Hi Carole, those shorts, you either love them or hate them, there’s no in between. Just put a yoga waistband on them, that’s what I did. That’s my answer for all waistbands lately. I love that little case, I’ll have to try that pattern, it looks like so much fun. I hope your granddaughter loves the dolly. That adder was huge, i don’t think I’ve ever seen one before. I’ve heard of puff adders, my grandmother told me about finding one in her garden one time. She said she started smelling cucumbers and there was none around. It scared me so bad I didn’t set foot in the garden for a week! I don’t know it was true or not, my family are great story tellers, so she might have embellished it a little. The pictures are beautiful, so peaceful. Take care, enjoy the weekend.😊

Sue!! I have spent the last couple of hours taking those shorts apart and rebuilding them to my normal style and I am now happy! So many people have said about Yoga waistbands and I have never done one.
That little zipper pouch is fun to make but lots of little elements to it. Nothing like the By Annie patterns that Adam does! The Adder was a really big one so for the only one I have ever seen I struck lucky and there was no danger as I saw him before my daughter's dog. The Grandsons loved my photos. How funny about your Puff Adder story, I wonder if it was true?
Hope you have a good weekend too and approve of the shorts next week 🧵😊

wow, so surprised about those shorts, so frustrating for sure. The Annie bag is so fun, thought about making some for gifts. Made her Messenger bag for my son in the University colors at his new position. That was quite the challenge, but it did come out beautifully. Was able to embroider his monogram and the school mascot, such fun. It has rained here every day for the past week and it is hot and humid. Looking forward to fall and cooler weather but it is a way off. Made the same shirt twice, different view and the neckline is so open and low, tried to adjust it on the second one but don’t know what happened, still too big and open. Debating now to forget it or make one more. Some times it is hard to quit. I really like the style. Oh well we will see what the next week brings. Your photos are beautiful, the boys and dog at the water, how fun! Glad you are healing. Till next time, have a good week!`

You hit the nail on the head about quitting. When I finished the shorts and filmed my FS I thought that's it, I have done all I can to them. Then I started to read my comments and thought....come on Carole... you can do better! I then took them apart and have rebuilt them and they are great now! Sometimes you just need to come away from a project and look with fresh eyes. Hope you can solve your blouse issue.

Your grand-daughter is one year old already! Time flies!! It seems like just yesterday you were making that dress for her for the wedding. She's no doubt talking and walking and running all over the place now. The shorts looked good to me but then you're the one who has to wear them. I had a little laugh to myself when you mentioned that you would wear them where people didn't know you. I have done the same thing with some clothing I've made!! LOLOLOL... As for that Adder...YUK!!! Bella would've tried to play with it, I know for sure! She loves to chase all the little lizards around our pool deck!! They're harmless little creatures and I do my best to save them and have her release them from her mouth grip but there have been a few that have lost their tails to her.
I envy you the cooler weather you are(were?) having. It is still miserably hot & humid over here. M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E. The other day I told William that I would love to become a "snowbird" and live in Florida during the Winter months but live up North somewhere (where Summers are not so miserable) during the other months of the year. He doesn't like the hot temps and high humidity either but he loves his Florida home so... It is what it is!
I think your holiday home would be fun to visit. What a lovely area! I would enjoy going any time during the year just to see that beautiful ocean view but your holiday park closes for the winter, doesn't it?

Sadly we can only stay in our holiday home for 9 months of the year then the power and water is cut off. We can still visit which we did this year but it was fairly chilly! The park is open all year as they have touring caravans on site. I would have loved to stay there for Christmas though.

Diann! I have saved the shorts and now I'm really happy with them. I literally took them apart as I knew after reading my comments I had to do something as I loved the feel of the fabric. I got rid of the waistband, put two massive darts in the back and made smaller back pockets. Then put a normal waistband on which then had to be only slightly elasticated and took in the legs. A lot of work but worth it 🤣. Don't give up on hours!
If I saw a snake in Tennessee there is no way I would hang around to take a photo of it believe me. It's little old England and he wouldn't have bothered me unless provoked 😁.

I, too, made the Tinley but made a skort and it was quite large especially in the waist. I thought perhaps it was because I used a 2” elastic since that is what I had and I didn’t want to make the channels. I have taken the waistband off and now just trying to find time to cut the waistband down. I made it for a special occasion and time is just flying by. I don’t know if I’ll have time to fix it.

