- What's up guys, Parker here with a video showing you how you can dynamically set the number of decimal places to show for a value in a table. This is a pretty cool trick that can add some versatility to your report. If you like the tutorial, make sure to subscribe and leave a like!

This is helpful. Any chance of having it to be applied on charts as well?
Hi. I need help on my dynamic formatting. How can I change the value format in my 3 different score cards (Total Sales, Total Profits and Total Costs) by choosing at the slicer? Example if I click Thousands, it will display each of the score cards 17.09K, if I click Millions it will display 1.3M and if I click Unit it will just display the number. Thank you!
Hi, when i drag the measure with format function in column chart i am getting error like can not convert text into number. So please advise how to resolve the error
Same thing how can we do in waterfall chart
Hi Any chance on applying this on charts ?
Thank you for this video, it helped me ,my question is can I rename the column also while clicking the options in slicer
Hmmm I'm not sure about that. Could you provide a bit more info on how you're trying to do it?
@@BIElite I am having three years monthly data with slicer 2017,18 and 19. i want an option in slicer for 17-18% change when ever i click 17 and 18 button and 18-19% change when ever i click 18 and 19. and the column header should rename to 17-18% change and 18-19% Change accordingly.
Hi,i have units, thousands, millions in slicer and if i select units, thousands i want to see with out decimal when i select million in want to see with one decimal in clustered barchart.i have created measure with selected value and format function.but i am getting error text can't convert into number value.the measure working in cards perfectly but it is not working in bar and column charts please advise solution
How do you make it so that one slicer selection displays the values as a currency and the other as a regular number?
Hey Erica, I don't think you can do this while still keeping the field a number. I think you will have to make it text, at which point you will be able to specify currency vs regular number. To make a currency format, it looks something like $##.## while a regular number would be ##.##
How about using MROUND or ROUND dax function instead of format?
+Vishesh Saxena good idea. That definitely works for the purpose of decimal formatting and would be ideal. I also meant to show how this could be used to format currencies and other numeric formats but I forgot
Thanks
Thanks for the comment!
This isn't useful until it can be used in visuals...which it can't due to the conversion to text.
This should be coming to Power BI in the next couple months. I wouldn't say that this isn't useful as this has satisfied clients' requirements in the past.
It infuriates me that FORMAT turns numbers into strings, it should just be cosmetic like when you choose formats from the Modeling ribbon.
That's the whole issue with the format function, you can't use it in other measures.
I totally agree. Often I create 2 measures: I number version and a formatted version. I use the number version in all of my other measures
