+7over21 As awesome as it would be for the line to be referencing the Thrice lyric, it's surely just referencing the words from the Bible that are repeated throughout the book. This song is so beautiful, though.
Amazing album Dustin, I just want to thank you for the simply beautiful work you have been doing for many years. You've helped many like myself continue to push forward and strive for the truth through thick and thin.
The commentary gives a lot of context to a lot of early Thrice lyrics. I found a lot of comfort in searching for meaning alongside Dustin. I'm glad he feels secure in his beliefs now, even if I don't share them.
"What does it mean to carry the fire? What does it mean when it's drilled into you from childhood that we are all nothing but an accident and all meaning simply an illusion? What does it mean when that darkness in your own heart seems to be reflecting in the horrors that are filling up your news stream? What does it mean when the universe seems, at times, to open above you like some god forsaken maw? What does it mean to carry the fire? Is it even worth asking? I believe it is."
All my life, I've been treading paper in the space between the words. And there implied is that I'm but another body for the birds, carrion, absurd and accidental atoms - beating air, carrying on; unwitting orphan of an unyielding despair.
Zach Goodrich Hey Zach,Dustin said in a podcast that he was influenced a lot by that book. It was when he was interviewed on the Bad Christian podcast.
I've waited pretty much my entire adult life for this album. It isn't exactly what I hoped that it would be, but it's still AMAZING! I absolutely love the commentary on each song. Hopefully this is some sort of special release of the album.
divided123 I was hoping it would be a bit more folky/bluesy like "Please Come Home" was. The fact that this is some of his best solo work can not be ignored, but it's just one of those different strokes for different folks kinda deals.
There's a version without the commentary, but the commentary on this album has helped me tremendously, so I think that I may not have actually been able to do without the commentary
thought nothing could top "It's Not Enough"...so glad I was wrong. seriously, people are missing out. This is remarkable material.
Saw him play this live and the whole crowd cheered when he sang "Hold fast hope." Amazing moment!
I absolutely love the emotion Dustin conveys through his words and his voice. Love it!
Love the self-referencing lyric...."Hold Fast Hope"

I'd bet a nickel it's both. :-)
@@sunnymittal1906 I am pretty sure Bible say "hold fast what is good" but yeah totally biblical
This song is unbelievably good.

This song is magic.

7over21 I only wish more people knew these lyrics - especially those who listened to Thrice who no longer.
NexLevel Dota Amen.
I love those lyrics from "Treading Paper" ... Dustin has written many songs about the struggle of keeping faith, all the way back to "To What End".
Tell me are you free, when the fear falls on you? 2020... I will carry the fire. Because someone has to.
Tell me are you free
In word or thought or deed
this is so beautiful, amazing work
Thanks Dustin, I needed this. Hope you and Shadlie are doing well.
Such a good quote, from such a good book.
Great music. Thanks.
Has anybody ever read The Road by Cormac McArthy? This sounds like it came from that book. Favorite book and now one of my favorite songs.

It did
Love the Hold Fast Hope reference from Vheissu.

Could have done without the commentary.
