  • I’m selling my favorite motorcycle due to having too many in the garage. This 1981 Yamaha XJ 550 Seca was my first project. I’ve had it for about 10 years have perfected the art of cleaning the in-line for carburetors.
The Mikuni carbs are freshly ultrasonic, cleaned and rebuilt, bench-synced. This bike starts and runs great.
    Bike comes with
Vacuum Sync tool to perfect your in-line 4 carburetors as well as a Colortune Tool for setting your air/fuel mixture. These are the two essential tools for this bike.
The gas tank has been freshly deep
cleaned inside and the bike has freshly rebuilt and cleaned petcock, new fuel lines and new fuel filter. Valves freshly treated with Seafoam Frontend Treatment and oil and filter are fresh.
It may look rough, but she’s clean on the inside.
Such an awesome bike. Yamaha’s introduction the YICS system really makes these bikes special. Original airbox is installed, and although you may want to immediately rip it out and throw some cool looking pods on there do yourself a favor and first go to the amazing XJ bikes, forum, and do some reading. You’ll discover that Yamaha designed these bikes so well and with such precision that you be doing yourself a disservice by removing a component engineered with such intention.
Super light bike with plenty of power and responsiveness.
Frame is solid and title is clean.
I have the original handlebars and front fairing with windshield, and kickstand (not installed) also includes some extra parts (carburetor rebuild kits, etc.)
    Mods include:
    Custom handlebars
    Custom exhaust pipes
    Custom digital speedometer
    New seat cover
    The Good:
    Freshly Tuned Up
    Brand new intake boots
    Runs Strong
    New Battery
    Signals and Lights Work
    Shifts Like A Dream
Beautiful Ratty Original Tank (Freshly Cleaned and Rust Treated Inside)
Front and rear drum brakes replaced
    The Other Stuff:
I always planned on fully modifying this bike, including chopping the frame and swapping the front end, but ended up acquiring too many bikes and never got around to the project.
I’ve always kept this bike tuned and and love riding it still, but it’s gotten less attention over the years, so it’s time to let it go and hopefully it can go to someone who wants a perfect custom project.
The original plastics, including the front fairing, one side cover, and the tail cover are included, but do have wear and some damage. Most likely if you were going to be customizing this bike, you would be modifying/painting them yourself. They can certainly be brought back to life.
The emblems on the tank aren’t original and don’t fit perfectly, but I just leave them on there because no one looks closely at them anyway.
The biggest issue with this bike is that the front fork seals leak and are spongy. I had planned on swapping them anyway so I hadn’t gone around to replacing the seals. You can either replace the seals or swap the front end if you are going to do a custom build.
You’re welcome to come have a look on Bainbridge Island. She really is a beautiful bike with a clean title. Open to offers and trades, but I’m not in a hurry to sell.