Hi Barbara, funny that you say the waist was too big for you as well. I have now rebuilt them and they are much better. I got rid of the whole waistband and put two fat darts in the back to reduce the bulk. I then put a normal waistband on with just one piece of elastic. The back pockets are now smaller and I also took in the legs. They are SO much better now! Hope you manage to fix yours. Thanks for watching 🧵😊

So sorry your shorts didn't work out. I agree with Jen, a yoga waistband may fix the issue. Karina from Lifting Pins and Needles has an excellent video on how to put on a yoga waistband. I have the pattern and the fabric to make the Flippin Out bag. I need to put that on my August sewing list. The one you just made is adorable. My daughter and two of her friends (they are like my kids since they all live with me) are leaving on Sunday to go to Europe. They are so excited. They all took German in College so they will start in Germany. Then they will have some time in Liverpool (to stay with relatives), then Scotland and Ireland, again staying with relatives. Staying with relatives will help save money and they can take a lot of day trips. I'm looking forward to seeing all their cool pictures. I told them to bring warmer clothes since you all have missed summer this year. Thanks for sharing.

I've given up on summer sewing too! I was replacing all my old t-shirts, but I managed four and have now decided to think about autumn/winter sewing.
I find those flat front/elastic back trousers unflattering on me. I have one pair by another indie company, and I had to take them in and they are still not quite right. My waist is a size smaller than my hips so I have to allow for that and it just makes them too big round the waist. I never tuck tops in so it's not too visible. I have now bought some trousers with a zip fly so will give them a go sometime.
I'm not keen on sewing double gauze - I've just made a top in it, but I think it was too complicated a design for the fabric to behave. Will do something simpler if I buy any more double gauze.
I've never seen an Adder, but when we lived in Cyprus we saw a few of the most venomous snakes, the blunt-nosed viper, including one in our garden when we were cutting back some shrubs. Gave us the fright of our lives! The one thing I didn't like, though, were the tarantulas!! Hate spiders - even the small ones we get here in the UK!!

Hi there, yep time to get the Autumn sewing started although it is meant to be warm for a few days at least!
I have learned like you now not to go for gathered backs, not with my body shape anyway.
Simple is the way with double gauze, for me I never like the hem as it never looks polished, I did say I would never sew with it again but this fabric was so different.
How wonderful that you spent time in Cyprus, I am guessing it was with the army? I am happy seeing snakes over here but nowhere else 🤣

Hi Carole. It’s always disappointing when you have an image in your head as to how a garment is going to turn out, and then it doesn’t. It’s just part of sewing life. Love the flipping out pouch and didn’t know you were supposed to do a line of stitching to help it flip out. Like you when I made mine I didn’t bother with the lace in the middle (or the line of stitching either 😂). It still flips out without any problems though. Glad your Juki is mended. I also have a spare machine should my main one (Juki DX7) have a hiccup. Ohh you were brave regarding the adder photo. I’m not a fan of snakes and have only seen one adder. I was heading down to a beach with one of my greyhounds going down steps, fortunately the adder was on one side and my dog on the other or she would probably have tried to catch it 😬🫣. I did squeal out loud though. It just slithered off into the ferns. It’s an area which is notorious for adders living there. As ever thanks for the vlog. Take care.

People say there are so many adders about in our area but this is the first one I have ever seen. It stayed still though, I like you would have squealed if it slithered away! Beautiful pictures! I'm sorry to hear of your struggles with Tinley. I have never done pockets before. THat's the first step in Tinley. I was trying to go by instructions on page 10 where it says to cut interfacing the length of the pocket opening. Looking at the picture- this looks like the lining, not the pocket bag. I would really like to get started tonight. do you have any suggestions to help me?

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Cheryl. Thanks for watching and after last weeks disaster with the Tinleys I have redesigned them and they now fit brilliantly
Re the interfacing, all I did was put a stripe along the seam line to reinforce it (the angled bit). I have some 1.5 cm ready cut iron on stuff I use for shoulders in jersey tops etc. It's only to strengthen the angled line so don't worry too much. It goes onto the pocket lining, the pocket bag then gets sewn onto the lining later. Just take it steady step by step and you'll be fine don't worry 🧵😊
