2:08- Gene Wilder's father passed away the day before Gene shot this scene, which made the scene have more resonance for him. His father had warned him not to "put all his eggs in one basket" (meaning not to put all his energy into a career in acting.) When he saw the success that his son was about to have, he told him "I'm glad you put all your eggs into one basket."
+orbison Very interesting but sad story regarding the background of the filming of this scene with Gene's father's sad passing. Gene Wilder is a brilliant actor. I love this film and haven't seen it in over 30+ years.
Best book ever. I've read this a million and one times, and I still read it on occasion to my boys. When they fall asleep I keep reading it to myself :) This movie was a wonderful adaptation (who doesn't love Gene Wilder?) and I'm excited to take my boys to see the new movie. ***** does this bring back memories?
So many good memories are wrapped up in this clip; I think this was probably my introduction to Gene Wilder, but I'm not entirely sure. All I know is that the Fox is, was, and always will be my favorite character in this film... and much of that is due to Gene's gentle soul.
One of the most wonderful messages a book has ever had: the infinite childhood that lives inside of every man amd woman, the childhood we should never lose, if we could see the world with wonderment and magic as a child does, this world would be a much better place to live, Kids can teach you more that you would ever think!!! It's only with the heart that one can see clearly, what's essential is invisible to the eyes!! KEEP THE INNOCENCE!!!
The Fox has great lines but my God, Gene Wilder just breaks me in this performance. It's not the words, it's the feeling with which he says them. What a genius!
i just watched this movie today march 17, 2011..thanks to my cousin she insisted to watch this and i'm so thankful coz i was given a chance to watch this brillant movie..i felt sad when i googled the casts i think the child(the prince) is the only cast in this movie who's still exisiting..they all gave justice to their character..thanks!
"Do not Marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." (JOHN 5: 28,29) RIP
To think this as a children's story is a big mistake...it's a story of understanding adults from a child's perspective. The fox scene is the child/grown up switching roles and whereby the child understood that he has tamed his flower as uniquely his own, the same as he tamed the fox.
+trevor bell I think it's a story of understanding mankind from sky's perspective. Cause child talking about hard things like wars, money, and broken life for love.
This movie made such an impression on me when I was a very small child. So very pleased to have been reminded of it. Just bought a used copy. They are remaking the movie to be released in 2015 with an array of stars. Jeff Bridges will be the aviator www.imdb.com/title/tt1754656/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_3
"This Is So Beautiful" ........ "All Of My Life Antoine de Saint-Exupery's: Little Prince Was And Is So Important To Me" ........ "The Wisdom Of The Book Is Beyond Words" ........"Mon Petit Prince" ........ "I Love You So Much" ........
is it taming ... or is it acknowledging the Wild in us? is it "feeling responsible" ... or simply feeling the Oneness and connectivity. I feel deep in my Heart, in the Heart of the Single Love that is existence, that there is no such thing as sorrow, sad, grief or loss . that these are necessary illusions to experience, but that once allowed ... they pass into a coalescence of Love ... of Knowing that we are all what we have named "God". The Little Prince story is a bridge between awarenesses of the Story, and of the Nothing that holds the story in a shape. The Waves and the Water. We are Water. Divine, abundant, infinite water.
A GREAT movie...so sad , though! This kid was excellent portraying the little prince. Have you ever read the book? It's very faithfully adapted from it.
" os homens sempre esquecem disso, mas voce nao deve: O essencial e invisivel para os olhos... so se ve bem, com o coracao." and is true! we sometimes forget that, in truth what makes us happy are the little things. our eyes, sometimes deceive us...
Hahaha, we watched this in French class one year (after reading the book in its original French, of course) and everyone was dreadfully skeeved out by this scene. And yet I still love it...
I'm fond of this movie because I watched it when I was little after I read the book & it brings sweet childhood memories, but I still prefer the book! I think they always ruin it when they make a movie of a book, the movie can be great and all but a book it's meant to be a book, so you can let your imagination fly! I always imagine things different that how they appear in the movie, I used to get dissapoited as a child! But still I think they brought some of the magic of the book to the movie!
That is true. I really hope that they will do some justice to the book in the up and coming movie. I will agree that that the emotions in this movie did fit rather well of those in the book, although, I am not much of a fan for musicals so I wish they didn't have all the songs.
this is absolutely great,,i Love this book...may i ask??weN was this fiLm first showN??hope i fiNd a copy of this... ninenine,,thaNk you so much for upLoadiNg it..faNtastic
Yeah ... I know!!! I'm not crazy haha ... I believed that this film doesn't exist really because i saw when i was a child how 5 or 6 years old ... and this book is my favourite!!! i love my petit prince!!! ... i cried with him ... snif snif but pas grave... Actually, i love him !!! :)
does anybody know where to find this exact scene not all messed up with the words in the wrong place/out of sequence / thank you so much for letting me know. i have looked and see it in a ten minute clip only.
both comments sound a bit wrong. The intention of this dialogue, as I see it, is how important people or things become to us after we've been with them, regardless of gender or sex or what kind of animal or vegetable you are. After something "tames you", you become unique in the world. That's the point.

