ❤ When ps4 dropped, I grabbed this game day 1, and because of your walk throughs, I made it to the credits (the satisfactionafter getting my ass handed to me. Was awesome) ! I then went on to play Bloodborne and all the FromSofts and it has become my FAVORITE genre hands down. I believe your insight and knowledge was a big reason why I stuck it out and fell in love with soulslikes. Fast forward almost 10 yrs later, and here we are ❤U are truly a gentleman and a scholar in the genre 👏 We luv ya buddy! Been here since 2013. And I won't stop until you hang up the headphones 😊 Awesome video as per usual 👏 👌 Can't wait to see what boss video for tips I'll need in my first blind walk through 😂 cheers
damn, this combat looks genuinely next level with the amount of fluidity in joining the different stances 6:42 was really hoping for this, so excited to try it
Loving it so far. I agree that it's relatively situational though, I don't use it the same amount as I did the high damage "transformation" attacks in Bloodborne which are basically the same thing. Combat in general feels great, there's just a weird amount of distance you and enemies can cross absurdly quickly if locked on and doing a light attack but it easy to get used to. Everything else feels SO MUCH BETTER than combat in Lies of P, yet people claim that was a masterpiece lmao
Lmao it looks AA quality to me
@@Funko777 I haven't seen anyone claim Lies of P is a masterpiece, just that it comes the closest to feeling like a From Software game. Dark Souls 1 is a masterpiece, and Sekiro is a masterpiece. Bloodborne comes pretty close to being a masterpiece. Lies of P is just a very solidly constructed facsimile of various bit of From's design language, with its own interesting twist on the combat, and honestly a better story than anything From has done but Sekiro or AC6.
I disagree that Lies of P's combat was worse than this. The main thing keeping me from trying LotF is that the combat looks so weightless and floaty. Movements are so fast, the sound design is barely there on hits, there just isn't any heft or physicality to any of it. That's something that Lies of P absolutely nailed. It just screams AA.
@@itsaUSBlineI think you need to check out some updated gameplay. I’m using axes and they really feel like they have weight and good sound when they hit. All of your complaints of the combat doesn’t seem like an issue anymore. I just started playing yesterday and read that they recently updated and changed that stuff
@@Eggcornbean Good to know. I was waiting for updates to try it.
Have to say this is probably the most frustrating and infuriating game I’ve played in a long time.
Adds everywhere, bloody umbral traversing mechanic, save points are terrible and the loss of souls after traversing my way through all the hordes to get them back!
Saw FC on the livestream w/ LotF dev, that's a good sign, getting FC feedback is a great thing and I hope they listen.
It kind of reminds me of a blend of GOW and Elden Ring combat. I haven't played a whole lot of games so not much to compare, but I've beat GOW Ragnorak all bosses on GMGOW NG+ so I do know the combat pretty well. And the addition of a long range weapon that requires you to stop and aim, the quick switching between weapons systems mid combo, needing to take out enemies that are buffing the main enemies, the stagger meter being visible and going up to get a big hit or combo, the choice of dodge, block or parry with parry draining the stagger bar (which is obviously Sekiro too), getting a lot of your health taken off but being able to earn it back (Bifrost), and also idk the look of it just reminds me of it. But of course it is mostly Souls combat with limited endurance, it just looks like a really awesome mix of those elements. All that to say, I'm definitely going to give this a try.
Did you say "here we are in 2013"?
Epic assessment as always, currently using your walkthrough for my platinum ,always my go to guy for soulsborne stuff, legend 🤘
This gotta be the best review I've seen on this game. I like how you showcase things as you talk about them.
The recursive level design thing is something Lies of P did very well actually. It's just that the order in which you had to go through each area was linear.
It shows how amazing from software is with their souls games. But, the effort still put forth by a smaller developer is worth rooting for. Kinks and all. Hope to really have fun.
from software are not amazing, all of their games are full of issues on release and get heavily nerfed, buffed etc while glitches remain.
@@-opustry and use your brain for atleast a minute and imagine all the shit they have to do for a release as theirs. It's literally impossible (period) to have a perfect launch, especially when you understand that 10s of millions of people will be playing it. Of course there will be bugs and someones gonna find them.
This is unfortunately a wait for sale for me, I will get back to it after a few patches though.
But you certainly have gotten a lot better at reviews!
This was a good one.
Solid review, have a thumbs up. Thanks for the video sir
Honestly with this new umbral world mechanic has me the most excited to play, it's such a unique mechanic so much stuff they can do with it.
I’m not too far but that’s one of the coolest things in the game. Sooooo sick finding secrets with that lamp. If you stare too long the enemies will stare back and pull your ass into the umbral world. Shit is terrifying and amazing
They should add a 'clank' sound when you go down a ladder with that helm
Hell yeah, I was waiting for this video!!
