It's not that you SHOULD, it's a matter of personal preference. Some women who serve want to wear makeup, some don't. They're all beautiful and are all doing something important regardless!

Girl, yes!! One of my pet peeves is when I dress up or wear a noticeable more amount of makeup, and people ask if I have a hot date or who I'm trying to impress. They don't mean it maliciously, but it's one of those backhanded compliments that drive me insane!
No offense to other branches... but female Marines are the only ones who have their hair perfect like this in uniform at any time. 👊🏻 and the sleeves on all Marines 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 it’s a beautiful thing to see.

The Marines are one of the most strict branches in the military. They want you to stay on point all the time. 🙌🏻
Dom D haha same. I feel like after my hair grew out to be in a bun I mastered the art of putting my hair up in like a minute so it didn’t matter if I woke up late.
I make a point to be squared away on my hair in the Army. I hate looking like a mess. But that’s a personal goal I set for myself to look professional everyday and to take pride in my appearance in uniform at all times.
Every branch also has varying uniform regulations and grooming standards. The Navy is not nearly as strict as the Marines.
The fact she has to say the male military ppl that it’s okay to wear makeup on everyday work....irritates me.
The Marine corps has one purpose and make up doesn't factor into that purpose.
The unit I was in treated Marines as Marines regardless of gender .
What is the point of make up anyway?
Underground Miner simply BECAUSE SHE WANTS TOO. Why do woman have to give a reason to do what they want. Why is it they have to gain permission? She’s not in a active war zone where she’s taking time out of patrolling to do makeup. When a man grooms himself their its no problem, but the moment a woman does there’s comment like “what’s the point of makeup anyway”. Because that’s what she wants to do and shouldn’t have to answer to a man about it. God imagine if a men had to answer questions like this...

I'm an army cadet and out on a camp you sleep with it it and because u do it so often and wear your hair in a bun all the time it becomes normal and ur head get use to it
Grace Carr I have been in 5 years and I’m still not used to it. The best part of my day is taking that bun out
I can’t sleep with a bun in either, you can prep your hair with the gel and have the pony tail in. That way you don’t have to sleep with the bun and just put it into a bun when you wake up. That worked for me with that issue.

I am in the Canadian Army (31 years in)..I have never had a "makeup" conversation with any one of my fellow male soldiers. We (female soldiers) wear it conservatively in day-to-day dress as well. I have always worn makeup in uniform... in garrison, in the field...wherever I am. I was Camp Sgt Major last year during Battle school and got up before my troops to get ready (hair/makeup 5am), blacken my boots. Just to look and feel professional. Always have a higher standard of dress and deportment. All the female soldiers who wanted to wear makeup wore it. Our dress regs on hair just changed in Canada...and we can wear pony tails. (I don't like it but its the new rules) with exception in dress uniforms or on parade. Must be in bun. I think you look great! Pride in your appearance is key. We are all under scrutiny from civilians around us. XO from Canada.
Feeling good about yourself (if that means having your hair done, makeup on, nails, eyelashes WHATEVER) does have an effect on how well you perform. Look good, feel good and vice versa. Confidence goes a long way in any profession and you do what you gotta do to feel it and exude it!

I never thought the military would be the "right fit" for me partly because of my love for makeup and the persistent skin issues I've had for most of my teenage/adult life so far (I thought you had to be bare-faced). But it is so cool and amazing that you've merged these two seemingly opposing paths and told the world that you can be both without one taking away from the other.
I'm sorry you have to explain yourself all the time but one day we'll get to a point where women in the military won't be questioned or thought of as "less than" for wearing makeup. You're clearly a pioneer on this front. And thank you for your service!

BB creams contain sunscreen which makes most people with sensitive and/or acne prone skin break out. Along with dimethicone, which is in almost every kind of cream or face lotion (makes me break out too). I use Cetaphil Hyaluronic acid face lotion WITHOUT spf. Made my skin looks sooo clear!
EVERY THING SHE SAID about the whole girls with makeup 😭😭 omg made me cry ❣️ but she has a point to all the males in the military !

