I somehow disagree with this. It's always been my hobby to read english books since I was a kid but when my parents decided to migrate abroad, I had a tough time trying to communicate with the native Americans because both our accents are different. They couldn't understand my accent so they somehow misunderstood what I say and I had to repeat myself a few more times for them to fully underdstand me.

Hello, just wanna share my experience. I'm good at writing but when it comes to speaking, I'm not that good. And I think, the reason why we have difficulties on speaking is because we are afraid to make mistakes. Last July, I applied as a call center agent somewhere in Makati but I didn't pass the interview due to lack confidence, and the HR told me to read novels. From July and until now, I have read 10 english novels. And yesterday, I passed initial interview, mock call and final interview. And also before I applied again, I binge-watched all your recent videos about grammars and Sherlock Holmes series on Netflix, finished the Harry Potter complete series movies and 3 books of HP as well. Thank you ate Lyqa, you've been part of my improving skills.

I love the video. Thanks ma'am Lyqa. 😊
I just wanna share this. I'm an ESL teacher for several years.
    To improve our fluency:
Don't just read or recite, we have to speak. Construct an English sentence using our own words. It will help us to express ourselves better. Fluency includes a better expressing of someone's ideas or opinion.
Don't make a sentence from our mother tongue and translate it into English, make an English sentence directly.
Keep on practicing, talk to someone in English. If you don't have a speaking partner, just simply talk to yourself. Example, talk to yourself when you're doing some household chores like cooking. Try to explain the step by step procedure, in that way you'll be accustomed on expressing yourself in English.
Just like what ma'am Lyka said on the video, imitation is very important. Don't just imitate, learn to paraphrase what the speaker is saying, change it with the different subject. Example, when the speaker said "I'm 18 years old and I still live with my parents"
Simply say "She's 18 years old and she still lives with her parents". In that way, our grammar will improve

Just expose yourself to english resources like songs, movies, interesting articles for you just so it wouldn't be (boring) in case di ka mahilig sa books. Have subtitkes when watching films and take down notes of new phrases words and expressions na mae-encounter mo while watching and check dictionaries. Of course you have to speak it. Talk to yourself in english when you're alone. I know it's crazy but it works. Use every vocabulary and sentences you know to retain the usage of the language. And by the way, familiarize your tongue specially with the pronunciation or enunciation of consonant letters coz most of us usually dun may struggle because filipinos have strong vowel sounds. Yun lang 😎👍

The best way to learn is to keep speaking it. Watch English movies and read a lot of books.
It is hard to speak English when you're always thinking about the grammatical rules. If you want to speak English fluently, submerge in the language. Talk, read and speak in English 24/7. When we speak Tagalog, it comes naturally. When we were children, we didn't study the proper grammar of Tagalog. We knew how to speak it because we are surrounded by our parents, friends and communities who speak Tagalog constantly. We achieve fluency by speaking and listening 24/7.

I'm here in Sweden learning Swedish language at the same time studying English and Mathematics as my two major subjects instead of Physical Science, my major subject in the Philippines. I shifted my major subjects from Phy-Sci to English and Math because of their official language which is Swedish. Some reasons I would like to share with you; it is problematic when my European students are having difficulty in comprehension because of my Cebuano accent while speaking their Swedish language, that is, all of us have our unique intonation and accent because of our mother tongue. While listening English, it is important to acknowledge which articulation you are going to follow because American and British are different like the British diphthongs and triphthongs. Also, British English is more acceptable in European schools than American.

    • @M10234

Funny how I'm literally applying these tips at this very moment of watching the video, especially the third one "imitate" because every time she speaks an english word, as being mentioned to that respective tip, I'm pausing the vid as soon as I can and re-read the phrase or sentence. Anyway, keep up the great video tips as it is very helpful for those who really struggles speaking our Universal language which is English. Have a good day!!

The perfect video! Many thanks to the author of the channel for the recommendations! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.

If you are someone who really wants to improve their English communication skills, try to work as a customer service preferably sa isang international account. (American, Bristish, Australian). One of the best teacher talaga is experience because one of the best takeaway from that is you get to listen what are the pronunciation of diff words. You can also build your confidence because as a CSR, you have to convince through the intonation of your voice that you really know what you are doing and what you are saying.

Great tips. One thing I notice about Filipinos is that they try to feign an American twang (but why?). Partly I know that some fashion bloggers try to do this even though they are not americans nor educated here, but faking a twang adds to the stress of what may already be overwhelming. Every country's own accent has its charm when speaking English, and trust me, we understand you because most Filipinos speak English pretty well. Embrace the richness of your culture and your knowledge of English -- and just run with it! Thank you for this wonderful video. I am going to hit the subscribe button now!

Hindi naman po cguro masama na lumabas din tayo sa comfort zone naten and mag strive to learn and be better in sentence construction kase it also helps boost ng self-confidence lalo pa at na eexpress mo ng maayos ang nais mong sabihin kase alam mong marunong ka. Hindi naman sinasabing kailangan super magaling ka na. Pero para sa ibang well established companies that deals with high end clients, most of them would want someone with above average communication skills. Someone who knows how to communicate well verbally and sa written. Marami sa kabataan ngayon naka graduate lang, di marunong gumawa ng business letter.
Students now tend to disregard the importance of correct grammar and pagdating sa trabaho, nawawalan na ng self confidence. Let us not always take it negatively kung alam nating makakatulong sa sarili.
I used to work sa airline jan sa Dubai. May kasama ako magaling nga accent pero when she said " i'm sorry maam but we cannot be able to", dun na.. Nagk conflict na with the pax. Instead na mabilis natapos ang convo, tumagal pa dahil sa we cannot be able to.

I'm the total opposite LOL. I'm FilAm, raised in CA. My parents have been here since the 1960s and spoke Ilocano & Tagalog at home. Obvs when I came along they taught me both but bc we live in the States, English is my 1st language. I find that if my parents dont speak to me in either Ilocano or Tagalog, I forget certain words or how to phrase things. My dad was an ESL teacher (English as a Second Language) for several years and what he used to tell his students was to totally immerse in English via TV, radio, books, and practicing with native English speakers. So I do the opposite of that and ask my parents to speak to me only in Ilocano or Tagalog so I don't lose it. I'm sure I have a California accent when I speak Ilocano and Tagalog LOL