The axe throw at the end and the dude falling into the boxes was awesome. 😊
I actually remember playing the original Lords of the Fallen and while it was clearly low budget and they rushed the ending, I still enjoyed it. So glad this one seems to be making the efforts where it counts. No question though Lies of P takes the Soulslike crown.
it still look low budget
No it doesn't
Dunno..You play this one yet..It's got its teeth into me. Lies of P did that too. But this feels more FromSoft that addictive loop mechanic . Can't explain it
@AWY-LO which this or lies of P? Have both and the Unreal engine takes a piss on Lies of P 😅 This game looks stunning on the oled
What are you talking about? Lol@@AWY-LO
29:05 its REALLY noticable after Lies of P not long ago. All sounds are much worse, i can barely feel impact of strike from sound. Like in Lies of P any weapon was cool to use because of great sound design, it felt amazing to feel the weapon. I tried Thymesia couple of days ago and it has much better sound design for example.
That was my gripe making me not want to buy this either after playing lies of p.
The two world transition remembers me a lot of Legacy Of Kain PS1... when we can and need to transition in order to accomplish the games goals. Best Regards from Brazil. Big fã of you word men.
I’m still working my way through the first , but this gives me something to look forward to, great vid buddy
Looks like they put A TON of thought into this sequel. Also having FromSoft take a year off and not put out a "soulslike" game again allows this game to stand in it's own spotlight.
A year off? Bro they go like 5 years between games
@@BlueBirdsProductions Around 2 years but yea

I trust Cowboy's opinion and I have been wanting to travel through another game with him as I really enjoyed playing through the Dark Souls games with his walkthroughs. I will probably pick this up a while after release so they can iron out some of the issues based on player feedback but otherwise this one looks promising if a bit flawed
Thank you so much for this review it helped me a lot to understand the games issues better. Im still coping today. ❤
Thank you cowboy for this. I really appreciate these
I’m so fine with each person’s world has its own progression. I know it’s the norm, but it’s way better to control where you’re at in the game instead of just rushing it with a friend one time.
Best review I've seen/read. Seems if they patch some of the little annoyances out, in a few months this is gonna be a phenomenal soulslike.
That armor looks so sick bro, I'm so hype for this game! You're awesome CB
cant wait for your play along series
Nice review very fair.
I am excited to check it out tomorrow. I am going with the pre order class as well. Feels like the class for me. That sword you got in this video seems like something I want as well!
The limited upgrade materials makes me think they want you to play through multiple times with different classes instead of new game runs. I actually like that. The new game mechanic of limited way points sounds kind of dookie honestly.
Thanks FcB as always.
The Umbral mechanics of this game make me wonder about the possibilities if a Legacy of Kain reboot ever came to be.
I know, right? The two worlds thing immediately reminded me of the Kain series. GIVE US LOK REBOOT!
I was hesitant to get it due to the performance issues even with high-end PC's but I'm such a sucker for dark fantasy games and this looks absolutely amazing.
i watched your walthrough of the first game back in the day and now im back again
The diversity in move-set and parrying is what’s compelling me to buy this, thanks for showing that especially
6:36 it’s so diverse Cowboy confused himself 😂
Glad to hear that weapon stats mostly rely just on one star youre scaling. Thers been so many weapons across the Souls games ive wanted to use for a character build but never could because I wasnt pumping into the correct secondary stat.
@@AloneAgainstAll885im kinda surprised comments like this are pretty common, because there is nothing hard to understand about it at all, it is really intuitive system. Better the letter - better damage increase from stat. Basically scaling is how much damage you get from particular stat, particular range of values is E, after than D and etc, up to A and S.
@@AloneAgainstAll885Yes. A weapon has a base damage, and then scaled damage that is added to that figure. The better the letter, the better the multiplier is applied to your stat it scales off of.
What it scales off of may be changed differently per game, but the basic version of the weapon will tend to scale off of strength or dexterity or both, which is called “quality” in souls (and mage weapons may scale off of their particular stats)
Grest review liking the armour and weapon your rocking cb 👍
That briar penitent fit is awesome
2013 is such a good year so far
Cowboy is cosplaying the Penitent in this game. 🔥
the parry systems for all shields and weapons looks reaalllllll nice
Interesting. Love this. Definitely checking it out
This is like if souls was built around dantes inferno and legacy of cane
Don't forget Blasphemous as well
Hey Cowboy! During your initial stream of this game you seemed to be under the impression that 2 handed did the same damage as single handed but it just took away more poise from an enemy. Now that you've had more time with the game do you find that is still the case?
Its slightly stronger but only about 10%
Charged 2H heavies tho hit very hard
Do 2 handed do more stagger damage?
Had a cup of coffee and really enjoyed this review. Keep up the good work much appreciated.
My physical copy was delayed coming in, so its gunna sweeeet to jump in with half a dozen walkthrough vids already up!
Hell yes I love videos man and I trust what you say about games you've played
it’s crazy how many people are hating this game and it hasn’t even come out yet.