FYI, Marines are held to a standard. The outward appearance is something that is just as important as the job that is being done. We aren't the best for no reason. You shouldn't have to explain that shit to anyone! Also, some of them are just mad they don't wear it so they look pretty too. So glad I found you! I remember my days so long ago - Thank you for doing this! Your uniform and hair are on point.

From a sailor to you, I could never get my hair to behave like that even with the most hair gel or hair spray. Also your sleeves are crisp 💪🏻 keep doing you it’s rough but we gotta do what we gotta do

Hi! I was a Marine for 4 years, got out as a Corporal. Was a Corporal for 2 and a half years.
1. When you’re away in boot camp or in the fleet? For both, you just take care of it the way you normally would. In boot camp, with more haste and with what you’re given. In the fleet, just like you would as a civilian.
2. During PT, it’s the same as if you were working out while on your period. Double up if you have to.
3. I never slept with my skivvie shirt on. I didn’t want to wake up and go to work in the same thing I slept in. In boot camp you sleep in your skivvies and I hated it. It’s all a matter of personal preference.
4. With the right amount of gel and hairspray, your hair should feel like a helmet and should not move at all. But you’ll have to wash your hair every day and you will experience hair loss where you make your part. Switch your part up every few days so you don’t end up with a bald spot.

like, i used to be in the army and we have a no make up policy, and i get it. as a female militairy technician, i want to blend in with the men as much as i kan, i even kinda want to be seen as one and one of them. in my opinion the difference between male and female should be as small as possible, because i not only want to be part of an all male team but i dont want to attract my coworkers in any way. So we can keep it stricktely proffessional. i have nothing agains woman in the army wearing make up, as long as its not to attract the men, but for their self. i wanted to gain respect for the work i put down, not the way i looked. but her makup is great for the army, and above all everyone should do what makes them happy!

I want to be in the marines or army. My oldest brother has a leadership role in the army. First time I got to talk to him in five years. I told him wanted to be in the millitary. He said in a very worried but stern tone, " you may have fun or think it's all fun and games at first, but your opinion will change later on. For me it's hard to be a leader because when I have to lead soldiers, my mistakes they will copy and when I make mistakes they die and yes some of them have. I need to be careful. Think about your desicion, and give it time because you need to know what you are getting yourself into. You will regret some of your choices.Go to school. You have so much opportunities that normal mids dont get. You go to an elite school and get educated on things so much beyond what I had when I was young. You have food and shelter. Things I never got growing up. You have everything. You're extremely smart so I dont get why you would give up so much opportunities for this. You have EVERYTHING. I grew up poor. Your dad got me to my feet and helped me because he also knew my situation. I used millitary to get me to school because millitary was my only chance and I happened to be good at it. You have greater opportunities than I do, and you're going to the millitary? You can be the CEO of one of the largest companies in America, yet you choose to not do it.Just think about it. I'll see you you later or never. Bye, love you." I said, " yes, you said to follow my dreams, I'll do it, love you and bye." So yeah. I felt my brother is trying to convince me not to go in. Too BAD MR.L IM GOING IN!

You are correct make up is not a big deal in the military as long as it is equal to your complexion. Hot red nail polish won't work, it needs to be camouflage to you. Thank you for your service! From a retired US Army Veteran.

Thought about the break-outs: ever since my teen years I use either Sea Breeze or rubbing alcohol on cotton pads on my face and neck area, wash my face real good in the shower or bath, then use a moisturizer [I use CeraVe PM]. While I don't wear makeup, I do not have any real problems with my face and this regimen has kept me clear for decades. Just a thought. Be safe, Marine!

I wanted to join the military, but didn’t want to lose the part of myself that loves feeling beautiful and feminine.