❤🌷⚘❤🌷⚘❤🌷⚘
Wrong planet, indeed - You and me both!
Gene Wilder... the fox.... So beautiful.
Isn't he, though?
Best book ever. I've read this a million and one times, and I still read it on occasion to my boys. I believe this scene in this movie, viewed when I was 8, is why I am the way I am. Why I think and behave the way I do.
It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important...
I loved this movie so much as a child... RIP Gene.
the best perfect little prince i have ever seen

Rest in peace mr. Wilder. You will be missed. Loved this scene so much.
i actually liked that the animals were people
because it's all up to the actor and ur imagination
it's very unique way to go about it
Bob Fosse nailed it too as the snake. He inspired Michael Jackson in this movie. True story
RIP Gene Wilder. You have given us a lot. Grace to you!

Gene Wilder was a wonderful actor and incredible human being.

this movie chokes me up every-time without fail.
Only Wonka himself would be able to make contact with Let Petit Prince

+Ололондий Ололоев he did.. i never realized it untill i finished the book
Because you're human...

bravo Saint-Exupéry for giving us a work of his wisdom. no one else can teach us about matters better than the little prince :)
my favorite book in the whole world. I've never seen a movie version, only read the book many times. The whole idea of taming makes me cry ~
wow...I was too little to understand this movie when my parents took me to see it...but somehow I remember the faces-nice blast from the past =)
it is my favorite book, and i share the author's birthday. I never appreciated the movie until recently. this really made me weep....
KC bon 's. FAVORITE story of the MILLENNIUM!❤️

@aGlowingTeapot I know, right? So are his dreamy eyes.. and his coy smile and even his long elegant nose. :P
I'd forgotton all about this movie. I was a young child last time I saw this
Oh, why did I watch this? I'm in tears, again.
My favorite scene/song from this movie
Can't stop crying.

When I found out about it, this was one of the few things that stuck out in my mind....
+Stephan Mahler I know this is far from one of his more well known roles but I came here first as well.
Really? I have the same sensation! He's a genius and i think he's also the most charming man on earth!
God Save The Prince!
Cutest kid ever!!
Michael Weatherly sent me here via Twitter...thank you Michael. :-)

He is a little boy!
The manliest man tears T^T
That kid can't be real. He must have been grown in a lab specifically to be as adorable as possible.
This mad me cry, too.
Great story. Paramount Pictures did an excellent job on this. The Fox/Gene Wilder was my favorite character next to The Little Prince.
Gene is awesome!
Hahaha, we watched this in French class one year (after reading the book in its original French, of course) and everyone was dreadfully skeeved out by this scene. And yet I still love it...
I think Im going to Cry! :'(
I finally found it!!! I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!
It's the Waco Kid! He had the fastest hands in the world and shot more men than Cecil B DiMille!
The fox can write. He is really clever.
If you close ur eyes and listen with headphones, you can kinda hear Robin Williams.
because this was originally a book and was meant to be read.
HOLY SHIT IS THAT WILLY WANKA
this movie made me cry....and want the lil kids coat...

i that ok if i fell in love with that fox? T.T
Sureeeee. He's the same actor that made the first chocolate factory film, gene wilder. He's fantastic *-*
L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux...
The little prince met Willy Wonka, before the chocolate factory.
I gots the feels
does anybody know where to find this exact scene not all messed up with the words in the wrong place/out of sequence / thank you so much for letting me know. i have looked and see it in a ten minute clip only.
Oh my god, Gene Wilder's face is gorgeous in this movie.
Excuse me while I freak out, fangirl style.