I think people are comparing this to LOP and that game seems to be a darling amongst gamers
@@Juju-cm7ge with respect, i get that. i guess my point is LoP has been out for like a month now, and had time for people to digest and play. LoTF drops tonight (EDT time zone) and players who haven’t gotten a early release copy are making comparisons, i believe to be unfairly. you feel

Just beat the first boss and the frame rate on Series X can be pretty shaky in performance mode. Hopefully it's improved with patches because I'm liking the game otherwise.
This is what I was waiting for. I wasn't going to pull the trigger on this until I got Cowboy and Rurikhan's review. Honest feedback from content creators I trust. I'm hoping this game fills the void while I wait for the Elden Ring DLC.
Really looking forward to this. I am still enjoying Lies of P but there is always room for another Souls Like in my stable of games. Appreciate the info and review @FightinCowboy. Def enjoy you breaking out the review as a separate vid instead of being at the end of the last episodes on some of the games. Good job man.
Yo we in 2013 now
It just sounds like they should of held the release for a few months, then maybe released it early next year. But if all of the things are truly small, it sounds like the devs are going to be good about patching everything. Either way, I’m going to have a blast during the walkthrough. Thanks for what you do CB!
I know even throughout recording the let's play they were patching stuff as I called it out, like the encumbrance bug. I'm sure a lot of this stuff will get fixed up but with 6 more months in the oven it would have been an undeniable banger and it's unfortunate as first impressions are huge in this industry.
@@FightinCowboyworth the extra 10$ for the dark crusader class or nah?
@@emptysoul2757I mean, you can just make the class yourself. Everything that class starts with is available in the game.
Now was the right the right time to release this so it gets the attention. If this dropped in the same window as Elden Ring DLC, early next year by the look of it, it would be in the shadow of the Erdtree, literally. Im looking forward to sitting down with this now while I've got the time.
@@ArmorOfZeus cool. Thanks 🙏🏻
Thanks for making these extended gameplay reviews. I've burned so many hours watching you play Bloodborne. :)
I was very skeptical at first getting this game but I finally bought it last night and it is really good so far for the few hours that I played. My favorite game of all time would have to be demon souls just because that was my childhood game! I love just about all the souls games!! As always thank you cowboy for another amazing video and you are always my go to on a lot of games!! Thank you for working hard and putting out great work!!
I don’t recall you talking about the boss fights. The reviewer with IGN said they were disappointingly easy.
I first attempted most bosses but I was also super unga bunga man so I figured that was more me being me than the game being easy.
@@FightinCowboyif you first-tried them all then it's easy. I doubt you could do that in any soulsborne on your first playthrough even if you grinded
I genuinely thought this game would be bad, now i plan on playing it. Great review.
Appreciate the breakdown!
I think other than the kill sound some weapon sounds don't really make sense, like peiata's sword is a light sword, why does it make the same sound and have the same hitstop as a regular sword? The parry sounds are also pretty weak, the movement and combat is very floaty. Similar to dark souls 2 and not in a good way. Like i want to dodge diagonally but it doesn't dodge correctly in the indented direction. overall very clunky feeling. I died more times to the clunk, enemy spam than any boss because i made a real mistake.
The bosses were disappointingly easy. There's too much enemy spam in certain areas, especially when you enter umbral its just unfun to deal with. The umbral looks cool but exploration just ends up being a chore. The game has good fidelity but i don't think its fromsoft quality presentation. Lies of P just all of that much better on all of these regards. its like 6/10 game at most. Lots of ideas but not all of them are executed well. Just lacks the polish of the other souls-like game that came out this year.
Most people that call this game better than lies of p. I think they're just trying to make a subjective opinions come off as objective. Like this game has much easier bosses you can do in like 1-3 tries at most, if you enjoy that more than actually complex bosses that require you to play well. yeah, you'll think its a better game. But even ignoring that i think this game fails in other aspects.
2013? what? which year are we in?
Wdym? It's 2013, PS4 is the next gen console
Great review, can't wait to get stuck in to it.
Just wanted to say thanks Cowboy you actually revived my love for gaming with the Elden Ring walkthrough and I've been a huge fan since, you got me through DS1 and I just finished my platinum on BB thanks to you. Can't wait for the walkthrough and play through this game with you and thanks for making me love gaming again!
I'm glad you are playing and enjoying those great games. But you should play them first instead of watching well playing or watching if you are watching well you play nothing is new you know. And if I misunderstood your comment then my bad
@@dominicp9296 yeah no worries! what I do is I setup a walkthrough video as I'm about to enter a new area or ill go back after I play through an area to make sure I don't miss anything. Going in blind to Elden Ring was such an awesome experience, I came here to just get a spoiler free review of it. Plus my schedule doesn't allow for me to sit and play a lot of the times so the walkthroughs are helpful on that end too.
Been refreshing like a madman here 😂
