Also he was the narrator the director and an actor on this movie he deserves all of the awards all of the praise and appreciation movie because this was pure genius
Love the nurse's facial expressions. She smiles at first as if to say "Look, here's your daughter, isn't she adorable?". Then the way she stares after Mr. Wormwood- you half expect her to say "Fine, I'll keep her then!". The shots of other parents cooing over babies on their way out of the car park makes the Wormwoods' reactions even more heartbreaking.
Omg one part that always weirded me out as a kid is the older brother rattling that toy in the car and his vacant expression. It just clicked that since that kid looks flushed and sweaty, its probably likely his parents left him in a hot car for who knows how long???? omg

It was because of this scene that i thought babies are just picked off from the hospital since they didn't show the birthing scene 😅 Our neighbours had a baby infant when i was around 4 or 5 whom i adore so when they were going to move, i asked if i could keep their baby since they can get another one from the hospital 😂

Personally I think the Wormwoods didn’t even actually name their daughter. When asked if they picked out a name Zinnia might made a comment like “why bother” and one of the doctors said “I think she looks like a “Matilda””.
People just don't do that as often as they should. And it's implied that they did sort of want Matilda, she just didn't fit into the rest of the family.

It's funny I just noticed there is a container of cleaner that says poison on it right next to Matilda in the sink. That I totally never noticed until I was a mom lol

I think harry only wanted boys to raise, because to me, it seems they favorited the son and at least tried a little to connect with him. I think they "othered" matilda for being a girl. If she were an intelligent boy, they may have even been a little proud.

ya know Matilda parents my neglect her but it’s the small moments tht really matter and show they can be good people like when she was dirty and her Mom was gonna wash 🧼 her, and her Brother gave her attention when he 1st saw her, and her Father at least came to the window to see his daughter born

Although in the original book her brother didn't participate in giving her grief later on like the parents did. In fact, Roald Dahl seemed to portray Micheal as being just as mild mannered & polite as Matilda.
As seen, Matilda has a doll which wasn’t broken like Dudleys old toys . And at least Matilda wasn’t stuck in a cupboard under the stairs and had her own bedroom and clothes that fit her, unlike Harry wearing Dudley’s clothes which were too big.
