    Thank you Dr. Alex. Thank you for your very simple and easy to understand information. I believe my lab has gotten his diarrhea resulting from the extreme heat that we've been having. Adding things to his water to encourage him to drink such as tuna water was a very helpful suggestion and this is something that I will definitely continue if we run into future hot weather. I felt he wasn't drinking the necessary amount of water but telling him to go and have a drink wasn't very effective. LOL he's a big boy and it seemed as if he was losing what he was consuming in drool alone bless his heart. Unfortunately most of that drool ended up on my lap. Best wishes Doctor.

      @@OurPetsHealth I'm so excited to take a look at them. We're just coming into another run of really high temperatures. The good news Luke's stool is firm and healthy and I've been having him drinking water like a marathon runner. I used to leave out a big Square bucket for him and I would change the water every day but I noticed it was hardly touched. It was obvious he wasn't drinking. So I took that away and put out a smaller Bowl two cups of water with a couple of tablespoons of unsalted chicken broth and stay with him while he drinks it and then refill the bowl every couple of hours. He always drinks it down right away. I've realized that for some reason he just does not go near his water when it's hot. Even if I encourage him he'll just walk right past it but with the chicken broth that's a whole new deal. He's a big boy and he drools like crazy so I'm assuming that losing all of that drool is losing the little bit of fluid that he has. Anyway you know how it is when people talk about their pets they can go on forever. You're our hero so once again many thanks.

    I mashed banana and cooked white rice together and added water and some of her food. She ate a tiny bit but mostly drank water. She is 8 months and the pound she was adopted from said she should eat grain free puppy food but I’m worried that’s why she has really too soft stool. She stopped eating any and all treats, even her favorite ones and I’m hoping that she will get better with the rice and banana mash 😢my poor Charli, she really is a food driven dog and this is so sad to see her not feeling good. 😩💔

    I gave my dog some chicken this morning as a treat after his breakfast and I think it may have been over the hill because he had diarrhea since about 15 minutes later and still has it tonight. Do you think he will need antibiotics to get rid of it if it was bad meat that caused it or will it just be expelled from his system in a day or so? He is on Imuquin probiotic powder in his food once a day. He's drinking plenty of water but seems to be pooping it out and not peeing.

    What if you give your dog charcoal for diarrhea?

    • @OurPetsHealth
      @OurPetsHealth  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! in a very brief nutshell, activated charcoal is really only of proven benefit after poisoning, and even then, only if the toxin is one of the ones that are actually absorbed by the charcoal, many are not and in some cases of poisoning the activated charcoal can actually cause a dangerous body salt imbalance. It also works best when given immediately after toxin ingestion and becomes less effective the longer the time gap is. So what about with a standard case of dog diarrhoea? It can cause consipation so may bung the dog up making the visual stool quality more firm but that is not the same as correcting the cause of the diarrhoea in the first place and as far as I'm aware it has not actually been shown to have any benefit when used to treat diarrhoea in dogs (short answer is I really wouldn't bother). Dose is also an interesting one as it needs to be given in far greater quantities than most people will likely be giving. And it stains anything it touches...lots here and lots missing...I've added activated charcoal to my video list for the near future
